Enchant + Nova?

Enchant + Nova?

Hiya everyone, I'm new here, though I have been lurking for a few weeks... Anyways, my favourite D2 builds are the ones that are unpopular, and a little more difficult to play. Why? I have no idea. I'm not even so great or experienced a player. I guess I just have masochistic tendencies or something.

I was drawn to the idea of an enchantress. But Enchant is all fire damage, and FIs seem awfully common. So I need a backup skill. I play Single Player, and I hate depending on mercs, so it had to be an attack spell. I looked through some of my options... I've played a FO/FW sorc, and I didn't want another cold spell. I started looking into the lightning tree... Lightning and Chained Lightning looked nice, but the huge damage variation worried me, as did the amount of points they would need to power it up. I was leaning toward Thunderstorm, and started spending points toward it (one in charged bolt, static field, nova) when a thought hit me. I started to use Nova, since it was a pre-req for TS anyway, and I kinda liked the spell. So... what if I just used Nova as my backup?

I know Nova is pretty unpopular as a spell (which is probably one reason why I like it, lol). But what are some of the problems of Nova?
-Not as damaging as other popular attacks, due to no synergy.
-Need to be close to the enemy for best effect.
-Serious mana hog, will empty blue ball if spammed for a few seconds.

Then I thought a bit about the melee Enchantress build...
-Not so many spare points to have a synergised backup.
-Fights in close combat
-Only uses mana to recast Enchant every few minutes, and has max Warmth.

I dunno, to me it just seemed to make sense? Or am I just thoroughly insane?

Skill points placement is fairly straightforward...
20 Enchant
20 Warmth
20 Fire Mastery
20 Nova
20 Lightning Mastery
The rest in pre-requisites and some utility spells (frost nova, teleport, telekinesis all 1pt, static 3pt).

A bit tight with the points, I know. If need be, perhaps enchant doesn't have to be maxed until much later? Or perhaps LM can be sacrificed a little for a while? What do you guys think?

Stat points, would be about 60 strength (maybe more if armour or weapon demands it), maybe 90-120 dex or so, and the rest split bewteen vit and energy, biased toward vit (maybe 2:1 ratio). The extra mana is so I can use nova, static and teleport without having to drink potion after every cast. Hopefully I can wear some equipment to grant decent boosts to mana and life.

Equipment wise, I'll want a fast weapon with okay damage (doesn't have to be fantastic since much of the damage is from magic), preferably without terribly high requirements. If it could take advantage of the masteries, that'd be even better. Something like a Lightsabre seems good? If I could ever find one. Beyond that I don't really know so much of what gear I'll want. Something with +life and mana, a shield with high resists, some +skills, some stat bonus to dex... perhaps a Magefist, Raven Frost ring, a Bul Kathos/SoJ... Suggestions are welcome.

Well, that's the gist of my idea. Please I'd like to know what your thoughts are on this... I like to make things difficult for myself, but I would like to know if I at least stand a chance of getting past the Hell Blood Moor. Do you think this can work? Have you any changes, equipment suggestions, tips or anything to help make it work? Are you itching to supply me with a shrink's number? Your thoughts are most welcome (relevant thoughts are even better!).

I think that nova could work, though it won't kill at insane speed. I don't imagine that is your goal anyway if you are playing an enchantress. I'd suggest having fast cast weapon on switch when using nova. Nova will also work well for killing packs of FI which is key because your merc can easily dispatch single ones. I think it's definitely a better choice than thunderstorm because thunderstorm doesn't handle packs well.

I got a KILLER IDEA.
Get 1 point in frozen nova, 1 in CM. The rest put it all in normal enchantress skills, ES, enchant, etc.
Tele in close, FNova, Chill, enchant, tele out, tele in, FNova, Chill, enchant, over and over again.
Wouldn't that just might work though?

P.S. I guess FO would be much better with its Looooooooooooooooooooong cold duration.

I suggest a 'Black' Knout, at a STR requirement of 82 (which also lets you use the lightest Elite armors). Very fast, 40% CB and Corpse Explosion charges as icing on the cake. But I recommend it only if you like (or can cope with) Knockback, as that doesn´t get along with all players.

I would definately get something that has CBF (Raven Frost or a good 'Rhyme' shield.

I would ease up on the Nova/LM and pump Shiver Armor instead, and go with a Defiance mercenary. It won´t be hard that way to get several thousands of units in Defense.

your other option is to get tons of cold/light damage charms and boost your masteries. if your already maxing light mastery, having several light charms would almost be a necessity. but you could forgo the nova and focus on cold mastery. also works well if you manage to get a hold of Kingslayer.
