Hi Shalak, I probably can't help you much with 1.00, as I think I went straight to 1.03. However, I vaguely remember that CE Necros were the king, as it was before they were hit with the Nerf Stick.

I also remember something about a bug in Act II, the last desert area. And mercs are only good to be Duriel fodder in classic (Holy fire was a waste of time too). Of course you could try the cookie cutter lancebarb, and sorcs rock. I would avoid 1.00, though, as I believe it was quite buggy. Check the patch update information for more details.

Not much happening for me D2-wise at the moment, although I have just found out that I may have some time this evening, which should be good.

For now, I'll just have a quiet Guinness & enjoy the atmosphere. :drink:

Personally, i didn't think my necromancer in 1.00 was that bad. They might be a good choice.

    I will join you. :drink:

Actually, I think they were quite good - it was before Corpse Explosion was nerfed. Don't go overboard with the skeletons, though. I think they were quite weak in classic.

(edit: While I'm here, I think I'll have another one. :drink: :D )

Mage11: Act II bug? Yeesh...I'll keep that in mind. You sure about the sorcs, though? My second Fuegoress, Lillyth, is having one heck of a time. I had to skip the Blood Raven quest, she's so bad. My Paladin, as stated before, is just ripping through. No idea what the deal is. As for avoiding 1.00...'fraid that's nigh on impossible, while I'm here house-sitting, as it's the only version they have. *sigh* Single-player install, what fun.

    Barkeep, another Strawberry Daiquiri, please.

Strijdje: In a way, I can associate. The dog has decided to try to wake us up every hour, on the hour, to go outside for the past four days...from as early as 4 in the morning (I have a hard enough time trying to get to sleep by 1 A.M.!) until 9. *hands you a healthy mug of the Shalakshmiyin Special* There should be enough caffeine in this to fuel you for three days straight, provided you don't time out the drinking. If you get it all in one session, it'll last you eight hours (but your heart will race like mad).

    Well, I'd better go.

    TwoPaws,
    Shalakshmiyin

Alright, I'm pretty happy today, so was I yesterday. I finally got a chance to see the girl I have a little thing on, and she was quite pleased to see me too. Talked a bit, pretty happy, will keep going them! I need a drink to celebrate my happiness! :uhhuh: :drink:

hum hum stormwolf read in fear the bug fixed for the oldest patch

    Changes in version v1.01

    Major Bugs:
    • Fixed a crash bug that occurred upon entering the red Portal to the Canyon of the Magi, if a player had completed the Arcane Sanctuary quest, then saved and started a new game, before completing the Seven Tombs quest (Act II).
    • Fixed a multiplayer bug that prevented a character from completing the final quest in Act II (and advancing to Act III), when joining a game started by a character who had already defeated the final boss, but who had not yet visited Meshif for the reward.
    • Fixed a bug that prevented you from getting credit for killing a quest boss, if you died before it did -- perhaps, by killing it with a poisoned weapon.
    • Fixed a bug that could crash the game during the countdown after completing the final quest in Act IV, if the player used Waypoints to return to the earlier Acts.
    • Fixed a hang bug that could occur if picking up gold while fleeing from a Gargantuan Beast (Act I).
    • Fixed a crash bug that very rarely occurred when a Sorceress cast the Meteor spell.
    • Fixed the "black screen" crash that could occur if one pressed 'Alt-tab' during a cinematic.
    • A Multiplayer Install running DirectDraw will no longer crash when one cancels the Cinematic selection menu.
    • Fixed the following 3 bugs that could occasionally crash the game:
    • Killing Lord De Seis (Act IV).
    • In Perspective mode Glide entering a Tomb in the Canyon of the Magi (Act II).
    • A multiplayer party fighting in the Kurast Bazaar (Act III).
    • Fixed a bug that caused a quest item being held in the cursor to disappear when pressing the Horadric Cube's transmute button.
    • Fixed a bug that prevented two quest rewards from scaling up properly for Nightmare and Hell difficulty.
    • Sand Leaper corpses no longer prevent players from moving through a tight pass in the Act II desert.
    • Wounded Act II spiders no longer greatly reduce the frame rate.
    • Lower-titled characters may now join Open games created by higher-titled characters (those who have completed the game in Normal, Nightmare, or Hell difficulty).
    • Fixed a bug that prevented some complete Item Sets from having their full bonus.
    • Fixed a bug in Open battle.net games that allowed a second player to create another game with the same name as an already existing game. No one could join the second one.
    • Fixed a bug in TCP/IP games when a Town Portal was smothered in piles of gold, it could cause a player entering from the other end of the Portal to be disconnected from the Host.
    • Fixed a bug that prevented interacting with the Stash, NPCs, or Waypoints if the player clicked on the Stash, then pressed 'H' before arriving at the Stash, and finally pressed 'H' again after arriving at the Stash.

