Fellow Vet. Necros: I ask for help :)

Hello!

I am BoneHonnor, and I have been using this site as my main course of info for a long time. (well for me at least :p) In Nov. of 2007, I got D2 and played open only. I 6 weeks ago decided that it was time to enter the big scary world of closed and, to my suprize, was amazed at how much better it is!!!! But to get to the point.

I am a Commando necro, at lvl 75, almost 76. I am having troubles in hell because of my resist, and that i can not do any damage like i need to. :/ I find that I am becoming more and more a fishmancer then a commando cause I have to run away! In hell, Count runs are so hard. Every time i finally kill a unique, they explode and i die! >_< Ones that let out lightning really rip me apart.

I just started getting ok gear recently, but its not enough, because my resists are bad. -40 for most in hell last time I compared to my buddy's. For you convenience, I will give u my specks for your experienced brains to chow down on.

Necro: lvl 75

Strength: 199 (with boosts)

Dex: 238 (with boosts)

Vit: 145 (with boosts)

Energy: 64 (with boosts, no investment too)

AR: 1386

Attack:168-306 (weap 2) weap 1: WAS 400-700. (dagger vanished. i might have it with mule and don't know. Idk really right now. :/ Could have poofed to since some nice guy gave it to me.)

Block: 75% (oh yes, high levels have hard time hitting me :) )

Chance of hitting: Says 95%, but when i go to hell or hit people, i miss more then i have them block it. So i would say 85% in pvp. :/

Resists:

Fire: 51% in hell

Cold: -10%-25% in hell (i am looking at my stuff in a norm game right now)

lightning: easily -35%-40% in hell

Posion: I think its -10% to +6% in hell.

Skill Tree:

Summons:
20 skell master (32 with perks)
20 to skell (31 with perks)
1 to all golums (12 with perks)
1 to golum master (12 with perks)
1 to resist (12 with perks)
1 to revive (12 with perks)
1 to mages (12 with perks)

P and Bone:

1 to teeth (12 with perks)
1 to ce (12 with perks)
1 to bone spear (12 with perks)
1 to bone spirit (12 with perks, does 400-550, bone spear is half that)
1 to bone armor (12 with perks, at 475)
20 to bonewall (31 with perks)
1 to prison (12 with perks)

Curses:
2 to amp (14 with perks)
1 to life trap (13 with perks)
1 to iron maiden (13 with perks)
1 to stuff up to decript (13 with perks)
1 to decript (13 with perks)

_______

As one can tell, my skill tree is very nice, and my skellies show it in hell and vrs barbs, where as a commando, i rip through them. (at least that was the case when I was 60) Like I said, its been late that my gear has been ok. Mostly because of kind folks.

----------------> So whats my problem then?
1) resists

2) I can not get anything better now to make my build good. :/ I am poor, even down to money. I can not hire my merc any more. And that hurts. Further more, I can not change my gear for more resist gear because I need this stuff for my skellies. I Guess I need help on figuring what I should prioritize since I am poor. :/

To find out more of my delema, here is my gear:

Helm: Doom Horn circlet: 20 deff, +2 to necro skills, 6 to min damage, 28 to life, 18 to max stam, magic damage reduced by 2

Armor: Que-Hagens Wisdom Made Plate. (Found it on Andy in nightmare!!!! So lucky! :) ) 1 to all skills, 20 to faster cast, and recover, 662 deff, 15 to energy, and magic damage reduced by 7.

Gloves: Some guy came in a room called kick ***, and said here, take these: Trangs gloves. :) WoW was I stoked. He also gave me trangs wing.

Shield 1: Trangs wing, shield 2: Gerkes sanctuary pavise, deff 242, 74% block, 23 to all resist, Lots of st requirement, replenish life by 15, reduce magic damage by 7, attacker takes damage of 7.

boots: Crap marrowwalk boots with 1 to master. 190 deff

belt: razortial. Very nice belt with high damage back. This one i found on the ground. Not from my kills of a monster, I imagine someone did the killing and left it there?

ring: This took some trading: Raven Frost and Bullkogs Wedding band. This sucked me dry. :/

ammy: +2 to summon with 10 to resist and 10 to mana, etc. Cheep one. Lucky find by me.

Wand: I traded a hole lot of stuff for backhand key. Had it since I was 50. I got a cut of it cause I was a friend of his i think.

Weapon: Gone. :/

Problem with gear: Bad resists, and my charms are mostly damage and recover charms. I did yesterday trade a +1 paly grand charm with 2-3 fire damage for a NECRO TORTCH!!! :) 14/14. Picked it over a ber that another guy offered for. Best deal I have ever made now. :) It helped a lot for me these last few days.

