fanatic zealots still viable?

this is one of the last paladin builds i havent gotten to play yet so i was thinking about creating one for ladder. i remember being told that aura flashing still works for some auras but i cant remember if the fanzealot was. is it worthless without conviction flashed?
thanks

Fanatic Zealots are still viable.

I wouldnt say that a fanatic zealot is better then a hammerdin but they sure are much more fun to play. Playing Hammerdins is just too easy.

Aura flashing is very near useless in 1.10.

My new "Ironman" (using what i find) pally is just an FanaticZealer , i'd say its very viable and very playable "untwinked" .

The biggest problem is to get a decent 1hander im using Fleshrender atm , and it works fine , but i guess i need a better dmg weapon in hell.

thanks for the replies. so it would be useless to put points into conviction right? i plan on playing untwinked also, so its good to hear its possible that this build can be pure.

One thing you should definately be on the look out for is a pair of Dracul's - these will save your life so much more than leech.

IMO all melee are disadvantaged in Hell, and become items dependant.

As you're playing untwinked, I found that Iceblink is a tremendous armour for a Zealot as you will be virtually untouchable by monsters surrounding you...I used my own 1/2 through NM...

In the old ladder, my zealot was equipped with:
Tal Rasha's Horadric Crest
Shaftstop
Lightsabre with Amn
String of Ears
Ravenfrost
Dwarf Star
some sacred targe with +114 to all resist (4 perfect diamonds were in it)
some unique or set boots with faster run walk
Draculs gloves

He really had no problems in hell. Probably the hardest thing to find was either the Dracul's or the Lightsabre.

At level 86, he had fanaticism, conviction, zeal and sacrifice maxed out. It is really a matter of taste on whether you want to max zeal or conviction last. I recall maxed conviction being far more useful than maxed zeal in the early days of the first ladder since there were always some sorcs and other zealots with fanaticism in the party.

Leech is the main thing you want to keep on that build. With enough leech you dont need Godly equip to survive, but watch out for IM curse. Instant death :cheesy:

Life Tap > Leech anyday!

The only leech my own Zealot has is SoE...but he equips Dracul's and with 4fps Zeal it goes off a lot.

No need to argue life tap vs. leech for zealot builds. The lightsabre with Amn, Tal's Mask and String of ears gives 27% Life Leech. Dracul's gives life tap. You can have the both of best worlds here.

Fanaticzealot if the only char I'm playing in L2. He is lvl86 right now, haven't complete Act5, but it's fun to play.I don't have dracul, but I have a wand of Life tap. You can't control when does life tap curse go off in dracul and Exile. When you are about to die, they are not dependable. Curse your target before you jump in the fray, you'll feel safer. Level 5 life tape cost you only 1k gold per charge.
I play untwinked, so I'm still using Sigon's helm/belt/boot. I'm lucky enough to found a Shaft in nm and runes to up it in hell. Resist should not be a problem thanks to your shield. I had firepower problem early on before hell council give me a Rune Master. I sockered 2 eth in it so it hits everytime I attack. May put 2 shael to push it faster but I have to check ias bp table first.
As to the freaking PI, I use Venegrance.
Good luck man. Don't die too much from OKs' IM.

how about fanatic avengers then? i remember seeing a few a long time ago back pre 1.9 and then about all i saw were hammerdins. avengers using fan. instead of conv. would be able to utilize leech a lot better than convicted avengers, right?

I like the fanatic zealer! stormlash/crescent moon static-y type weapon + dracul's grasp = good times m8! my build went something like 5 zeal 20 sac 20 defiance 20 fanat 20 holy shield ... lots of ar charms needed ;D deadly strike and crushing blow, open wounds, anything that triggers on strike is fun ...

i second that. barbarians especially. even the most efficient skill (whirlwind) is nowhere near optimal without very specialized equipment. sorcs, amazons, and about 1/2 of possible paladin builds can all do OK with 'leather' items ;) i haven't researched druids/asss.

It is more challenging but i think that's what makes it fun actually... I was proud to play my zealot on ladder and am thinking of dressing him up again for dueling maybe ;D

i think you can dress a basic zealot up in sig's gloves and boots, stick a nord's or razor's edge on em and go to town, if you have some luck and find vampire's gaze or stormshield it get's easier... make some trades and snag an um for crescent moon, or hell get a stormlash(even the lowest % one still kicks ***!) and you can really go to town. HoZ is nice but necessarily needed to be sucessful... dracul's grasp is a really nice thing to have, it will save your butt alot, maybe the only essential thing or easier still shop for a life tap wand! I used to mf @ baal solo for a while with said zealot and found some nice charms and stuff when i was just starting out(just avoid souls and obliv's)... I got lucky down the line mf'ing and made some trades to make my life easier but i finished hell with a rare shield and some junk eq... died once or twice but whatever... the key to success might have been my build, i had low investment in zeal and maxed out holy shield and defiance... high defence helps a zealot, something i learned in the beta! upgraded a guardian angel at somepoint! stuck a -15%req jewel in it cause i didn't realise the str req would be so high - oops! got working on trading for some res charms and then baal runs became a sinch, got a bow for oblivion knights too! the rest is history...
