Few bowazon questions.

After a few years of not playing and coming back I made a bowazon. I plan to max out strafe but that leaves me with all the other skills. What do most people put into CS, Penetrate and Pierce? And how many into the avoidence skills? Not sure about Valk either. And im not sure what I need for an elemental attack...does magic arrow work well against the phys immune mobs? or should I go to a fire or ice arrow? And what about guided arrow? whats it still used for?

Good choice on the zon!

Max guided arrow whilest you're at it. Works well vs bosses or pvp (of course). Go with Magic Arrow for phys immunes. I've never come accross a phys/magic immune baddie but I see a lot of phys/fire or ice immunes. Pierce? I went with 5 points (my +skills work it out). Penetrate? I think I went with Maxed... I'll check. I also tossed a few into my little valk just for Baal runs as a distraction. Then of course dodge/evade.

one point into FA is a must! max it if you want to dabble a bit in the frozen side of Sears. magic arrow is a one point wonder, though. there are no good boss killers on the bow side. boss killing comes from gear (crushing blow). i found 20 points in GA to be a waste. also you can only go with that few into pierce if you've got or plan to get a razortail.

Ouch! Guided arrow certainly helps for the long-range hunter. Sniping at Baal with the IGA (invisible guided arrow) glitch helps a lot. And yes, whilest crushing blow does play a huge part in it, GA alone is still a contender and you WILL NEED IT MAXED for any hope at a good pvp bowazon later on.

But we all have our personally choices and I can only project my personal experience out of over 20 zons made (frost maiden/pyro/hybrid/java/pike/bowa and several variations between)

oh yah i agree max GA for pvp. course he never mentioned pvp...

pvm in my experience, GA blows. try and long range snipe at dury, see how far that gets you. similar for baal. in my personal experience the easiest time i've had with bosses on a bowazon comes from having a crap load of life leech or preferably life tap (wand, dracs, marrow walks, w/e) and just tanking them be it with GA or strafe (if you have good ar, strafe, if not, GA(one point wonder)). running and gunning is just a way to get your merc/valk/yourself killed. long rangering it is great when you can, but it doesnt always work out that way.

I'm use to rounded builds pvmvp, guess thats where the confusion started. Duriel I can see issues with, though valk solves that. Baal is easy to long-range with the IGA glitch I mentioned (where you stay near the entrance on the edge of the gap that separates you and baal, fire arrows and the image vanishes but you can still hit him when done right. takes MAYBE 120 shots with good crushing blow and you wont be hit by his nasty spells). Strafe is no doubt a power-house with high AR, but GA takes AR out of the equasion on bosses. Eternal debate, though. Cest la vi. (if you really want a wicked attack just do everything possible to get level 30 magic arrow, it rips through things like a paladin's hammer)

that is something i've not had on any zon i've made yet, a magic arrow i put more than one into.

Superdave started one when he was playing with us last year, but then we stopped playing together. Why did we stop? I wonder if he ever finished the build. A 25-30 pt magic arow zon could be a blast. I'll have to try it and write a guide.

i think we stopped b/c ladder reset. i remember asking him if he intended to go the whole game with only one quiver of arrows.

Still low, hop onto East! I'll help you out.

If you want a guide I can pop one out when I'm done with this case file... seeing as how I already have a hell running level 90 MA/Ice Maiden zon and all...

My strafer is something like this:
20 - strafe
20 - Pene
12 - CS
20 - Valk
5 - Pierce
1 in other prereqs
rest into decoy (synergizes valk and makes the decoy durable enough for more distraction)

I'm with CDM on the "1 or 20 GA" debate. With good AR, strafe will beat GA even for bosses. I can't imagine why AR will be a problem for zons though since you will normally have 300+ dex minimum and max Pene... add to that the Fine/Sharp charms which normally fills up zon inventories and you should reach 10k AR easy. If you have Demon Limb then AR is through the roof PVM-wise. I agree though GA will have its situational uses but IMO not enough frequency to merit maxing.
