    Games with great music

I was just playing Castlevania 4 for the SNES (it's a pretty clever game, I must say) and I was thinking how much I like the soundtrack. So I thought I'd dedicate a thread to games with great music.

Apart from the one I just mentioned, I have to nominate Magic and Mayhem. That music was half the game. I also always liked the Quest for Glory soundtrack, especially the Gothic rendition in QFG4. That's off the top of my head, I'm sure there are heaps more.

Oh, I loved the Starcraft music, particularly that one Terran campaign track... I forget the name.

Final Fantasy 4, 'natch. Aria de Mezzo Carratere, Setzer's Theme, Kefka's Theme.

Chrono Trigger, good, but not as good as above.

Zelda was pretty good. Goldeneye was as well, but of course they were mostly tracking from the movie so it wasn't entirely original music.

Commodore 64/128 games had awesome music!

I still love some stupid small old dos games with the same kind of music, just for the music

Ultima 7 had a ton of different music tracks, and, impressively (considering it came out in 1992) the music was context-sensitive.

It also savagely satirised Scientology about ten years before it was cool...

And omg, I've just seen something on Wikipedia...

Check out this list of games being mooted as a single compilation disc for the PSP for the start of October by EA:

Syndicate reminds me to nominate UFO: Enemy Unknown (aka XCOM: UFO Defence). That intro rocked my socks.

    Yeah, that was awesome.

The music on Gran Turismo 2 worked really well with the game.
Total Annihilation was also pretty good.

Shadow of the Beast 1 and 2.

The games were almost unplayable, but the music was godly.

    The first Diablo.

Catacombs music for the Win! The town music is annoying, however.

Heroes of Might and Magic 2 and 4. Lovely fairytale'ish music that fit the visual theme perfectly. The 3'rd, while the best of the series, had rather forgettable music and I refuse to touch the bug-riddin beta version Ubisoft has seen fit to release as Heroes of Might and Magic 5.

That would be FF6 in japan, released as 3 on snes. Good music there.

I'd have to say great music would also be found in Streets of Rage games, good stuff there. As for a more recent one (and also a themed game) Guitaroo Man is really nice, though kinda short.

Wow, that was the very first computer game I ever bought. I loved it, still do.

I'm going to say Halo 2: Volume 1. I love that soundtrack, I could play it over and over again.
