Game following the books?

Re: Game following the books?

Hi Firegrip. Welcome :)

Those books (Legacy of Blood, Kingdom of Shadow and the more recent Moon of the Spider) were all commissioned by Blizzard and are considered cannon to Diablo's lore. So it's quite plausible to see their content in the game.

Meanwhile the same author, Richard A. Knaak, wrote three more books as a part of a trilogy known as the Sin War Trilogy (Birthright, Scales of the Serpent, and The Veiled Prophet). These books were not commissioned by Blizzard. But were written in collaboration with Chris Metzen, one of the creators of the Diablo world. Blizzard has never, to my knowledge, made an official comment on these books contents as possible cannon or not to the game lore. But it's accepted by the community at large as such. So it's not likely Blizzard would deny this status by "generating" lore that conflicted with the Sin War trilogy -- It's quite possible that these books too will see part of their content in the game.

Krugar, I believe all the books in the Diablo universe (Demonsbane, Black Road, LEgacy of Blood, Moon of the spider, Kingdom of Shadow and THE Sin War Trilogy) are canon and in line with the game series storyline. Im saying that because I read you mentioned not hearing about whether the Sin War Trilogy was canon or not, but in an interview with the author Knaak, there was a question concerning his 3rd book in the trilogy, and part of his answer included him saying something like 'All books are as Blizzard has declared the official lore to be now'. If i find a link to that interview I will post it here, but I just wanted to correct that!!! It has to be seeing as D3 includes the Triune sect and from the artwork it seems we will be seeing some of the other angels mentioned in the Triolgy. Peace!

Re: Game following the books?

i bought the collect book that had 4 of the books in a it made it throught the first one, i believe "Legacy of Blood". This took place durring begging of the game of diablo, it actually explained why the demons where attacking Lut Golehm and why the arcane sanctuary portal was opened. It even mentioned the fact that the dark wanderer was turning into Diablo and try to release his 2 brothers.

i read the back of the book and to see what each book about, and the third book to me sounded like it would deal with the third game. I have not read it yet but i am going to. here what the third book is about.

THE KINGDOM OF SHADOW: Legend speaks of a long-dead city known as Ureh, thought by many to have been a gateway to the High Heavens. It is said that every two thousand years, Ureh is reborn — and all its lost riches are revealed to those brave enough to seek them out. Now the Vizjerai sorcerer Quov Tsin has come to witness Ureh's rebirth for himself with Kentril Dumon and his band of mercenaries in tow.But what awaits them is like nothing they imagined.

the underline part to me what will that make me think this will explain some story about diablo 3. If any one has read this and want to spoil it for me go ahead please i hate to read and you make thing alot easier for me

Re: Game following the books?

I watched the Q & A chat session with Knaak last week (it was either Blizzard or Bnet sponsored) concerning his WOW books in hopes he would answer some questions regarding the Diablo & Sin War Trilogy series. Unfortunately, he said he was forbidden to comment on any of them :( nor discuss any upcoming projects he was working on in the Diablo series, esp. since the eyes of Blizzard were watching. Darned spies lol

After reading Kingdom of Shadows, the Witch Doctor reminded me of Zayl because of his "magic pouch" and the fact that he throws "skull fireballs" which could be symbolic of Humbart. However, the book does say that Zayl is a necromancer and it's already been confirmed that the Witch Doctor is not a necro. If another character does appear to be very similiar to Tsin with skills that come from book knowledge, then I'll be even more convinced a lot of the D3 storyline was taken from the book, if not a combination of things/skills from all of the books (?the reason why Knaak couldn't take any D questions?). Atanna could have possibly been the girl who appeared in the early D3 pages....hmmm...maybe she'll be Major Quest in D3.

Has anyone else noticed a correlation between Kingdom of Shadows and the new Diablo 3 trailers and artwork or am I just reading too much into this. I've only read The Black Road & Kingdom of Shadows. Waiting to order Moon of the Spider, it's always sold out.

Re: Game following the books?

Sorry Krugar ... u already answered my question...however, since i'm new at this, please forigve my redundant post.

Question: Do you think using any of the skills from the books (the ones that were viable in over coming the monsters/demons) make a difference in actual end-of-game playing results?
