Gambling Legendary Items in Reaper of Souls

Continuing the earlier post, here's some new additional info on Gambling Legendary Items in Reaper of Souls via Blood Shards.

Also one last question, the Legendaries that can be acquired by gambling... are they restricted by difficulty? Or can gambling not even produce a torment level Legendary?

Nevalistis: Okay, bit more info: Torment restricted Legendaries will not be able to be generated by the Blood Shard vendor. Difficulty setting will have no impact on the items generated from the vendor, which should help prevent situations where players start a new, higher difficulty game before spending their shards.

Thanks for the feedback and reports, everyone! This kind of stuff is incredibly useful, and if you continue to experience similar oddities (especially after the next Beta patch), please don't hesitate to let us know! I'll be here to listen and read it all. =)[source]

I get the feeling these sort of player questions go to the CMs, who take them to the devs, who say, "Huh, never thought about that. Well, better think up something for an answer and put it into the game!"

However it came about, I like this solution as it makes gambling a lot more worthwhile, while leaving the highest level gear only to be found, not rolled in town. That said, it puts a higher premium on balance and Nephalem Rift rewards to remain competitive. Currently the best way to get exp, gold, Blood Shards, and find legendary items is by doing bounties, and Shards aren't really very useful now since gambling is pretty lame. Once gambling isn't lame, bounties become even more profitable, far and away above other game activities.

Can has balance, plz?

On the larger issue, how feel you guys about gambling for fun and profit and legendary items? I'm for it since I like a variety of ways to obtain gear, but I can imagine some purist attitude being like, "No buying gear, via AH or vendors! All the best should be found!"

I'm all for greater variety in getting from \'A\' to \'B.\' I think Diablo III could use a healthy dose of that. I personally would like to see vendors and crafting be a more viable option. Gambling doesn't bother me one bit as long as it is an viable and interesting option.

Once, for fun, I played DII by getting all my gear (except what I found on the battlefield) through gambling and was happily surprised ad how feasible it was.

I loved gambling in D2. But, in d2 it was the only use we really had for gold. However, I just enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to trying gambling in ROS. I think gambling should offer highly rare legendaries but, make the odds truly extreme.

I think the best way to fix gambling would be if there are three different kinds of gambling:
1) gamble with gold
2) gamble with gold & blood shards
3) gamble with gold & a currency that can only be aquired in torment

It is gambling after all, so shouldn't there still be a (slim) chance of a torment level legendary? I think so.

that's what makes gambling 'gambling;' the slight chance of a career changing moment from the gamble.

How about having Torment Blood Shards that has a chance for torment legendaries then :S

Though until they add another usage for Blood Shards it seems meaningless anyway.
Currently Blood shards are pretty much just delayed item drops.

Until they figure out a way to stop people exploiting that then they probably won't add them to the Gambling pool. Although to be honest with how rare Gambled Legendaries probably will be I don't think that it would be a huge problem if people would always go to Torment to Gamble.

Technically every form of items players can create are just delayed item drops. :)

Your Torment Blood Shard idea would definitely prevent exploits, although having another currency just for this reason seems a little extreme. I think if they are fine with us being able to Gamble for Torment Legendaries then they should just enable them as well and see what happens. Sure, everyone would Gamble on Torment, but I assume the chance of us getting a Legendary this way will be extremely low anyway, so this wouldn\'t have much of an effect.

Yeah, it isnt a problem that crafting or gambling is a delayed drop. But when it is a delayed drop with no choices in it, what is the point?
In crafting you have the choice of spending your mats on one thing or another. With blood shards you do not - and thus it is exactly the same as just dropping the items in the first place.

Blech, convolution for no gain. What's the point of this extra dumb step? Crafting can serve the same purpose as pure gambling (hell, it already does, which is why it sucks). What are they doing?

I don't have a problem with gambling for Legendaries, so long as it's not too easy to get them that way. It\'s far different from buying from a vendor/AH or trading, since you're still subject to RNG even when you get that lucky gambling result – how many belts would you need to gamble before getting a Witching Hour? how many boots to get the new (awesome!) Ice Climbers? This will definitely give Blood Shards good value and help encourage players to complete bounties/rifts to gain them. I agree that gaining Blood Shards should be balanced across the different rewards, but I also think that gambling costs should slowly increase the more you gamble to help prevent players from hoarding them and getting too many rewards from that too quickly. Maybe a 100-150 (or higher?) final cost?

D2 was the same way. D2 had both crafting (which was gambling) and a gambling vendor. The difference was the crafted items in D2 had some preset mods, while the other mods were random. If you wanted crushing blow on gloves, you crafted them.

I somewhat understand the \"purist\" attitude, but quite honestly I just hope the game is fun. Just plain old fun, with friends, family, random gamers, solo (yet online). I am not closely following all the patches but I definitely look forward to RoS changes or at least some of them. Gambling, however important it may be, hardly qualifies as top priority in my eyes. The core game structure (mainstat, AR, CD, Crit, IAS, dps-centric bias) will probably not be overhauled in 3 months but I think it should be the focus.
That said, I\'ll probably fold like a cheap suit and preorder the CE along with the Book of Tyrael...
