Fire Trap sin - help please

I'm thinking of building a Fire Traps sin, because I have a love for fire builds, and I also want to try out traps, so I'm deciding to hit two birds with one stone. My proposed build is:

20 Wake of Fire
20 Wake of Inferno
20 Fire Blast
20 Shadow Warrior
Mind Blast, Weapon Block, BoS/Fade (??), Cloak of Shadows

I have quite a few questions:
- What should I round out the rest of the skills with? I was thinking of a melee hybrid.
- Are Fire Traps awesome solo-leveling (but also twinked)?
- Wake of Fire or Inferno, which is better?
- BoS or Fade?

Original post: Are Shadow Warrior (or Masters) move's level determined by your move's level? Or are they independent?

Shadows
Shadows are the faithful companions and fighting decoys of the Assassins. They have minds of their own (AI), are able to spawn equipment, use skills, and have a number of nice defensive characteristics as well. Only one (total) may be cast at a time, and they do not have access to the benefits of Claw Mastery, Weapon Block, or the ability to cast a additional Shadow. Both cast their own spell levels at the level of (shadow)/3 + (yours)/2 + (shadow equipment). This also applies to synergies, which do not seem to be capped by the normal 20 available to players. Equipment bonuses and Fade are on top of the general attributes, which means they recieve any added MF, +skills, and resists. Final MF is yours + shadow equipment.
If you have a slvl 25 SM, a slvl 20 Phoenix Strike:

Shadow's PS level = 25/3 + 20/2 + shadow equip
= 8.33 + 10 + shadow equip
= 8 + 10 + shadow equip
= 18 + shadow equip

Ohhh, thank you for your help :)

Now its time to edit first post and make this into a WHAT SHOULD I BUILD thread.

I thought some hacker attacked this thread when you changed the title.

Apparently, WoI is bugged (like Arctic Blast, and Inferno), to give 1/3 to 1/2 damage of the listed damage. It also has a shorter range than what you see on screen.

Both your sin and her shadow are limited to 5 traps at any one time in the game. If you use SW, she may (and could) override your traps with her own, and vice versa.

1. Kicker (DT), DS, fire trapper?

2. Yes, until you meet FIs.

3. I'm guessing WoF, since WoI is bugged.

4. Both. Fade when you meet elemental attackers like Gloams, BoS when you are trap laying or just running around.

I'd keep most of the other skills at 1 hard point (unless there is a need to pump them), e.g. CoS, WB, MB, etc. all will do very well at 1 hard point.

EDIT:
From the FAQ
Q: Why is my WoI barely hitting anything?

A: It's been discovered that the actual missile that causes the damage of WoI is extremely thin, which makes it virtually useless on moving targets. WoI can still be quite useful if you can manage to get an enemy to stay still(eg. via MB/CoS/SM/Merc).

WoI doesn't actually have a damage bug. Its problems are it doesn't track or hit well, or fire very quickly; and its AI is completely borked at detecting targets in its range.

So same difference to most people, really. It does actually kill things pretty well in the right circumstances, but you have to put a lot of work into producing those circumstances.

Where it really suffers is in comparison to the Assassin ooburcheese skill, LS, which both causes a lot of damage and is super easy to use.

Yeah, I did come across a couple of conflicting posts in the past, but I think the 'It does have a damage bug' has been around longer than the 'It doesn't have a damage bug'.

Thanks once again for the clarification, BeB. I'll rule WoI out of my 'bug list'. So it's just Arctic Blast and Inferno which are damage bugged (and the Inferno from those Balrog-types, or so I've read).

Just Inferno and Arctic Blast, and it's 50%. The monster inferno-like attacks are actually different missiles, oddly enough--which explains why they seem to hurt.

I'm one of the ones originally responsible for the misinformation by the way, but the issue was straightened out long ago by teh sm4rt people. Look for posts by TheMadOnion--perhaps here, but definitely at the AB--if you're interested in the tests.

Wake of Fire is the skill of choice, then, leaving Wake of Inferno as a synergy.

Olaul is level 7 (haven't leveled much, as you can tell), and has all the prerequisites.

I'd keep my fingers crossed on Blizz doing something next patch. I had a dream about fire traps getting cooler just last night, but meh, I don't think it'll happen. It was a lightning-fire railgun (think of like a lightning bolt with a red outline) that would have instant travel time. Fun times.

Hahaha, Diablo II dreams...I've had some, I think.

I hope they make a new patch to make skills better (Psychic Hammer should get synergies, at least it'll be mildly effective).

Anyways, I think I'll just build this as a pure Fire Trapper, even though I'm a hybrid type of guy myself. I'll see where it takes me.
