Heh.. My friends and I usually choose a color for our characters when we make them, and stay true to that at all costs. Not easy finding decent equipment of your color since you usually have to use gems. I'll go for this though, it'll be nice doing this SP, and the rules that my friends and I didn't follow will spice things up a bit. I don't think I'll enter the tournament though, I always fail at them. Besides, I'd lose so many points on Duriel that I'd have a negative score.

Scrute and f_b, you should definitely join up. :) This is only meant to be chill and fun, so no need to worry.

Bunko cranked up the voltage and zapped the crap out of Duriel, entering A3 at level 27. The fight was tough though, as a pike + holy freeze = ~2 full seconds per attack! Luckily, with Power Strike at level 15, and Charged Strike at level 10, PS throws down 36-1007 damage! Not too shabby for this point in the game. :D

I also gambled a lovely circlet, which can be seen at here: http://www.lavieneko.com/elcomm/Imp-Mask.jpg

As I was thinking "my kingdom for some armor with "cannot be frozen" on it" during the fight with Duriel, he was kind enough to drop me Hawkmail. It would've been much better had I found that BEFORE the fight with Mr. Holy Freeze, but you can't win 'em all.

I've been playing D2 for many hours. Time for sleep.

In slightly OT news, I'm finally getting a new computer! Mine has been toast for over a year and a half now, after my crap motherboard blew up (litterally! There was a hole in it the size of a quarter!). I've been forced to play around the wife, who spends between 8-18 hours a day in front of this thing. No more falling asleep on the couch waiting for my turn to use the computer! Yay!

Alright, I'll give this a go! I've always been a big fan of color-themed chars. I'm only going to promise two chars for now though as my d2 time is rather limited lately.

First up will be my fire trapsin-Carrie. I think I'll go with red
And second will be a frenzy barb-Shriek. Black sounds like a good color.

rock on

This sounds like a good time to try a char I've been meaning to for fun. I'm in. I'm at work so I can't put up a fancy table (yet...) but I plan on making a character based on Link from the Legend of Zelda series (wearing Green of Course) I thought of a pally, but Think it'll be a Zon (so link has b00bs, sue me, I actually think that might be a style point...) So I can use sword/sheild (Go master sword in a colorful blue) and a Jav on switch because Link's Mastersword shoots when at full hp (to be fair, I shouldn't use this when I'm below full hp). I may also keep a good bow on hand to switch to (link has many weapons)

Is this kosher with the color theme? style theme?

Also, in case I missed it in the rules, is it ok to set players to more than one for exp?

Rock on, let's do this

That's an awesome plan! Maybe I'll make a zelda/sheik version of an assassin or something. plans are being made...

It's not going to end for awhile, I think. Probably in the middle of May or so, give or take some weeks. It's basically just to encourage people to try new and neat builds. :)

Hey wildjinn - got a question for you. Are we allowed to trade items between our participating characters? My spearazon can barely move without tripping over topazs, but she has no real use for them. Another character I was planning, is using them for his stuff.

In other news, Bunko has worked through the obnoxious parts of A3 and stopped in Lower Kurast at level 30. I can finally use my primary skill! Too bad it does all of 1-113 damage... A few more levels and it'll be useful. Either that, or I can keep using Charged Strike, which is working out pretty nicely.

Looks like I've got another half hour to get somewhere before I have to go to work. Back to the salt mines.

Well, I finally made it out of act 1 with Carrie, my fire trapper. She did really well mopping up all areas of act 1. Andariel went down like a chump after a few well placed Wake of Fire traps. She's looking forward to act 3 where she'll get her final companion, a fire mercenary. I SHOULD go with an act 2 merc, but they're just so tacky and besides...I'm sick of seeing them :uhhuh:

I'm game. I'm adding one slight stipulation to my builds, though. They are based off characters out of legend.

