Found a Bonehew...give to mercenary?

Is it worth putting a Hel in this thing to lower the STR req. so my merc can use it? He is level 80 and needs 18 str to use it...which means he will need to be 98 to use it naturally. He will likely never be that high.

It has 2 sockets, so the other one might get an Amn for extra LL. Even a Shael would give 20% more attack speed - given that I find a Vampire Gaze for him, would extra attack speed (Shael) or extra life leech (Amn) give him more life leech over time? It already has 30% IAS and states "Very Fast", so is there an upper limit you'd run into with a Shael?

Andariel's Visage would give him the STR - but it's ladder only and probably more expensive...plus I'd prefer the DR on the Vampire Gaze combined with the Shaftstop.

Depends, do you want your merc to do more damage or leach more? Hel+Amn would give him more leech/time and Hel+Shael would give him damage/time. Shael would get him a one frame faster attack (if you don't have any other IAS jewels in helm/armor).

Don't look at very fast etc. Look at how many frames he will attack with. Don't just give him or yourself a bunch of ias and think it all helps. You have to reach certain breakpoints

They would both give him more leech - more hits means more leech as well. I'm just wondering which would heal him faster.

I could always put a couple amethysts in his gear as well (can you do that with uniques?) to get him there and go for dual Amns or Shaels.

Answer is Hel + Amn (as I stated above).

Hel + Shael

LL = 8% (Vamp Gaze)

Bonehew [0] + 50 IAS = 11 frames

LL/Frames = 0,73


Hel + Amn

LL = 7% (Amn) + 8% (Vamp Gaze) = 15%

Bonehew [0] + 30 IAS = 12 frames

LL/Franes = 1.25

It may be better to put in some Amethysts in his armor to get the STR and go with dual Ams instead. With that much damage, speed, leech, and damage reduction he should definetely stay alive easier.

Its decent weapon, but that prevent monster heal dont work with merc and that bone spear part is useless too, so tiny damage. And with high str req. its been charsi food every time.

Both Insight, Reapers Toll (Kelpie Snare) are better than that and with lower req.

Bonehew:
But to make that viable, I would use tal helmets/gaze and cheap 3socket griswold armor to get 20-50 str. Armor is easy to dump later when merc has more str. And with 2xshael, you with that 6frame jab break point.
(37 ias for 6.5 frame jab or 65ias for 6 frame jab, those are options for speed)

20 ias 7 frame jab
37 ias 6.5
65 ias 6 <- aim here, as its easy to get with that weapon
105ias 5.5 frame jab, its possible to get, but not worth it

Well since PMH doesn't work on a mercenary this thing isn't that useful to me...wonder if I could trade it for a Reaper's Toll.

Bonehew is a common drop. It really doesn't matter if you Hel+Amn it now, there's a big chance that you will find another again. It has a good value if it's Eth because of its high damage. I also don't think that you could trade it for a Reaper's Toll.

I have equipped my Act2 Defensive Merc with Bonehew and it is viable combined with Vampire Gaze and Duriel's Shell. I found them dying more in Travincial and Baal runs due to lack of life leech but when I gave him a COH armor, he became powerful. Later when I got hold of better weapons; Doom, BOTD, Reapers Toll, Infinity, I decided to ditch the Bonehew but I just kept the Eth one.

Another value for Bonehew is to Shael+Shael it and use it for a Fury Druid. I think its a 5 frame attack, kills very fast and shoots those bonespears across the screen. Its a cheap alternative weapon to any Fury Druid.

If a necromancer were to use it, does the bone spear synergize?
