Famine Axe plus maxed masteries?

I'm running under the assumption that the masteries effect elemental damage from weapons. If this is true, wouldn't a Famine rune word weapon be absolutely hideous if you had all three maxed. Sorry if this has already been covered. I poked around a little bit and didn't see anything on it.

Mastries affect all the elemental damage from what i've read in enchantress/melee sorc guides... So famine or a hellrack xbow as a weapon could give you a decent damage boost.

But keep in mind that there are also runewords that grant you good attack skills; I consider them better options.
- passion gives you zeal for a very fast attack or berserk for fire immunes. combine this with a tiamats rebuke (unique shield) for extra elemental damage
- Kingslayer gives you vengeance for a big elemental boost (+70% fire +70% lightning and +70% cold, more with some +skills) that gets further enhanced by your mastries.

Famine, would be nice, but Kingslayer would grant you alot more Elemental damage than present on Famine. Or at least the would be equal.
Besides that Kingslayer is ALOT cheaper :)

I'm confused, but I'm going off of diabloii.net's stats and maybe they're wrong/outdated.

King Slayer
+30% Increased Attack Speed
+230-270% Enhanced Damage (varies)
-25% Target Defense
20% Bonus To Attack Rating
33% Chance of Crushing Blow
50% Chance of Open Wounds
+1 To Vengeance
Prevent Monster Heal
+10 To Strength
40% Extra Gold From Monsters

Famine
+30% Increased Attack Speed
+270-320% Enhanced Damage (varies)
Ignore Target's Defense
Adds 180-200 Magic Damage
Adds 50-200 Fire Damage
Adds 51-250 Lightning Damage
Adds 50-200 Cold Damage
12% Life Stolen Per Hit
Prevent Monster Heal
+10 To Strength

Is there something you can do with that +1 to vengeance I don't know about? I just assumed that would only work for a paladin. Otherwise I don't see any elemental stats for the Slayer.

If at level twenty for all the masteries and maybe a conservative +3-4 item skill bonuses for everything you're multiplying lightning by roughly 4, fire by 3, and Cold by 1.5-2, that's going to add up pretty severely on top of the straight up magic damage and the physical bonus. Am I wrong? If you took a build and dumped everything into energy shield and then maybe the rest into static charge, that would be a pretty fearsome melee character wouldn't it? The beauty of it is that unless they're completely magic immune, you won't really have to worry about them being resistant to any one element. Of course, unless you really save up those skill points by not investing as much into ES, you're not going to max the masteries out until lvl 99. I'm just wondering if you guys think the total damage even with say, only two maxed would be strong enough. You wouldn't need to invest anything into mana and could keep dex relatively low if you're going with a two handed axe (axes seem most ideal for the bonus to demon damage and relative speed). All strength and vit?

I'm relatively knew so not sure that's enough damage to take on Hell or not. What do you guys think?

that +1 vengeance is a Oskills (i think) it is just like teleport on enigma and zeal and zerk on passion, not for 1 class only

Ahhh... that would make sense then. Still, you'd probably be better off as a vengeance paladin although a vengeance pal imitator with maxed energy shield would be no joke.

Ofcourse a Venegance Paladin would be better off, since he couldget lvl20+ Venegance, but that is not the point i think. This is a VERY viable Sorceress weapon and at that not expensive either. You will be doing a hell of alot damage with maxed maxed Warmth, Enchant, Fire Mastery, Lightning Mastery, maybe add in ES with TK and 1pt into COld Mastery. There are quite a fewpeople playing this melee Sorceress build with a 2 Handed axe Kingslayer or Cryptic Sword Kingslayer.
You can't compare this with a Paladin. Also usually depending on your setup you will have like a lvl 7-12 venegance, depending on how important you deem other propoerties like FHR, FBR, Resists and such in your build. Might not sound much, but with Masteries this is very well killing build.
