Forum Trading Mule question

I've only started looking at the trade forums, and all of the traders say "I'll send you the mule/mule info/mule trade. What does this mean? How do they trade if it's not on bnet?

Re: Forum Trading Mule question

If it's not on Bnet than this question belongs to the SP forum. I think however you don't get how non-interactive trading goes?

To answer that question: people make a new (open a mule) account on Bnet and ditch the items on a char there. Than they PM the account and password info to the buyer. The buyer can then take the items he bought by accessing the account himself and drop the payment in return.

It's all based on good faith.

Thank you. That was what I was looking for. So you make a completely new account for this mule? Then you delete it I assume?

Yeah, pretty much. Completely new account for sure -- and of course, it would be wise to use a very different password from the one/ones you use on your main account. After that, you can just leave the mule account to expire, or change the password and keep it to use again if/when you next need.

It certainly is a good idea to perm your mule account by leaving it logged in at least two hours within the first two days, regardless of what you plan to do with it afterward.

I never did that and the account still works just fine. I personally create a new character with each trade, generally with the name of the person that I'm trading with. This helps me to remember who I'm dealing with. This way the character can expire all it wants because I've already finished the trade.

Just make sure that you leave the game open for at least 5 minutes before you leave it to get your items. Always test to make sure the game stays open before you drop your items. Nothing sucks more than losing your items during a mule trade and have to cancel the trade.

You're right in that the character doesn't matter, the account itself is what I was talking about -- you'd hate to just create an account, make a character and put stuff on it, and lose it if the buyer took more than 2 days to get the items off the mule, or the seller didn't think to check, since things happen. Perming the account (even if you don't perm the character) gives you 10 days, which is a bit safer.

Unless I misunderstood and you were saying you don't have to perm accounts? I've never tempted fate, and just assumed you had to since that's what the warning says when you make a new account.
