First PvP Character

First PvP Character

I've never really been much of a pvp person, prefer pvm mostly. I have recently become bored with the game, and it's been suggeested that I try PvP instead. I have decided I would try a sorceress build, but I'm not sure which type would be better; lightning or fire, or perhaps a hybrid? Since this is literally my first pvp character, I was wondering what everyone thought would be the best to use as a starter. I have no idea where to begin, so any tips on build and gear would be great. Thanks.

fire sorc has greater range and can use meteor as supposrt skill when dueling, you can also do invisible fire balls .light has less range but if im not wrong does more dmg.
Both can be negated easily in bm duels. Hybrid sorc are not really eficient in pvp. If you like hammerdins , make one , they are best overall pvp char to play. they can stack resistances, have unblockable (exception claw block) dmg, and can reach pretty high life.

I have an hdin that I like well enough. He's a great overall pvm character, but I don't think he would be very good for pvp. I think that might be because if his fcr. It's fine how it is for pvm, but I think he would need alot more if I were to play him as pvp. I chose sorceress as my first pvp character because I prefer them over hdins, and they are easier for me to use.

Same exact thing with me. My pvp characters must have at least one of the last sorceress breakpoints for teleport, or no teleport at all (shifters).

Personally, I would go with a fire sorceress with es. In the sorceress forums there was a guide on the 200 fcr es pvp sorceress. Its a good starting character (if you have the funds for it), and works well. The low fcr breakpoints take a while getting used to on a light sorc, and I would suggest something where you have the same amount of fcr for all attacks. Maybe build a fire sorceress, and if you like it, switch to lightning (which is IMO stonger, but takes longer getting used to).

I actually prefer to use light sorc for pvm, but wasn't sure if fire might be a better option for pvp.

I'd stick with what your used to. They both fare very well in pvp. If you have gotten used to the breakpoints and all that, I'd say go with lightning, they're a blast!

Yes, why not but I am not sure about them being a blast - they might be but only in the right hands (not trying to discourage you though  ).

IMO the dmg on fire sorcs is more consistent which makes them harder to play against. Blast dmg on fireball also helps vs minion stackers.

It is true that any element can be nullified with abs and stack but tgod is all it takes to defeat most light based casters and tgod is not frowned upon at all.

The reason I like lightning sorcs over fireball sorcs are that their attacks seem to go a lot faster. Although you cast less, the speed they go after released is much greater than a firebolt's. However, I will admit that a fireball sorc with equal gear and skill is probably > a lightning sorc with equal skill in both SvS as well as in SvAll.

Its just a personal preference. I like the way lightning goes. I made a strong fire sorceress before, but I just didn't consider it as fun. If you want to feel what its like to dominate everybody in a pub, however, then I would go with fireball.

Thanks for the input everyone. I've decided on a fire sorceress. Now I just have to finish reading that guide to see if it says anything about any 'special' gear I would need.

I would build a vita/max block/50%dr/86%fhr build to start with. For pubs it's still probably my favorite sorc.

Lynn, you are rich, correct?

es/block/fb works the best if you can support the charms.

if not rich, then I suggest

es/fb 200% sorc. dont go block.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'rich' there Dennis.

Yeah, I know it's been two months since I started this character, and I'm only just now trying to decide on final gear for her. I'm trying to decide which belt and amulet would be better for her, and I have a couple of helms to choose from as well. Oh, and what would be the minimum FCR breakpoint I should try to reach for her? I've read the guide in the Sorceress Forum, but I didn't see it...unless I'm just blind. :azn:

I think the FCR breakpoint would be the deciding factor on which gear I would use:

Belt: Either Arach or T-gods ~ would the T-god be better for the Light absorb and strength, or should I stay with Arach for the 20fcr and +1skill point?

Helm: Shako (Faceted)
(Rare Tiara) +2Sorc/20fcr/5ms/23str
(Rare Circlet) +2Sorc/20fcr/7ls/18a-res/4mana after kill
(Rare Circlet) +2Sorc/20fcr/5maxdmg/39life/10cr/10lr/43fr/10pr

Amulet: Mara, +3Fire/10fcr, or Rising Sun. Again it would depend on FCR breakpoint I think. The Rising Sun has Fire absorb and the Mara offers resistance and attribute points.

I was also just thinking about my rings. Currently I'm using soj and bk for the mana and life. Would it be better to use FCR rings instead?

With my weapon (Eschuta), gloves (magefist), and shield (35% Spirit) my FCR is at 95. Someone once mentioned using a Hoto over an Eschuta, but I'm not sure why it would be better, since they have the same FCR on them (unless they were talking about my lightning sorceress, I don't remember now. :azn:).

I say

Shako-Great +skills,Life,Mana, and can be faceted
Arach-Sexi Fcr,+skill
+3Fire/10fcr-Maras is good but u get more damage and Fcr using this Sexi Amulet

Eschuta is not that great. I prefer Hoto for the resists and mana regeneration. The damage increase from Eschuta is not very much. 105 Fcr is the breakpoint you need to hit.

If you go es you don't need to worry about resistances. I also prefer using a Wizspike simply for argument.

Hey Lynn!

I'd really recommend 200fcr for PvP. It may limit your choice a bit but it's totally worth it in my opinion.

Circlet: I'd use the rare tiara 2sorc/20fcr/5ms/23str one and socket it with Jah or a 5/5 fire facet. (you need loads of str for spirit)

Amulet: Depending on your weapon your 3/10 is awesome else you have to look for one with 15 fcr

Weapon: I'd prefer Hoto over Eschutas because of the ressis. Though the look of Eschutas is nicer on sorc. Wizardspike or suicide branch are also nice choices

Armor: Skin of the Vipermagi. 1skill/30fcr/35ressis what do you want more.

Shield: 35 fcr Spirit Monarch

Gloves: Magefists ofc

Rings: 2* 10fcr/str rings. Additional stats would be life/mana/res

Belt: Arachnids

Boots: Sandstorm. strength, vitality, fhr and an nice poison resists

Charms fire skillers plain/life/fhr/dex and scs with life, fhr, ressis whatever you lack. Have fun trying things out and good luck with your decision!

I wouldn't be able to reach the 200fcr breakpoint:

Helm: 20fcr
Armor: 30fcr
Belt: 10fcr
Rings: 20fcr
Amulet: 10fcr
Wep: 40fcr
Shield: 35fcr
Gloves: 20fcr

Total: 185fcr. Is there a breakpoint under 200, but above the 105 I should aim for instead? If not, then it looks like I would be using:

Helm: Rare +2Sorc/20fcr/23str (with a fire facet)
Armor: CoH
Belt: Arach
Rings: Soj/bk
Amulet: +3fire/10fcr
Wep: Eschuta or Hoto (haven't decided)
Shield: 35% Spirit Monarch
Gloves: Magefist
Boots: Eth Treks

It seems I would have more damage this way too, but I've heard that damage isn't everything when it comes to pvp and that speed would be the deciding factor. Which, from what I understand, is why people try to reach the 200fcr breakpoint, correct?

I wouldn't be able to reach the 200fcr breakpoint:

Helm: 20fcr
Armor: 30fcr

Shield: 35fcr

Actually arachnid has 20 fcr. And that's why I said amu depends on your weapon. You have to use wizardspike/branch and 10 fcr amu or hoto/eschutas and 15fcr amu
