Fire Sorceress; maybe a mistake....

I built a Sorceress and I think I may have made a mistake in the build. I spent 80 points all in the Fire Tree. Is there any area in Hell I can hang out in? I can't seem to go against Mephisto or Baal on my own with this character since the monsters seem to be immune to fire.

Was thinking maybe I should be going after some Act Boss in the cold areas or an Act Boss lower in the quests down to Act I or Act II. Are these areas better suited for an all Fire Sorceress?

I am working on the Cold tree now, but it is going to take me a while to get that up to any level past 5 if I am lucky.

First time making a Sorceress, made a mistake, will learn from this. :)

I love my all fire sorc. Once you understand you can't even scratch a fire immune monster, you just play differently. You party more, make friends, build up a good merc. Making a last ditch effore to become a meteorb dual tree whatever is a really bad idea. If that is the build you want then I suggest you start over and use one of the great guides on this forun.

I just finished making all three single tree sorcs. It was great fun. I have always buile dual tree sorcs in the past. But nothing serves up damage like a single tree sorc.

Actually I think fire was my favorite of the three. I would baal run in a public game. After Lister everyone would jump to the next game leaving me alone with baal. And trust me a fully synergized fire sorc can make very short work of him. Found a lot of great stuff. I used Tals set- perf topaz'd the helm and armor and Ist'd the 2/2/2 orb.

good luck,

Funny you should mention that. The Sorceress I built was the first one where I played a character and my wife had another and my brother built a different one. All 3 of us had different characters, and all 3 of us went through the game together at the same time via multiplayer game.

We all 3 noticed that while playing together, we were a great team. But as a solo player with each of our characters, they do not do very well.

I kind of thought so too. When you are already 80 something, there is no real room for growth. Next time I build a character I will try to review the many builds instead of trying to 'wing it'.

Pure Fire Sorc is certainly no mistake. She is the fastest Andariel runner you can ever have, since Andariel has negative fire resistances. Also in Hell you can run Mausoleum in Act 1, entrance is one of the tombs where Blood Raven resides.

Concentrate on killing bosses. Forget about the monsters around Mephisto that are fire immune and simply just kill him either close up or with the "moat trick" (read stickied thread on top of forum about that)

I have been working on a project to make all the single skill tree builds thus far I have completed 4 to Hell act 1 of them my fire tree sorc was the fastest. It is no mistake to use all skill point in fire skills they are deadly and gain huge damage. A simple holy freeze merc with a staff containing +1-whatever static can allow you to manage through act 1 hell with a fire tree only sorc. A bit more planning can allow you through the entirety of Hell but it will be a slow process.

Look for some "one point wonder" skills for the extra damage static is one of them maybe FO could be one with your +skills. With +FO on an orb you may be able to beat your way through with your skills in fire only.

I don't like running Andariel with my all-fire sorc, since she is usually accompanied by a large number of Dark Ones, who are all fire immune and kill me before I can kill Andy. :(

Running Mephisto is a great idea (teleport to Durance lvl 3, no fire immunes there), and areas like the Crystalline Passage are usually free of FI monsters. (AFAIK, at least)

the +1 FO orb is a great idea. Beter than just sitting there in Hell feeding your merc pots.

I am going to give it a try. It would be nice to have a +1 FO and maybe + cold mastery ORB. Something to look for as I Lvl in NM baal runs (currently building an all lightning sorc) Its too bad lower resist charges don't break immunes.

cracked sash - if its not to late consider a point in glacial spike or ice blast.

While it will not damage I think it will be better than a weak orb since it would hold the non cold immunes still for ur merc to easily dispatch.

Im not sure of this but i have a decent meteorb and decided to see how she went with using g'spike (only 1pt in it) instead of her nice orb and static only and she was owning pretty much (merc was obviously doing the damage but its effective to static em down and hold em still.

I was thinking of making a fire sorc with static/tele/tk/cold armor/g'spike in the other trees since there effective 1pt wonders i think?

CI would be handled by the fire skill. Even a crafted item with 19% ctc frostnova would preform the freezing function. With + all sorc skills a low level orb can be effective. +1 orb could be a slvl 10 with most sorc builds so it could be usable but still weak, glacier spike will not freeze for any noticable duration. Remember freeze durations are cut to 1/4 in hell, so even glacier spike freeze duration is negiliable.

As for your meteorbtress how did the synergies effect the +1 glacier spike? and the cold mastery?

she breaks the 65 fcr so spamming the glacial spikes holds pretty much anything non cold imune perfectly still.

An example is lister and co just before baal - a nice spam spread can hold em all perfectly frozen.

It doesnt do alot of damage but for a 1 point wonder its definatly good.

I only really use it when there fire immune between orbs if there also li or ive static'd em down to the bottom......

I think it would be better for 1pt invested than orb if you have a good merc....... but ive not really tried a low orb (mines 20 with 20ish also in cm)

As for synergies - ive 1pt in all pre reqs to orb and its at 20. CM is 20 after +skills. The listed time in hell is 2.9 secs freeze. The bottom line is it holds longer than it takes for the next gspike to arrive and keep them perfectly still and the merc makes very light work of sitting ducks.....

im only making a suggestion as ive not really experimented enough with this.

As a pure fire sorc, I think you can do all of these bosses without issues:
Meph (teleport to D3 and moat or let merc tank)
Pindle (if he comes FI, let merc take him)
Shenk (pack is only CI)
Eldritch (pack is only CI)
Countess (main pack is CI, merc can handle any extra + Countess)
Andy - You don't like the pack, but you can handle this by teleporting directly up-right from entrance to lvl 4 (will be in bottom-right of Andy room). Let merc kill the demons right there, then teleport up to the left of Andy where the other pack is. Merc will hold demons, Andy will come investigate. Smoke her when she's visible and when she dies she kills all minions near her. If you have Shiver Armour it will help, anything that swings at you will get chilled so you can walk away.