__________________

------------My goal:

Enigma: How can I get it? My Count Runs ARE CRAP! I never get anything good. 150 runs and best was dol. :/ oh and lum. Can anyone help teach me how to trade and get hrs? :(

Beast: Same thing with enigma. I need these so i can do damage and help my army. This guy will be for Mf, Monster Kill, AND PvP. I am having BIG troubles owning barbs now. And I have never been able to own sorc or assins because they run. :/
---
Fort or Bramble for merc

Dream for Merc or Me

Shanko for me or Merc

Infinity or insight with Merc.

*******Aegis or Ward shield so I can 4 socket it for Spirit so I can get some resists. This is what I need the most right now. :/ I have asked people for ever if they have it for trade. I am looking for one with high Block rate and Deff. :/

___________
My other problem: Not being able to Sell stuff for higher grade runes, etc!!!!

I have right now:

tals ammy, tals belt (both from baals rushing) Tried Charging for um like everyone else, but know one bites!

5 oc Sup flail. I sell this for ko, but know one Bites! People tell me I should sell for lem, but I can not even do that! :(

------------I try so hard to go by market standards, but people think they should get it for free. I need help on finding quicker solutions on how to trade at a FAIR rate, and how not to get scamed. (had that a few times too. :( )

**************Conclusion:

In retrospect, I have learned one thing about closed: there is a lot of bs'ers, a lot of mean people, and a few nice ones. Also, a lot of mis informed info floating about on there. (3 90's people told me u could repair eth, well, its to late now. :( ) I really need help in advice with closed battle.net. I looked on here, but there is only so much you can know on what to search for, the rest, you have to ask what to look for, you know what I mean? I don't want to ASK people for gear really, all though I would not mind if you did, but Help in any regards would be much obliged! I hope this was easy to read, and my bad for spelling!!!

I have never played a commando, but I think the problem is that you are just inexperienced, undergeared, and trying a hard character build. There is no shame with what you are doing.

I would say that you do have way to much strength, but then again you are just using what you have. If you can shoot for a Humonculus (unique necro head), that would give you lots of necro skills, and also give you max block and good resistances. It will truly blow the other two choices you have out of the water, and they are pretty cheap.

For the armor, keep your eyes peeled for skins of the vipermagi, which has +1 skills, resists, and fcr, and is available very cheaply as well.

Blackhand key is allright, but not good for hitting things. If you use that, it would be best to stay back, but then you would be a standard fishymancer.

I am assuming the 20 to BW is for bone armor so you can be close to the enemy swinging away. In pvm BW is useless, I hope you use your mana on CE instead of that when doing your Countess runs. Which btw, you are at kind of a low level for hell domination untwinked. Things would be much easier if you leveled up about 6 more times or so, which once you get to hell baal will be easy.

As for your gear, grats on getting Bul-kathos wedding band. Not sure what realm you are on, but you probably got hosed on the pally charm for low necro torch. The best thing to do is stalk the trade forums for quite awhile. Also reading through the trade values thread will do you a lot of good, because tals belt is worth pgems at most.

On getting wealth, there is a couple of guides around for poor man to rich man strategy. Normally they start with a sorc or another character that can get to and kill act bosses easily. Overall, you just need to know what items are worth trading and what items to leave on the ground, and that is easiest done by hanging out in the trade forums or trade channels on bnet.

There is a help thread somewhere, and item fund threads. Try checking those out, i think they are in player matchup forum.

And there is every bit of information you ever need to know on this forum, and it is actually very easy to find. The stickys at the top of each forum are an excellent place to start, and just reading through the first few pages of each class forum will almost fill you in on what you need to know.

The commandomancer is supposed to fight along with his army. I don't see a damage-dealing weapon in your outfit though. It seems like you're playing a fishymancer anyway and that with sub-optimal gear.
It also sounds like this is your first character. I would say, go and play a fishymancer, don't bother about a commandomancer playing style right now. So let your army do the work. You do the curses and the corpse explosion.

First thing I would say is that you have way too much strength and at the same time so little life. It could be worth re-doing the whole character.

About the equipment:
get other stuff. It doesn't need to be expensive.
A mediocre vipermagi can be traded for 5 gems. Same for a Homunculus (necro shield; lose that trang-oul's wing, it does nothing for you) and an Arm of King Leoric (wand).
Go from there and see. You can go commandomancer once you have a bit better items and a feeling about what's really important for doing damage and surviving at the same time.

