Finally...

Finally, after about 3 weeks of playing, my first HC character has managed to solo the entire game, save normal Duriel, finishing up with Hell Baal. He was a summon Necro, using mediocre gear, mostly that I found. However, I was more than disappointed with my Hell Baal drop. After almost 10 minutes of having my skeletons whack away with him Decrepify'd, he drops me 3 magic items and 2 rares (a Military Pick and a Defender). I hear about how everyone gets these godly drops from him, and I get 2 friggin' rares :grrr: Damn my bad luck! Anyways just thought I'd brag a bit, :p

even with 20/20 sm/rs (and thats it for summons), hell travincal is doable, although of course not as easy with better gear. i did it with +2rs/+1sm, it did take a couple of army rebuilds.

gj on ur guardian! summon necros are fun as hell solo, too bad i had even worse luck than u (i ended the game with like 3 rares, 1 set (hsarus boots), 1 eth item (my wand i got from a1 norm), and the rest magics. soooo ghetto

definitely. i tried doing trav with like 0 res all last ladder season; i had to retreat to those "casts blizzard" thingies even before my army can attack em. cold res is definitely important; of secondary importance is fire res.

Actually, when I finished Anya in Hell, I had pretty good resists:

44 Fire
71 Cold
75 Lightning
70 Poison

Most of this came from a Preserved Head I found in Act 1 Normal. It had +3 to Skeleton Mastery and +1 to Raise Skeleton. I socketed it, and put 2 P-Diamonds in it. Also, I found IK Belt in Act 5 Nightmare, so that helped my Fire and Lightning resists quite a bit.

To do the High Council in Hell, I basically cleared as much as Travincal as possible, in order to get rid of all the Blizzard guys and Ghoul Lords. After I had my army (11 Skeletons, Merc, 13 Revives and a Golem), I used my Fire Golem's Holy Fire to lure out 1 or 2 Council Members at a time and dispatched them easily. It's much easier if you lure them out of the temple and in between the 2 ponds in front, so your army can surround them.

The hardest part was actually rescuing Anya in Hell. The Frozen River spawned Gloams, Ghosts and Dark Lancers, so I had to go really slow. It was alot harder than the Black Soul spawn in WSK 2 because the Gloams tended to float over the River, where my summons couldn't reach them.

Good luck to everyone wanting to make a Summon Necro, they're great fun. Just don't try and solo Normal Duriel, or you WILL die :p

I never have any problems w/ normal Duriel; I just don't do him until I'm at a higher level. How you get through the worm's cave in hell is what I would like to hear about.

It took me a WHILE to get through the Maggot Lair. I tried to keep my merc up front as much as possible, but most of the time it was always a single skeleton that was hacking away. The reason that Skelemancers are so good is because of the number of skeletons that they have, not so much in the damage they do. If it's only one skeleton, then it takes a lot more time to go anywhere, even with Amplify Damage and Might.

I find it easier to unsummon all my skellies and rely on my merc/ce. That was nm though, merc probably wouldn't do enough dmg in hell.
