What if we had a new, eternal rift that never ended--but increased in difficulty, exp gain, and leg drop rates every level? The rules might look like this: 1. If you die, you awake in town and the rift automatically closes (for party, the rift stays open but you cannot reenter.) 2. If you return to town, the rift automatically closes (or you can't reenter, like above). 3. You can change skills anytime. 4. You change at will between any gear you are carrying and anything you find. 5. A rift guardian appears every few levels. Maybe randomly every 2-5 levels? 6. In party play, monsters do NOT scale down as members die off. Monsters DO scale down if someone leaves voluntarily. Such a rift would present several challenges: 1. The ultimate HC test. Can you push it just one more level? 2. A HC-like experience for SC players, forcing SC players to think, plan, and play differently. (It could also be a SC stress test for possible HC setups.) 3. How will you gear? Since you can't return to town, you have to carry what you will need AND leave room to pick up what you find. 4. Since monsters do not grow weaker with the death of a party member, everyone must stick and work together to ensure survival. Group defense is as important as group offence.
