Fishymancer attributes

I am having trouble giving out points to my fishymancer or summoner necro..
Mana, health, strength, and dex. They all seem good.

But what should I focus on. A guide tells me to not focus any points into mana, but that seems hard when I want to corpse explosion for example. help me.

First of all, put zero points in energy. Use a few mana pots to raise your army. If you want more mana use gear like Gloom's Trap, Silkweave and Frostburn (x% increase to maximum mana). Or equip your merc with Insight if you want to use CE a lot.

Second, put only enough points in strength to wear your equipment. If you know this beforehand you can plan exactly (take highest-requirement item and take into account strength bonuses you get from other items). Otherwise plan for around 100 max;that allows you to wear most of the stuff that's useful for Fishymancers.

Third, you want to choose between max block (invest in dex) or vita (leave dex at base, invest all in vita). In PvM I personally prefer Vita, so I would leave Dex at base level. A Fishymancer is not really a PvP character, but you can go for max block even in PvM. Do this only if you use a high-blocking shield (Homunculus). In this case simply invest enough points in dex to keep your block rate at 75%.

Finally, put all remaining points in vitality.

My typical setup:
stength: 65 - 100
dex: base
vita: all (up to 350)
energy: base

For PvM, it's fine to put a few points into energy, just don't go overboard with it. But there are other ways to help with mana problems:
-Equipment with +mana or +energy.
-Use more mana potions.
-+ Mana Per Kill (Note: This only applies to your kills. Summons won't help with this.)
-"Insight" runeword polearm on an Act 2 mercenary, for the Meditation aura.

As for what to "focus" on, it's the same for 99% of builds- Vitality.
-Strength: Enough for gear. I usually go for a base of 110 or so. Lots of people would say that's a lot, but I like the added flexibility in gear choices.
-Dexterity: Enough for gear, or enough for max block. For PvM, blocking isn't really necessary, especially for summoners. And unless there's a specific thing you want to equip, you don't need any dexterity at all on a summoner.
-Vitality: As much as possible.
-Energy: No or very little investment.

Yeah, vit is usually better than block in PvM, as most of the things that will get past your skelly army will be elemental attacks, where you are going to want more life to handle it.

As for CE, you won't actually need except for a few sticky situations or maybe in throne of destruction where you can blow up a minion's body to make it quicker. 1 super mana pot=spam CE for a long time anyway.
