    Firewall Sorc

So, i was wondering. Why dont i see many firewall based builds?

I played back in the day and im just starting to get back into D2 (~5 years ago)
and i had a firewall sorc that was freaking amazing. Honestly, it only got to like 65, and never got to hell, but it did such amazing damage.

I am really all about not going cookie cutter as i try to be somewhat origional. So whats the problem with Firewall Sorcs?

they are hard to aim, u know? that is why very few people use it.

U can make a Orb/FW sorc, it will be effective and wont face that imunities problemes that single tree sorcs usually have.

yea i know what you mean, but i kinda dug it when i played one. It made it so you had to use a tiny bit of thought when playing, instead of just spamming orb.

I kinda straight dont wanna go orb, because so manny people do it . . maybe Chain lightning/fire wall. . .

It takes practice to aim fire wall that's all. Here are some tips. Remember, if you aim the fire wall above or below your sorc, it will run east-west. If you aim the firewall to the left or right of your sorc, it will run north-south. You can even aim it at a slight angle and the fire wall will also be at a slight angle. Now you can also use your merc and the telelport spell to help you get melee monsters. This is a trick I learned from sirpoopsalot. Teleport to one place and don't move. Your merc will be right next to you but will move towards the monsters. Many of the melee monsters will charge towards your merc. Soon they are surrounding him. At that point, cast fire wall on them. This is very effective because they will be busy fighting your merc and forget that you are burning them alive. You can also cast your fire wall and walk or run in it so that a monster will follow you in. You'll probably need to do this a few times since the duration of the spell is short. This I would use as a last resort since it is time consuming. This trick has worked on the Ancients and I've used it to help me Mat one or more of my sorcs.

    1. theyre hard to aim

However, if u manage to get pro with it, u'll be cookie-cutting even when playing naked. FW is THE other low-points-spent strong spell, next to frozen orb(full screen slowed=gg). If you're goin FW, I recommend Act2 NM def merc for holy freeze. As for the rest of ur skill points, I'd probably dump them into nova+lite mastery. Monsters run towards ur merc and surround him, ur merc slows them, u throw ur wall at them, tele in and nova the tightly packed group. Cold, fire and lightning all at once, lol.

Thanks for the replies, all good info.

I forgot to mention i am going to be playing with a friend, and he is playing a Bone Necro, i figured he has to go bonewall+cage for the synergies anyhow, why not use them to lay down firewall?

So really the only questions i have now are, should i go nova or Chain lightning.

And, how should i spend my points leveling up? Save up for firewall then pump it? Or go lightning first etc?

    Re: Firewall Sorc

CL will be too weak without enough synergies, so I'd CB with synergies. Charged bolt is a great boss killer, and it only has lightning as synergy. With something like this:

pre reqs and 1 pt wonders
    20FW
    10FM
    20CB
    20Lightning
    10LM

rest into FM or LM, depending which one u wanna boost. Playing will be simple. FW first, then spam CB for the duration. finish off with lightning.

Firewall IS NOT hard to aim... at least for PvM.

    Idiot's Guide to Aiming Firewall:
    1) Get a merc that can tank
    2) Get near near the monster you want to attack then teleport slightly away from the monster (to create space between you and the monster)
    3) Stand still (the merc and monster will charge each other)
    4) Place the firewall where the monster and merc "collide"
    5) Monster stands in firewall while merc tanks/attacks monster
    6) Monster dies. Quickly.

    Simple, eh?

To me, hitting with a firewall is just as easy (or easier) as hitting the 'sweet spot' with a Frozen Orb.

Charged Lightning? Does it really work out that well? It seems pretty damn weak.

I was thinking of a build like this

    20FW
    20FM
    20Nova
    20LM
9 - Prereques and utility spells (teleport etc)

Then i figured i can just pump Energy shield with the remaining points . . .

Thoughts? I am kinda hesistant to go Charged lightning

Nova is good on lower settings and lower difficulty levels only. Charged Bolt is more powerful if you put 20 points in the synergy lightning and 20 points in mastery. The damage per bolt may seem small but remember, you will be casting it over and over with several bolts per cast. The combined effect can do much damage.

Ahhh was it for freezing the target in place to hit with your FW? That seems like a solid idea.

    holy crap.

Is there a website somewhere that lists all the potential runeword combonations and their effect? As well as which runewords combine to make which runewords (in the cube)

The gear aspect of this game is daunting, It seems like every buidl etc people list what gear to get etc I had a summon necro i took to 75 that wasin hell but i still had 90% garbage gear, i think a few peaces where still from normal mode.

    Go to items - runewords

Oh and you dont need cube to make runewords, just put the correct runes(in the correct order) to an item with correct amount of sockets.

A small correction. Runewords cannot be made in Magic, Rare, Set or Unique quality items - only in "plain" ones.

    Re: Firewall Sorc

How about glacial spike? You make a firewall, the enemy moves into it, and you freeze it so it can't get out?
And, since firewall seems to be strong enough, just hard to aim, could equipping a pride be an option, so you get more firewalls?
