Whew! Now then... I am currently on Act IV NM, and I'm trying to do the entire game at /p8 if possible (Single Player). This is also my first character, so I lack wealth.

Concerning my own gear, MF is expendable. What needs to be replaced the most? The boots obviously aren't for questing, but I haven't found a fitting pair for there, considering that my resists generally haven't needed the boots (and the only good ones I get are resist boots). The gloves could use an upgrade too, along with both rings for sure. The rest, I'm not so sure of. What do the rest of you think? Oh, and i do have a plain white monarch that I plan on making a "Spirit" Shield, I just haven't gotten around to it yet, fyi. Been too lazy to go back to normal to use the socketable quest.

Concerning the mercenary, the main thing is the armor. Would it be worth upgrading the Rockfleece, or should I shop around for some nice elite merc armor?

I plan on trying to trade for some improvements, but it would have to be trades for Pgems (built up a good few so far), low runes (i have a lum, but otw only dol or below), or for what normal set/uniques I have (not that many). Not really interested in any more giveaways, btw (got my armor that way, and the pre-rhyme luna...would rather earn the rest of my gear myself)

Thanks in advance for any advice, and I should be around if I need to give any more info.

Re: Gear Questions

With that equipment, going solo on /players8 is going to be a tough slog once you get to hell. Heck, /players8 Hell is no real joy if you have great equipment. However, depending on how patient and cautious you are, you could get by with what you have.

For your upgrades, I'd mostly agree with your assessment... the MF can be one of the first things for you to get rid of, and the items you named were the first ones I'd look to upgrade. Generally, almost any sorceress (including Meteorb) will primarily look for 5 things from their equipment:

1. skills
2. faster cast rate
3. mana
4. life
5. resists

And it's important to balance those five things as best as you're able. For example, what good is +20 skills if your resists suck, meaning you get one-hit killed by many monsters with an elemental attack? +5 skills and being able to survive most attacks is much better.

Here's my specific suggestions:

- well, you've got the strength for Spirit, so you might as well make it. It's a great shield. You can probably stick with Rhyme for the rest of Nightmare (for the MF), but I think you should upgrade before you get to hell.

- Magefists are great gloves, and quite cheap to trade for. If you combine these with the Spirit shield, and your Vipermagi & Spirit sword, you should be able to get the next FCR breakpoint (105%) - which will help your survivability by allowing you to escape monsters quicker, as well as making your attack a little more enjoyable. (And if you have poor FCR rolls on both Spirits and can't get 105 FCR with those alone, look at getting some FCR from one of your rings - or maybe crafting a 'caster' belt... Tal's belt isn't that great)

- Rockfleece isn't that great for a merc armour, so I wouldn't bother to upgrade it. For a similarly low-price, you could craft a 'blood' armour to give him more leech, and if you're lucky (or persistent) you'll get one with resists too. Or, another option that I like "on the cheap", would be Rattlecage (unique Gothic Plate). The CrushingBlow helps against bosses, and although the 40% flee can be annoying, I suspect you'll want the crowd-control.

Speaking of "on the cheap", have a look in the stickies of this forum. MageChick has a guide to "low cost equipment" that lists lots of great options. Try to find equipment for each slot that provides at least 2 of the 5 things I mentioned, use your charms to help fill in as many gaps as you can, and you're on your way.

Re: Gear Questions

Reviving my gear thread to ask a question!

Which is more useful to a Meteorb Sorc, the Peasant Crown or a +3 Fire Skills, 75 life coronet?

Code:
Volcanic Coronet of the Squid
Defense: 40
Durability: 30 of 30
Required Level: 45
Item Version: 1.10+ Expansion
Item Level: 57
Fingerprint: 0x14ec2f01
+75 to Life
+3 to Fire Skills (Sorceress Only)

Peasant Crown
War Hat
Defense: 108
Durability: 12 of 12
Required Strength: 20
Required Level: 28
Item Version: 1.10+ Expansion
Item Level: 59
Fingerprint: 0xa9d1bfd2
+20 to Energy
+20 to Vitality
+100% Enhanced Defense
Replenish Life +10
15% Faster Run/Walk
+1 to All Skill Levels
Considering a similar setup to the one listed above (only real change is ammy and gloves, and that hasn't changed much of anything important)

do you need more mana? if you dont just stay with the coronet. +2skills adds a lot of killing power. But it would be really good if the coronet had 20%FCR and 3 socks (yeah right).

Re: Gear Questions

Heh, I wish! Although the FCR wouldn't help me hit a breakpoint, and I have plenty of mana (go Insight)
But yeah, that's what I was thinking, even though the Peasant Crown looks so good.
