Explain Baal run expirience to me.

A few things has been bothering me, things I never heard about before my recent battle.net expirience. (Still hasn't gotten over it).

What's with that second mob Baal spawns? People tend to leave party, just to rejoin a second later when they spawn, because "exp is bugged"?? Huh?

And what is "lingering"? And what is it good for?

When we were baaling a couple weeks ago with a 90+ exclusive party (very nice runs) we started running out of ppl after a while, and one guy gets a friend (around 70ish level) in the game, but then a lvl 93 barb starts ranting about how he doesn't want that 70ish sorc to "steal his exp". How does one steal exp?

And at what point does it get "slow exp" from baal kills, and when does that speed up again? A lot of the time, we'd kill baal with six people, and a sorc and the barb would leave, make new game, get BO and start teleporting down. I thought that had to be the fastest way possible? Wrong?

the barb probably meant he don't want the sorc to share the exp with him thus stealing his exp.

baal lvling gets slow about 89+ its just tedious work from there. baal run exp don't speed up it only slows down very slowwwwwwwwww if you are 90+ about 500k exp averge on a run when you need 2 billion to level

The reason you always get somebody unpartying during the second wave (Achmel the Cursed, superunique Unraveler and his minions, plus a bunch of Ice Mages) is because of a rather stupid bug with them. If 8 players are partied in the Throne of Destruction in Hell difficulty, then each Unraveler (including Achmel himself) will give exactly ONE POINT OF EXPERIENCE to each player - if one single player unparties and/or leaves the area (usually the lowest level player in the game, since even without the 2nd wave they get far more experience than the higher level characters), then this does not occur and all partied characters will gain proper experience points.

For some bizzare reason, most players refer to this as "glitching".

And Now You Know.

Explanation of the Achmel thing above--and on to the barb--

I have no idea what the barb could be talking about though. The experience you earn from monsters killed is determined by a) the number of people in the room, which is why you'll notice your low level characters leveling much faster in a full game, even if you are the one doing most of the killing, and b) the difference in the Mlvl of the monsters killed and your character. He's talking as if Bartuc the Bloody was worth 1million experience points, so 1 player would get 1 million, 2 would get 500K each, 4 would get 250K each, and 8 would get 125K each. That's not the case. The toughness of the monsters and the experience they generate adjust based on the number of players in the game (hence why "soloing hell" isnt nearly so impressive as beating hell in /players 8 in SP), and why Hell is so much tougher with a group of friends than when you're playing around solo.

That being the case, and in my understanding, any character should want as many ppl in the game as possible to increase the amount of exps that each creature is worth. Once you get to level 86 I think, the amount of experience you get from any source is decreased by a certain percentage. Further, your level 89 character should get next to nothing for beating up on anything in Normal--the Character level and Monster level difference is too great, so he may get 5% of the experience he normally would. Take that figure, divide it by say 4 for being over level 86, and you have about 1.25% of the experience you'd normally get from such a creature is returned to the player.

So, to restate, I think the barb was completely wrong. There isnt a fixed amount of exps to be divided by an increasing number of ppl, hence "stealing" xps appears to be bogus. Further, more ppl in the game = harder monsters and more experience. I'm pretty sure he didnt know what he's talking about, but then, its completely possible I dont know either.

The diminishing exp kicks in at lvl 70 and goes for any monster. The reason exp gets (much) lower around lvl 90 is that normal monsters are mostly not within the 5 levels needed to get more than 5% exp in the first place, which is then cut to something like 5% due to the diminishing exp.

Killing normal monsters with a high level character will give 1 exp per monster (for the most part).

What I don't get is why two people (always the two highest) go to kill baal, while the others stay, but doesn't help. Even a crappy assassin with no CB and chain boots for kicking would do at least some damage, hence the baal kill gets faster, but there are never more than two who makes the kill.

I'd be glad to see this happen, no *noobs* grabbing 'my' stuff... :uhhuh:

The reason is that with, say, 8 players in the game, Baal will give out 8 players' worth of experience. With only the two highest level characters in the Worldstone Chamber, that 8 players' worth of experience will be divided between TWO players, giving them at least 2-3x as much experience as they would get if EVERYONE went to help kill Baal.

As a simple test, get a group of 8 people and party up to clear a high level area in Hell (such as The Pit or Ancient Tunnels), making sure to always keep everybody close together, and keep track of how much experience you gain. Afterwards, do it again, but clear the entire area solo (make sure to use a strong character for this!) while everybody else is in a different area - you will get FAR more experience this way, since the EXP gains from the monsters are not being divided up between other party members in the area.

Going to the barb's quote, the problem was probably because the l70 mage is a (relatively) low level character who is just there to leech and doesn't add anything to the party. That is why he/she is getting upset. Is this right...probably not, but a lot easier to place the blame on that character if someone dies than if everyone is within 5 levels of each other.
