emotion vs reason

emotion vs reason

i have long "worshipped" and "glorified" reason. but than one day i had an apitheny:

with reason u can justify or explain anything. even the holocaust or darfur or murder or bush jr. 's (~2000-2009) IRAQ WAR or whatever vileness. anyone can do it if they try. you'll find a way to reason why it was neccessary or a good thing to do.

this greatly terrifies me, since it's so true.

reason allows u to give credit or value or goodness to the most uncreditable or most evil actions of man.

with reason, u can explain and justify the unexplainable and unjustifiably.

with reason, u can make evil be good.

than there's the matter of WHO'S REASON ?? my reason? your reason? his reason? her reason? their reason? our reason? we each have our own reason. my reason is different than your reason.

my conclusion:

reason is EVIL

now,

let's take a look at emotion:

sure, emotion can be faked.

but, real genuine emotion, is it to be ignored and regarded as unmeaningful ?

absolutely not !

first where does emotion come from ?

if/when u hear about an adult male raping a lil girl do u have the instant gut-feeling that it is wrong ? or some other thing that u find awful ?

why do u feel its wrong ?

i say, that this magical emotion, this magical gut feeling, this feeling of wrong, is the closest we can ever get to real truth. there's no reason or logic. it's just something magical. it's unexplainible. and when it is genuine and not faked, emotion is truth. reason is false.

emotion is not madness or insanity. true emotions, people being emotional, is truth. when some one is upset or angry it's ligitmate. when some one "feels" or has a "gut-feeling" it's legimate.

we don't know why people get the "gut-feeling" of wrong when using the example of adult male raping a lil girl, but we do, it comes from some where, but it doesnt come from reason, it comes from an absolute truth. we just know it.

now, i take emotional-panicky people seriously as they have more ligitimacy than the calmest most logical reasoning person.

the calmest most logical reasoning people scare me as they can justify and explain any action, no matter how inhumane it is.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
do NOT get me wrong though, emotions has it's own problems and many of them are the same problems as reason has.

for example:

for/to me, i feel pete rose should/is a hall of fame baseball player

others, may feel he's the "scum of the earth"

emotions differ just like reasons do from person to person.

but emotions has merit, reasons don't because of what i mentioned already.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
for me:

emotion > reason

emotion wins over reason
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
agree or disagree ?

which do u take more seriously?

emotion or reason ?

emotional-disturbed-panicky person or a calm-rational-logical-reasonable person ?

You'd rather people didn't think their actions through or ask questions before acting on information and instead just reacted?

If people acted solely on emotion, it would be chaos.
If people acted solely on reason, the world would be "perfect"

I think you're confusing the phrase 'to reason' with the phrase 'to rationalize'. While a less used definition of 'rationalize' is "to make rational", the most common imeaning is:
to devise superficially rational, or plausible, explanations or excuses for (one's acts, beliefs, desires, etc.), usually without being aware that these are not the real motives.

Reasoning is as subjective as emotion. I'd say the two aren't quite the polar opposites that people suggest they are.

Reason without skepticism is useless.
Emotion disregards skepticism a priori.

To act without skepticism is to be blind.
To act based on emotion is to be blind.

So the only way to "see" is to use reason with scepticism and the will to learn, eventhogh we are condemned to mistake.
To say it with Goethes words:
"the man fails as long as he tries"
("der Mensch irrt solang er strebt")

What if someone doesn't have that feeling? What if it "feels right" to them? Should they do it?

Reasoning is not the same thing as rationalizing.

Emotion is fickle. It is not to be disregarded, but it also not to be acted upon blindly.

Well if someone starts burning down libraries - specifically the one I work in, I reason I'll be out of a job soon, which makes me very emotional.

this is in conflict with legality (even the supreme court. a case came up and despite how vile it is they decided that only murder should equal "punishment murder", aka death penalty or capitol punishment, not rape of a child. they struck down the death penalty for child rapists. i think i heard it right anyways), but it is my view:

they should be shot on the spot. people who even feel it's alright to rape a lil girl don't deserve to breath on the same planet as me and the rest of humanity. i have no forgiveness or mercy for those who choose to do wrong. and there's not more wrong to me than raping a lil girl and also one who feels that it is alright to and not wrong.

reasoning or rationalizing...whatever the right word....hopefully everyone knew what i ment (i hope).

i now don't think it's fickle, but that's me. you think it is fickle and i don't. different views.

Shot on the spot... that kind of exposes the hole in your entire reasoning. Think about it.

there's no flaw in my emotion and/or reasoning that raping a lil girl is inhumane and deserves nothing less than death. i'm adament. there's no way i'll ever think or change my mind about this. raping a lil girl IS WRONG and i'll continue to feel this way even after i die. for all eternity. my unwavering and granite view. this is absolute to me.

HegemonKhan, I'm sure someone's already tried and pointed it out to you, but would you be so awfully kind to use capitals and punctuation marks? I don't expect the Queen's English from anyone, but it would make your posts considerably more readable to begin with. It's appreciated.

Re: emotion vs reason

sorry, but it's all the fault of the internet....gotten very lazy and sloppy...

i actually once had really good grammer and spelling abilities....but i haven't been constantly practicing (writing scholarly work everyday) keeping up my skill...and it is now completely gone as u can see.

**i always hated writing and english classes...**

**honors math and science person...at least i was...**

HK < a very lazy american, especially with the english language. i don't care about all the silly rules of english and its grammer and all that...pfftt... sorry for making any english teachers cringe, but i aint one and have no intention of ever caring about silly grammer and an old fashion set of rules...punctuazation..capitolization...a silly game for u english language linguists :p
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
i will try to write better (at least try to write more clear sentences), but capitolization....don't really see the point.

if u can't stand my awful grammer or writing than simply don't read my posts... V.V

Wait, did you just use reasoning here?

So doesn't that make you evil?

And please don't assume you're always right. That's just arrogant.

i AM an american...it's in my "dna" to be arrogant :D

*MY VIEW* that the raping of a lil girl as abhorant is NON-negotiatable.

and this view is entirely based on emotion. every fiber of my being tells my that the rape of a lil girl is abhorant. i ahve no need for reason/rationale, it just is. i don't know why and i don't care. every fiber of my being tells me that IT IS WRONG and deserves nothing less than death.

My view is that people who tailgate are abhorrent and deserve to be executed via a red hot poker rammed up their anus. I have no reason or rationale, it just is.
