Elemental Immune?

Elemental Immune?

So I have always been a fan of resists - I would always choose to max resists before any other stat. And after reading up a bit, it looks like the Avenger could be the ultimate resist machine. Here is what I'm thinking.

75/75/75/75 - unmodified
90/90/90/90 - with Guardian Angel
90/90/90/95 - with Andy Visage (would be immune! - stupid cap)
95/95/95/95 - 10 points in each resist aura

Add Raven Frost = 20% Cold absorb
Add Dwarf Star = 15% Fire Absorb
Add Hellmouth gloves = 15% Fire Absorb
Add Thundergods = 20% Lightning Absorb (also 10 max resist - stupid cap!)
Add Nord's = 15% Cold Absorb
-OR-
Add Lightsabre = 25% Lightning Absorb

Shield will (of course) be HoZ
Ultimate Ammy would (of course) be Mara's (resists and skills are too good)
For boots I'm thinking Gore Rider (no good boots with absorb)

Is this resist overkill? With slvl 20 Holy Shield, I think this build could be the hardest thing to hit ever. I worry that there might be better equipment options out there with dual leech or IAS, AR, etc... I'm not too concerned with +skill gear. I'll let the casters out there stress over that.

Oh, and for reference, here is the skill build of this char:

20 Vengence
20 Conviction
10 Resist Fire
10 Resist Cold
10 Resist Lightning
20 Holy Shield (more like "rest" as I tend to get to clvl 85 and get bored)

Where would you be getting all of the original resistances?

Charms? Um runes? Resist jewels?

You said 75/75/75/75 unmodified, but the gear you list doesn't provide resists aside from:

HoZ: 69-72% (PDia/Um respectively)
Mara's: 20-30%
Andy's Visage: Poison Resist +70%/Fire Resist -30%

...I think thats it, unless you have a ton of resistances from charms... since you'd be using conviction, all you'd have is a lot of absorb, I don't see how you'd get your resistances even above 75 in hell, let alone 95... unless you Um the hell out of your equipment, and then get a ton of charms... *shrug*

check my math on this one...

Example:

Nasty cold sorc slams you for 10,000 cold damage
95 Resist Cold takes that down to 500
But wait - you have 35% Cold Absorb. So of that 500, 175 will heal you instead of hurt you (essentially removing another 350 damage)

So with a 10,000 hp cold blast, you have taken a grand total of 150 damage

HOLY CRUSADER!

Hmmm... good point.

So how about Crown of Ages instead of Andarials - and I probably will Um both the crown and the shield (perhaps the guardian angel as well) - that would be +52 (3 ums) +50 (HoZ) +20-30 (Crown) +28 (already have my Mara)

That would give 150-160 resist all
how much natural resist all do you get from the act 5 quest again?
this should be close to getting 95/95/95/90, no?

Raven and Dwarf are still 15/20% absorb (which is good)

So maybe I was too enthusiastic... but that is why you all are here

You might want to put 20 points in defiance for the synergy bonus to holy shield. I think avengers are good for tanking because you don't need to max an attack skill to be effective unlike other builds, so that frees up those 20 points to put in defiance.

Also out of curiousity, what other absorb items are there? Could someone list them all?

Are there any other cold absorb items besides ravenfrost and nord's? I already have the cbf mod on my kira's and all the other mods on ravenfrost aren't so important for avenger besides cold absorb. I don't really have any resist charms so I probably won't switch out the kira's.

I think I might try this but if you want to take the idea further and throw in dmg reduction, this might be a doable setup if you get a few resist charms:

Helm: Rockstopper for resists and 10% dmg reduction
Armor: Shaftstop for 30% dmg reduction
Amulet: Rising Sun for scaling fire absorb
Belt: T-god's for lightning absorb
Ring: Ravenfrost for cbf and cold absorb

You could use Blackhorn's and switch out T-god's for String of Ears or Verdungo's. That probably works better except I think masks are fugly, heh. I guess you could use a Dwarf Star to free up the amulet slot for Mara's or whatever. I wouldn't use gloves for fire absorb because I think Dracul's are too good to replace.

No skill bonuses though unless you go with Dwarf/Mara's, so getting an HoZ is pretty crucial.

problem is that this build is centered around guardian angel. switching it out for shaftstop doesn't make any sense. you could use a stormshield instead of Hoz though if you are going for 50% dam reduction. add a rockstopper and something else to get to your max there. (hard to justify switching out the hoz though, don't ya think?)

and why would I not max vengence if I am an Avenger? What is the current accepted skill set up for an avenger? I thought it was:

20 Vengence
20 Conviction
10 Each resist aura
20 Holy Shield

Oops sorry I was thinking about a variant which I play, elemental zealot. Check ash2ash's guide, basically you only put one point in zeal. Dracul's probably wouldn't work for a pure evenger, so you could mix and match even more.

Do not waste Um's on CoA (and any helm or armor). Use equivalent jewels. Or at least 10+ resist jewels.
