FA or Plague to complement Strafe???

I was planning on having strafe/passives + an elemental attack skill. I'm trying to decide between Plague and FA, as they both seem solid choices, having only one synergy each, which is perfect since I was hoping to be done with my build around level 70-80 zone, then build more into passives and the like. Here are a few specific questions of mine:

1) I'm dirt-poor, and playing offline, so I must survive on what I find. (hence plague and FA as my main attack skills...I have an upped skystrike, but that's about as good as my bows get. :embarassed: ) I was considering Plague followed by a strafe back to full mana? Would only require a high damage bow (wouldn't have to be terribly fast, just able to leech back a considerable amount) and a cracked Javelin, or the starting jav.

2) Frozen Arrow is a completely different bird...pierce (penetrate? I can't remember) is key, as is either a HUGE mana pool, or insane amounts ofleech...both of which seem harder to get than I can manage. Mana leech via strafe will probably be my mana regen again. Plague seems to have the advantage here, as a single slvl 25 plague is all you need for the next 15 secs.

3) Since I'm going to have a solid attack to keep me going (via strafe) and a solid tank (via valk) till I have the gear to support my elemental habit, I think this is a solid build that can survive on self-discovered gear, since I've only ever finished the game with a fishy...anyone have experience with both of these builds PVM?

Thanks for any input I get from you all, as always, any help is appreciated.

The poison tree can put up some biug numbers in the LCS. But I would go FA. You don't need to use it as a main attack and drain your mana. Use it sparingly to freeze critters, especially thosse annoying buggers in Flayer who run around shooting little peas at you. One or two FA then a bunch of strafes, then one or two FA's and a few strafes. Rinse and repeat. It is a fun build that is not too gear dependant.
Have fun and welcome to the forums.

on second thought...

Strafe being so bow-dependent...what about the FA/LF hybrid that I saw in the SP forum? Seems like it might be more friendly since both attacks are skill-based instead of bow-based like strafe. I suppose I could pop those blue pots like skittles instead of trying to keep strafe as a means of mana regen...

that certainly is possible though it is a bit high on skill points, so you may not have a valk. I know the guide didn't use one.

An other option would idd be poison. However, consider using poison combined with one point freezing arrow and lots of extra freeze time. That way you can poison the monsters and keep them frozen while they die. If you take a low lvl strafe - something that isn't a huge deal - and have a decent merc and valk, you will have two elements - poison and physical - and huge freeze.
It may be a slow build, though perhaps one of the most safe around.

P.S. if you max lightning fury and charged strike you already have a decent lightning attack, you don't need a zillion synergies. If you only have 40 points to spend, you don't have to go poison just because it only have one synergy.