    Minor Bugs:
    • Removed an unused gossip from Ormus (Act III).
    • Fixed a bug where if the 'Space bar' were assigned to another function, it would erroneously continue to close the Message Log,
    • Quest Log, and Waypoint menu.
    • Fixed a bug that occasionally allowed some monsters to enter the Act II town of Lut Gholein.

    Improvements:
    • Improved the stability of the servers and the behavior of clients when a server malfunctions.
    • Changed the amount of gold dropped by a player who is killed by another player (PKed) to equal the amount that would normally be lost "to the void" as a death penalty when killed by a monster.
    • Updated the ReadMe.htm to document the PK gold-drop penalty.
    • Changed the text color for Blizzard Representatives in Diablo II chat rooms to yellow.
    • Australian users connect to the USWest Realm instead of the Asia Realm.

Lone_Wolf: Dude, we've gotta be on the same wavelength somewhere, as I JUST LOGGED ON to look for that info, and was about to ask where I could find it! You rock, man...a cider sans cactus on me. :D The bugs suck, though...*le sigh* Doubt I'll get much past Andy, though, so I'm not terribly worried about the other bugs. As it is, I'm counting down the days until we're done here, and I can continue to relevel my merc (lvl18, if I'm not mistaken, so it's been interesting...but I just hit lvl30, so in a way, I'm kind of leveling, m'self). Two of the highest points about heading home, though:

1.) I can submit my job applications with confidence, knowing I can just give 'em my home number instead of x-random cousin's number.

2.) MP games on the Expansion and ATMA. 'Nuff said.

3.) [hidden side bonus] It's warmer there, and I won't get any more obscenely early wakeup calls.

Also, I noticed in the bug listing that they didn't mention fixing the occasional lag bug...that always creeps me out, how I'll just be taking a swing...and next thing I know, I'm swarmed with Skelemages (and not a friendly Necro in sight!). Thoughts, anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

I'll take a cherry limeade, in lieu of the strawberry daiquiri, barkeep. It's good to see this place somewhat active. For a minute or two, I was worried the EMB would drop off the third page. :p

Great stuff, Lone_wolf. I had forgotten how buggy the original really was.

Lady Shalak, you should be able to download the patches you're interested in quite easily, and patch the copy up to 1.03 or 1.06. I'm not sure if any of the other versions are worth playing (although I think I spent a little time on 1.04 as well). If nothing else, you could try to download it with the computer you are using to read & post in the forums and copy them onto floppy to transfer if the computer you are using doesn't have internet access. (Do a dual install if you don't want to permanently upgrade their game).

I was fortunate enough to be able to play last night, although I only managed a little. I am hoping to have an hour or so tonight as well, so I can try to take my tourney character a bit further through Act I.

I would be surprised if the EMB drops off the third page during the week, particularly if either Shalak or Loney are around. :D

By the way, I forgot to welcome you to the bar, Tekka. Have this drink on me. :drink:

    <Yawn>
How is it only Thursday, it feels like it should be at least 2014. I HATE weeks like this. And its not even over yet. Damn VCE... at least it's the final year of high school, after that I only have ...another four years of Uni ..... which will cost me at least $40,000... damn.
Tragor, you can hold onto my hammer for a bit, I'm too tired to even think about taking it out on the pinball machine. Hey, I'm just typing this, I can do what I want without expending energy!
<Jumps up on a table, backflips off it and cresent-kicks the pinball machine into the air>

    *Materializes using Bar waypoint*

Ye Gods, I'm tired. Have to get off this 12-hour-work-per-day regime- or ditch family life alltogether. Together they're killing me.

What, no barman? Mmmm, let's see, must be able to find out.....

Ok, we put our glasses there, pull this lever marked "Amstel Gold", and hey presto! *Ogles half a dozen pints of premium extra-heavy beer* Goooood....

    *Drops over without touching beer*

"Wearily stumbles to the drink table after taking the waypoint"
    Lo... Sleepy... must get coff....
    "starts nodding"

"bangs his head painfully on the table"

Yes could I have some coffee?

"starts rummaging the beer storage while rubbing his forehead"

Darn, I didn't know EMB sold coffee in bottles

"stumbles into a corner clutching a dusty foreign dark lager"

    Oh almost forgot...
"inserts flawless gems into the counter"

Man that pit is hard... "starts mumbling about players 8 and principles"
