    First Matriarch: Ember

    Matriarch Ember: The Fire/Cold Sorceress

After battling the forces of evil for over a week, I've finally become a Matriarch! JOY! It took a very, very long time to defeat Baal and his minions - Surprisingly, I wasn't even underleveled despite the fact that the only grinding I did was against Pindleskin at the end of Normal, and obligatory boss runs. I think it was my build and my gear - The Orb-It-Aller seems to need the full Tal Rasha's set to do more damage than a run of the mill Meteorber, and the fact that I had pretty poor equipment meant that I pretty much Shift+1 healed my merc more than I shot Frozen Orbs (OK, maybe that's an exaggeration, but still..)

Ember started out as a pure blizz sorc and eventually respecced to Frozen Orb/Fire Ball to deal with immunes in Hell. I wish I'd gone with Frozen Orb the whole time - Man, it's fun :)

I played her entirely untwinked, although I did use some equipment I traded for to make my Mercenary's Fortitude, and a Spirit runeword that I never did gain enough Strength to equip...)

At the end of the long road, I've learned a few things.

    1. Diablo 2 is the most addicting game EVAR.
    2. I enjoy magic finding much more than actually playing the game. Seeing something like this drop is way more fun and exciting to me than trying to survive the Chaos Sanctuary on /players 1.
    3. Teleport is the best skill. I don't think I can play another class until I get an Enigma :|

Well, I'm pretty damn burnt out on Diablo for now - I need to get some sleep!

Special thanks to everyone who's posted advice in my threads and to Socialism for his build which I copied as closely as I could.

    Here's Ember!

    Stats:

    Level: 83
    Life: 813
    Mana: 533
    Strength: 97

    Skills:

    19 Fire Bolt
    20 Fire Ball
    15 Ice Bolt
    20 Frozen Orb
    12 Cold Mastery

1 Point: Warmth, Fire Mastery, Telekinesis, Teleport, Static Field, Frozen Armor, Shiver Armor, Prerequisites.

    Equipment:

    Helm: Tal Rasha's Horadric Crest
Armor: Skin of the Vipermagi (Upgraded)
    Weapon 1: Spectral Shard
    Shield 1: Rhyme
Weapon 2: The Blade of Ali Baba
    Shield 2: Rhyme
    Belt: Trang-Oul's Girth
    Gloves: Frostburn

    Helm: Rockstopper

    Inventory:

Stuffed to the brim with resistance charms - I had room for one 2x3 item and the space inside my Horadric Cube :|

    So, what's next?

I plan on hunting down the essences so I can respec to something more friendly toward the gear I have available.
I'll also keep running Mephisto for some gear - It never gets old, as repetitive as it is.

I want to make a character for each class - I've only ever played Sorc, Paladin, and Necro into Hell, and the latter two have never completed it...

    Bonemancer
    IK Barb
    Frost Zealot
    Trapassin
    Shapeshifting Druid
    Strafezon

Which should I make first? And feel free to post your build ;D

    Thanks for reading!

Disagree. I seriously doubt it is worth it, even in Hell.

The road to Enigma is a long one. Totally deserve it, though. Forget about CoH and go straight for it. Goes LK!

    How did it worked?

That's weird. Why don't you run for items for the build you already have? Is a nice one.

Unless you already have a high damaging weapon, I'd go for the trapsin. Take a look at my second matriarch Roazranne.

Rockstopper...uh...wasn't that great. My merc pretty much died after five seconds against a mob, so I spent a ton of time teleporting and shooting FOs. The merc barely fought anything except for some of the magic immunes and lister - he was more of a distraction in case i blindly teleported into a mob.

As for this build, I'm kind of disappointed in fireball. sure it's only supposed to be used against cold immunes, but even then...I'm not sure. I'm thinking of going pure blizzard since I love running meph lol.

the builds I want to do next are tied between Assassin and Amazon since I've never played them - I've got a level 16 barb but I want to get the IK before I invest too much into him.

    Congratualtions on your first matriarch!

I recently completed a Guardian in every class. I found the traps assassin to be really powerful and not gear dependent (and very fun!); definitely a recommended build from me.

I think I'm going to start a Trapsin in Hardcore - as if I need more of a challenge :p

IK...Looks so fun. Too bad the armor is so hard to find.

This. When I started playing more "seriously" and mfing, my thoughts were exactly the same. But then I discovered the power of melee builds (forti+botd = gg). I still do runs a lot (1.07 LK mostly right now), but I find playing the game more fun. When I made my Forti I patted 3 or 4 chars with it. I am in the middle of patting my first GPA ebotd wielding char (Werebear respec'd into Werewolf).
It takes some much more time to find something usefull (~1000 LK 1.07 rack runs to get an unique) that every good find is celebrated by new Pats/Mats.

    Congrats

I'd vote for the Boner since casters aren't gear dependent and a white wand and rhyme shield are easily attainable end gameworthy gear. Also find them more fun than trapsins which are the other gear independent char on your list.

Meh, I told you to use rockstopper to run Meph because of the %DR and the fact that he can't be leeched. To general questing, your Tal Rasha's should be better until you get your hands on a Vamp Gaze. Also, Delirium runeword does wonders to Merc's survivabilty vs mobs.

    Re: First Matriarch: Ember

Congrats! Incidentally, my first was an FO/FB sorc as well. Yes, Orb is fun as hell. By the way, I found her to be an excellent LK runner (with a few minor alterations - basically load up on FCR gear to hit the 105% breakpoint for crazy monkey teleport (and Fireball gets pretty destructive at high FCR as well...); also, get a Frozen Armor orb for your switch and throw it in town to start the run, you'll know why when it happens :) ), so if you're serious about getting an Enigma you already have a character suited for the grind.

edit: Sorry, I tend to kind of glaze over the mechanical part of the writeup, nvm about that FA orb. :)
Specifically, you could hit 105 FCR inexpensively by switching out the Frostburns for Magefist and finding another 5 somewhere...Tal's belt would do it without affecting your resistances.