Code:
Forum Name Character name Build Color Act HC/SC Points
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ravenforce3 WilliamWallice Sword Berserker Red A1 SC -
RobinHood Hunter (Druid) Green A1 SC -
               Arachnae Venom/DClaw 'Sin Black A1 SC -
Thor Shockadin Yellow A1 SC -
The other stipulations include the following:

WilliamWallice (a.k.a. Braveheart): May only use cloth/leather armors and MUST use a Claymore/Dacian Falx/Highland Blade as soon as he finds one.

Arachnae: Must use Katar/Quhab/Swayyah or Wrist Blade/Wrist Spike/ Wrist Sword

Thor: Must use War Scepter/Divine Scepter/Cadeceus or War Hammer/Battle Hammer/Legendary Mallet

Well, I take my usual place as the first casualty of the tournament. Bunko got fried by Diablo. She got charged, trapped against a wall, and D's lightning fried me before I knew what hit me. I even turned the game down from /players 8 to /players 2 before hitting seals, since I knew I'd have problems. Even with turning it down, the Grand Visear was still difficult. Those things must have some good lightning resistance. On the other hand, I fried the...uh...Whatshisname...the Burninator...er...(That Venom Lord pack that appears on the opposite side that the Grand Visear shows up) in two shots with Charged Strike. That was fun. Roasted Lord de Sais and his group in one shot. I like lightning damage. Wildly inconsistant, but when it hits hard, it hits HARD.

I did learn a few things though:
- Spearazons are a very tough class to play. They have a ton of disadvantages and no advantages over the Javazon at all. The extra damage from the spear doesn't come close to making up the range or speed from the jav, and you still get to carry a shield.
- When I try it again, I'm going to completely leave Lightning Strike out of it. At level 4, it's completely useless. Ooooh. It deals 1-183 damage and shoots 4 bolts out! WOW! ... By the time I got there, Charged Strike was costing 1.8 less mana per shot, threw out 6 charged bolts doing 1-637 damage each. Power Strike was even more useful, throwing down an impressive 37-1529 damage per shot. That's a LOT of damage for not even having made it past Diablo...
- If you switch from the ever useful A2 merc to a not-quite-as-useful A3 merc, do it as soon as you can, NOT just before you fight Mephisto. After hanging around in A4 trying to get my merc to level, he made it all the way from level 19 to level 21... I think it would've helped had my merc been a closer level to me, and to Diablo. Another learning experience.

Her stats and such:
Level 33
Str:70
Dex:75
Vit:85
Ene:15 (40 with gear)
Life:329 with gear
Mana:181 with gear
Power Strike - 15
Charged Strike - 14
Lightning Strike - 4
Prereqs - 1 each.

Perhaps I'll start on my ranger druid when I get home from work. I have to be at work in about 20 minutes, but after that, it's the weekend. Hopefully I can get something done.

:sigh: Work = dumb.

About Lightning Strike vs. Charged Strike: Take them both up in levels (15+ base) first. Lightning Strike stays on par with Charged and is most useful in the same way Chain Lightning is: Crowd Killing. Charged Strike is good because you get the same effect as a Charged Boltress standing right up next to the boss in that most boss type monsters will be taking the listed damage x7 or 8, depending. If you think I'm full of garbage, I have first hand experience with PURE Spearazons. Even though I still can't chew my way through seas of the undead (read: Horadric Mummies & co.) or Jab fast enough to take out Extra Fast Scarabs, she is much more fun to play than anything I've played in a long time.

heh. awesome stuff, albeit brief, so far, you guys! my poison necro has begun his life. i'll update with a little story as soon as my creative juices flow and my relatives leave town. :)

oh. and i suppose items can be muled between these characters and these characters only. fashion is almost always derivative. :)

Time to fish this off of page 3.

I started my ranger druid, like I planned. Ichi has worked his way up to level 23 and just picked up the cube. He's killing like a machine; at least his wolves are. He doesn't do squat except stand there and collect items that drop. :) He's at about 80% MF right now. Should be more, but I accidently put a chipped topaz in to the second socket of my splint mail instead of the cube, so I could make it a normal topaz. Woopsy.
I'm almost completely yellow at this point. The only exceptions are my shield and sword. Even my belt is yellow. :)

I'm tired. Sleep = good.

