Ethereal items with charges...repair?

Ethereal items with charges...repair?

Specifically, can the charges on Oath be recharged if made in an ethereal item:

Level 16 Heart Of Wolverine (20 Charges)
Level 17 Iron Golem (14 Charges)

But obviously this qustion applies to any ethereal item with charges.

Nope. Really annoys me too, since items with charges don't spawn with their max number (i.e. things that spawn with 15 of 25 charges, even though it never had, nor ever will have 25 charges).

Wow that is completely retarded and ridiculous...I guess I'll make Oath in a non eth axe then :(

eth = 50% damage

lvl 16 heart of the wolverine = 125% damage, 130% ar, +643 life

Ethereal modifies the base damage of the weapon which gets modified by on-weapon ED and then off-weapon ED. So that +50% from ethereal might end up dealing more damage than the HotW.

Actually, it's not as simple as that (edit: referring to gbones' post, not olbaid's). HoW is off-weapon damage, while etherealness is on-weapon damage. On-weapon damage is better (though I'm much too lazy to figure out the balance points). Also, the spirit will get killed by monsters. Quite often. And it'll definitely die every time the you get stuck fighting a group of really tough enemies (so when you want it the most, it's virtually guaranteed to get killed)...

... The AR boost is nice though.


But I'd take the ethereal Oath in a heartbeat.

damage +50% then +210-340% Enhanced Damage (varies)

vs

damage +210-340% Enhanced Damage (varies) +125% HOW

or in the case of ettin axe (lets assume a perfect roll):

norm:

33 to 66 becomes 112 to 224
and HoW is 140 to 280 (210 final average)

eth:

49 to 99 becomes 166 to 336 (no how) (251 final average)

And that gap only widens with any %ed from items/auras which get factored in before HoW I bet...

The ethereal bonus gets applied on its own multiplier.

(Base damage * X * (1 + on-weapon%ed/100) + minmaxdmg)*(1 + off-weapon%ed/100)

with X being 1 for normal weapons and 1.5 (i.e. 1 + 50%) for ethereal weapons.

Etherealness is far better than the bonuses from the charges, as they are added to the off-weapon part which is usually very big already (auras, skill, str/dex, bonuses from non-weapon equipment go into there) .
