evolution v. creationism

2. Why do Christians think Evolution somehow disproves their beliefs? I go to a Christian school full of fundamentalists, so really all I have is a slanted view of evolution. I have heard my Bible teacher talk about "Young and Old earth creationists" both say God made the world but have a different set of time. "BUT THEY DON'T BELIEVE IN EVOLUTION. IF SOMEONE TELLS YOU THEIR A THEISTIC EVOLUTIONIST THEN THEY REALLY AREN'T A CHRISTIAN"
That is a real quote. I wrote it down.
Ah, the classic No True Scotsman argument.

Most of the creationists are Christians who insist on a 100% literal interpretation of the Bible. Because they are literalists, if anyone can disprove even one tiny fact, then that would disprove the entire Bible (at least in their minds). I believe that Christians who interpret the Bible differently are the real target of creationists.

Since atheists and other freethinkers make up around 5% to 10% of the population (depending on who you ask), this means that the majority of those who agree with evolution must be theists.

I can't believe he would say soemthing like this. Also I think the reason why so many "Atheists" are so anti-Christian is because of people like that condemming them and beating them over the head with a Bible.
Interesting. Why do you put Atheists in quotes?

Anyway, the most anti-Christian amoung atheists are always the ex-Christians, and they all seem to have horror stories about the worst sort of jerks (often parents, sadly). Ah well, you know what they say: no one bleeds redder than the convert.

okay...so are we done evolving? do we look the same as god now? does god have hair on his toes? I'm just wondering...cuz i do...and sometimes my socks grab them and it hurts...and if god has the same problem i know he has figured something out. wait...doesn't god wear sandals? what does he do when it's cold out?

anyway, i don't think humans are perfect. even i have some small defects. but people in general have many weaknesses and many defects. I mean if we were modeled after a perfect being why do we have appendixes? If we're sculptures then we're unfinished work. Sorry, Mith, can't have your cake and eat it too. evolution and creationism are mutually exclusive. just as lightning being electricity vs. lightning being Zeus's javs. is it a jav or a bolt of electricity? Either we're in god's image or we're not. does god look like this?
The Bible says we were made in God's image, NOT EXACT COPIES. I take this to mean that we share some of his traits (capacity to love, compassion, creativity etc.) God didn't want to make people perfect. I didn't really want to get into a discussion of salvation here, but here goes: God made people imperfect and sinful; He sent His son here to atone for our imperfections.

No I don't think people (or other organisms) are done evolving. As the generations pass, some traits are enforced and others become secondary or pass out of the gene pool entirely. All life is CONTINUALLY evolving. I think that's pretty much the central fact of evolution theory. As for your own "small imperfections," my advice would be to never breed and improve the gene pool by refraining from polluting it.

It doesn't have to be one or the other.

God loves flannel. That's the one and only reason that Canada can claim to be a blessed land. Well, that and the hot hot beaver sex.
God HATES flannel, and I'm pretty sure he's not too fond of Canada either. I mean, he LOVES, Canada in the way he loves everybody, but that doesn't mean that he will not pour out the seven bowls of wrath, and vent his rage upon you in the near future.

I feel so disillusioned...

*goes back to eating his poutine, smoking pot and participating in homosexual marriages*

Anahka, If you read the Bible you'll find the people that Jesus was almost always angry at were the people doing the things you mentioned.
I would have to agree with you that most of the other Christians I see do the same things.
I suppose sometimes including myself...
which is something I suppose I need to work on

i thought the article was "blah." its originality or lack thereof is lame. it's equivalent to listening today's high school students debate the issue.

That's probably not too far from the truth since the author is 20 years old. Also satire, by necessity, is not original.