Okay. Pindle runs are done, and my poisonmancer has been born. His exciting trip through the den of evil was unfruitful and unremarkable except for a few near-deaths, mostly because of negligence on my part. :p He's fun so far and might go much farther past the end of this tournament if he doesn't end up being boring...but I don't see how a character that explodes corpses into a cloud of poisonous gas could possibly be annoying. Seriously.

Back off page 3. Is anyone but me and wildjinn still playing in this?

Ichi has gotten past Duriel in the most boring end of act 2 I've ever had. Even though my 3 dire wolves are doing a hefty amount of damage, it took me nearly two hours to get through one false tomb and the proper tomb. This is probably because the only monsters that were in both of those tombs were apparitions and those giant mummy guys that carry a bunch of skeletons around; and the giant mummies were ALWAYS in packs of 3 or more, making killing things a VERY slow process. My bow doesn't do much damage, and fires slow. My A1 merc, who has just been fired (and replaced by a A3 cold merc named Scorch.. ) wasn't doing much damage either. It was taking so long, that I had to turn the game down from /players 8 to /players 3 just to get done with the tomb and type this before I went to work.

I've been finding a ton of set and unique items. This is the list of stuff I found in A2:
Isenhart's Case
Isenhart's Lightbrand
Isenhart's Horns
(x2)
Arctic Binding
Berserker's Headgear
Cathan's Seal
(x2)
Angelic Sickle
Hsarus' Iron Heel
Hsarus' Iron Stay

Hellplauge
Skewer of Krinitz
The Diggler
(Ethereal)

Not too shabby. This also marks the first time that I've found any part of Isenhart's set aside from the common-as-dirt breast plate. My merc has the 3 parts I've collected thusfar, and it looks like he'll be safe for a while.

Anyways, Ichi the Ranger Druid has reached Kurast at level 27. I don't forsee any problems until I get to Diablo. Once I get to level 30, I can start pumping the Griz for extra wolf damage. By the time I get to Diablo at around level 35, my wolves should be doing about 65 damage each, and have almost 800 life with the oak sage going. My griz should be doing about 50 damage, and have almost 4000 (!!!!) life with oak sage.

CRAP! 5 minutes to get ready and get to work! D'oh!

Hm... Another two days, and nobody but me is updating... Is this tournament dead and nobody bothered to tell me?

For those who are interested, Ichi the hunter druid has made it past Mephisto and Diablo and has stopped at the first waypoint of A5 at level 36. Despite 138% MF, I only found one set (Vidala's Ambush) and one unique (Hawkmail) between A3 and A4.

Me thinks this will be my last update here, unless someone else posts something. I feel somewhat foolish continuing to drag this off of page 3 or 4 and updating if nobody else is paying attention.

:drink: cheers!

Yeah. I'm still working on that poisonmancer, but if it's just us two, there's no real point, i suppose. :/ Perhaps I'll make a new thread, but make it a screenshot thread for posting of neat stuff that happens. up to you, EC. If you want the tournament prize, it's clearly yours. :)

wildjinn - I was going to PM you the following, but your PM box is full.
---
I think I'll continue to play, and I'll PM you links to screenshot updates. I'll see if I can get Ichi through A5 tonight, and then I'll probably take a few days off. My new computer should be arriving in the next day or two, and I'll still have to install a few parts, Windows, and of course D2. I might start up another character, but I'm not sure. Depends on how fast Ichi moves though A5, and weather or not I feel like starting another character. Besides, I'm having some pretty good fun with Ichi and will probably keep playing him, though I'm not sure I'll stick with the single-tree part.

As far as the prizes are concerned, it's up to you weather you want to send them or not. I'm sure you didn't get the turnout you were hoping for, and I'm not going to demand prizes for something when I'm the only one who participated. If you want to send them, cool; if not, that's cool too. My email address is [email protected]. I'm having a good time playing, and the theme is a neat idea.

Cheers!