About trading:
you said you've traded a paly skiller for a necro torch 14/14 and you were also offered a Ber rune? Well, a 14/14 necro torch is worth 15-30gems (Lem-Pul, EuScL), so it might not have been that good a trade...
I know, it's difficult to get an idea of prices at the beginning but just jump in the cold water and learn by doing. If you think you have found something special or expensive than you can always post it in the trade value forum over here.

cheers,

Wow Thank you Both so much for helping me out! To much St eh? :/ Dang. I only did that so I could nab a the shield, I had and use it. Its Norm. (st is at 175 by the way norm)

About the necro Torch, I asked the other guy who had the ber if that was a good deal, and apologized to him for taking his time away for creating a room just for the trade. He told me it was a good deal. :/ So now I am all confused. On one side, I felt like it was Because it helped me SO much in playing. My army is SO much better, Firestorm is cool, and resist was a plus. I really go for these torches for the + to skills. :/

About that Necro head you both mentioned: I see it all the time offered for a UM. :/ I can't ever seem to get that. :( Best I have ever gotten now in a trade was Sur and Lem. :/

ABOUT SUR. LEM: I was in a trading room trying to trade my tals belt. Instead I came across some guy who wanted a + rabs weap REALLY BAD. All he had was caps for his messages. I told him I had found a sword that gav +5 to rabs and 300 to poison. So we went into a private game and he gave me sur and lem for it! That was the biggest break I got from Anyone! WoW! (I hope at least lol!)

About Kings Wand: Again, I was trying to Sell 4oc 449 Dusk Shroud and now 2 5oc sup flails when this paly guy said no. At the time I did not sell the Sur or lem, so I was VERY poor, and could not even Hire my merc still. I tried with everyone but people told me to piss off. (some, others laughed at me) So this really nice paly came up and traded my tals ammy that he wanted for Kings Arm Wand!!!!!!! WOW. Now I got the wand of the game in my hands, and I feel sooooo happy! :D

You Are Wrong About Tals Belt: Well It seems to me that people want Tals things more then I even thought. :) I found this Tals fanatic who wanted the belt REALLY BAD. He offered me Aldurs Armor and this Unquie armor with all resists but fire, 35 all and 60 for cold, 700 something deff. Plus it was socketed with topez. I would think that aldurs and that armor is worth a few more pgems then the belt :p Maybe I am wrong.

5oc Flails and 4 oc Armors: Wow, what can I say, I can not sell these! I was told that Dusk is worth lem, Flails are worth lem but i should sell for ko. So i do that, and still nothing. :/ So I will go to trade forums and have a go, hoping I can strike something out of nothing I have right now.

Your mentioned I think both of you, that I need to get some other charc. to go MF so i can trade. Well last night I got a barb all the way to hell Just to make Cow games, (rushed) and I am now doing the same with light sorc. All ready I am Finding OK stuff, but alast! I can now go cow hunting when ever I want and not worry about killing the cow King!!! :)

My next Big Question TO all Necro vets: Should I go poison dagger glitch for my remaining points (i need to start adding now cause I got a few to spare) or should I go for Bs or Spear? (BS is still double spear. Mine now does 550+ maxm with only 2 pts in it! :) )

Thank you guys!!!

Re: Fellow Vet. Necros: I ask for help :)

If you don't have Enigma and are using teleport charges or your feet, I'd skip running the Countess. 150 countess runs means nothing in the long run. Don't expect any good runes Um+ to drop ever so often even with a guaranteed (not taking no drop chance in account) rune drop from the Countess. If you can't do Countess runs fast, then I would invest the time into running some other area that has more chance of dropping something good overall.

Your best bet for wealth is to farm high level area's (stick with the pits, tamoe highland if you can't handle other level 85 areas yet) for good whites, and maybe that lucky find. Along the way you should find enough crap jewels, flawless gems, low level runes etc. Ral runes, perfect gems (especially perfect amethysts) and crap jewels are highly sought after by players who've acquired some wealth and switch over to crafting, charm rerolling. In sets of 40 you can get a decent rune and start trading for some nice uniques which will help you with resists etc.

When your equipment gets better, your runs get faster and eventually something good will drop that will get you that Enigma sooner or later. Good luck!

Thank you for all the advice! I will try doing that and see what happens. I hate using the sorc. :/ So dumb, all I want to do is necro :/ *sigh*

I still need to know one big thing now:

Should I go posion dagger for AR glitch, OR go 1 bone skill?

Peace!

Re: Fellow Vet. Necros: I ask for help :)

Put your points in DV until you can cover a wide area and it last for a reasonable length of time. The add points to CE or boost up the damage of your bone spirit.

You should look into gettig the low level helm runeword with charges of cloak of shadows. It could replace the DV curse.

Drop all of the damage charms and replace them with resists and life charms.

All stat points go to vitality as your life is low.

Get a might merc.

Dont hit things your life is too low. Just stand back and use curses, bone spirits and CE.

Also, dont forget to throw your clay golem ahead of your advance to scout out the bad guys or into masses of them to help you skells.

Use the socket quests to add resists to your Homoculus shield witha pdiamond.
