Re: For VISTA users: Your Computer's System Rating

to me. regardless of how good a computer is. if it has vista on it. its rating immediately becomes, fail.fail.

I honestly wouldn't put too much hope into Vista working properly with d3 at all. even now, vista is still unstable, full of bugs, and has issues with pretty much everything. I would go back to XP if I were you. high ratings or not, it may not count for squat. also keep in mind, blizzard has stated, they have absolutely no plans for now or in the future to use DX10. which is what vista is based on. that could also pose an issue.

I don't mean to burst anyone's bubble. i'm just saying that you shouldn't hold your breath. but hey, if it works out, all the power to ya.

I can understand how you feel. I stuck with Windows 2000 as long as I could, and the only inspiration I had to upgrade from XP was hoping it would help Hellgate: London run faster. Ultimately, though, I think it was other factors of my PC slowing the game down and not the OS itself. Still, I have to admit that having used Vista for a little while now, it's not as bad as I thought it might be. I do have a lot of problems with Internet Explorer - but as I haven't truly needed to use it, I haven't spent time troubleshooting them, either. If I had half a brain, I'd be using a Mac or running Linux though, probably. :)

Edit: I do enjoy putting together my own computers, which seems to be less possible with a Mac.

God you are stupid. Vista IS a better os than xp if you got 4 gig ram. There are "no" bugs, sure you can't run 16 bit program but who cares. And just incase you didn't get it vista have NO PROBLEM WHAT SO EVER RUNNING IN DX9. idiot

There are even test which you can see vista starting faster from same type of computer. Sure if we have your old p4 with 512 ram vista runs slow. So instead of you trying to trashtalk vista which is 3x xp GO buy a new computer. And after that please learn something about computer.

So tired of people thinking xp is best os ever.

meh the vista rating is not really a great benchmark, but mine is 5.9
Here are my 3D Mark Vantage and 3D Mark 06 scores, they are much better benchmarking tools.

My rig:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 @ 3.4GHz linked/sync
4GB Corsair XMS2 800MHz 4-4-4-12-2T
EVGA 750i FTW mobo
EVGA gtx 260 core 216 SC 55nm & BFG gtx 260 OCX Maxcore 65nm in SLI
Vista home premium 64-bit & XP pro 32-bit dual boot

I've got a Rating of 3.6, but only cuz of the video card. Most of the scores ranged from 4.6 to 5.4. Data tranfer was bad, as was video.. but meh, it's a spare machine.. what can I say.

Windows 7 RC
2.2Ghz Pentium Dual Core
2GB DDR2 RAM.
Crappy IDE HDD and CDROM.
ATI Xpress 1200 video <<Piece of Junk

Re: For VISTA users: Your Computer's System Rating

the rating is only as strong as your lowest score, so most people with desktops will be limited by their hard drive, unless they have a raid setup or something.

my score is 5.6 because i have just a regular 16mb cache sata drive. everything else is 6.0-6.9.

this is windows 7 by the way.

Yeah, my "gaming graphics" and "data transfer" is what killed my score. Running PATA drives sucks.

Is it bad if calculations per second is the slowest thing on here? :p

I would say, this one is better than I thought it would be, 5.3-5.9. Computer(build) is only about 1 year old, so I'm happy.

Re: For VISTA users: Your Computer's System Rating

i thought my video card would be the lowest score. it's only a radeon x1900xt but gets a 6.0. still plays games like team fortress 2 and savage 2 at high settings and frame rates, though.

4890 is next on the list.
