First sorc, need advice

Well, I've been leveling my first sorc and I need some advice. I just keep dieing and its getting frustrating.

15 saved points, none of my +stat quests done.

20 frozen orb
17 cold mastery
5 fire master
10 fire ball
15 meteor
3 warmth
1 tele
1 static field
prereqs

Helm: tal helm
Chest: p topazed Tal armor
Shield: Ryhmed luna
Belt: tal belt
Boots: 35% war travs
Weapon: Rare +2 skill, 26% light res, 37 fire res wand
Gloves: Magefist
Ammy: Need suggestion!
And a nagel ring and manald heal ring.

I'm using a act 2 deifance merc using insight, tal mask, and black hades with a 15ias jewel in it.

I've only got 10 p gems and a pesant crown to trade for new gear so keep this in mind

What should I put my stat points into? dex or more vitality? Is it too late to go for the max block route? What should be my next gear buys? I need some cheap suggestions.

What level are you, and what act are you playing?

Your gear isn't great, but it's not horrible either, so my guess is:
1) You're level is too low for where you are playing. And/or...
2) It's your playstyle. Sorcs are fragile, and it takes a while for some people to adjust to playing them... my first characters were barbarians, so I found my first sorcs getting too too close to the heat of battle, because I was playing them like I did my barbs. Are you overaggressive? Not using teleport enough to keep your distance from monsters? ... Try backing off a little bit and using teleport to force your merc to be a buffer between you and monsters.


By the look of your stat & skill points, it's already too late for max-block. You need 180+ in dex to get max-block, so unless you're willing to settle for ~50% block even with the best blocking shields, you shouldn't bother.


Equipment upgrades: You might as well aim for the full Tal's set (orb and amulet needed still). That'll help your skills, resists, life, etc. After that, if you can get enough strength for a Spirit shield, it's a very good option too. Finally you might want to upgrade your rings (rares with mana/resists/life/FCR/etc... getting all of those in one ring will be expensive, but you should be able to get 2 or 3 pretty cheap).

Right now your trade-resources seem a little low to be getting much for upgrades. Tal's Orb and/or Spirit would probably be first, and near to your price range, but you'll probably have to save up some more trade fodder to land Tal's amulet (I suspect - I don't trade on BNet).
