Finish clearing this game for a potential soj?

Ahhhh help
I was just doing a regular MF NM clearing and got a nagel and a manald on the same run, correct me if I'm wrong but I coulda sworn I read somewhere that if those 2 drop an SoJ is next unique ring to drop if it is within the same game. Should I finish clearing this game of every single monster I can possibly find? If so should I /players 1 or 8 or am I just off my rocker and should move on to the next game.

Well that used to work like that back when Nagelring, Manald Heal and Stone of Jordan were the only three unique rings. Unfortunately, if you're playing with the expansion it wont work like that anymore.

Since the game cant drop the same unique twice in the same game, the next time you'd get an unique ring, it can't be either Nagel or Manald. The next ring could be a SoJ, but it could also be a Raven Frost or a Dwarf Star. You do have a better chance of finding a SoJ on that game, but you're still more likely to find the other two rings first.

oh ok so the can't drop same unique ring twice in the same game is still in effect, I wasn't crazy, it's just theres a bigger pool of it now with the LoD rings. Thanks for the info!

Hmmm I still think i'll clear this game but I wonder if I should on /players 1 or 8 prolly 8 I guess

The thing is if the game wants to drop a Manald or Nagel now, you'll see a rare ring instead. If you see a unique ring dropped, you know it can't be either a Manald or Nagel, but you'll see less unique rings overall as the rarity of the SoJ (and all the other unique rings) stays the same.

edit: I mean if you stay in the game and don't s&e.

Pretty sure this is how it works too. You might see more rare rings (though I think the number you get in a game is entirely random anyway) but if you do see another unique ring, you've got a 2/3 chance of a useful one (ravenfrost or soj hopefully). I'd clear the rest of the game if I saw this happen, just because I'd be superstitious.

/p8 will definately give you more drops, so do p8.

SiTro is right. If you keep playing, you won't be able to get another manald or nagel until you S&E, but neither do you get an increased chance of finding other unique rings. There's no real reason to keep that game up longer than you otherwise would.

As has been said, having Manald and Nagel drop in that game only ensures that the next time either of them is rolled, it's going to be a failed rare. You don't have an increased chance of finding a SoJ. Let me explain this with an example:

You kill a monster. The drop mechanics decide to drop a ring, and a unique one. Regardless of any having dropped already in that game, one of them is chosen according to their relative rarities. If it's a SoJ, you get that one (though that's the same as having it drop in a different game). If the game chooses to drop a Manald Heal or a Nagelring, it first checks if they have been dropped in that game, and since they have, you'll get a rare ring instead (not even triple durability! :yikes:).

ps. p7 and p8 give the same drops.

Can you get those in NM? I thought you could only get them in hell (I guess maybe from baal or diablo)
Hm. Atma seems to suggest Diablo could drop it in Nightmare, but, yeah, that's pretty slim odds.
