    ED jewels

its common knowledge that jewels can be socketed in any socketable item and you get their mods
    what about ED jewels?
ive heard that if you put them into armors you dont get the enhanced damage
is it true? or is it only crap?

    thanx in advance

there's a bug but it has to do with ed being socketed after min/max jewels IIRC.
dont really know alot about it.
but AFAIK ED in non-weapon spots is poor anyway

Fully agree here. Armor socket is best to be used for resist/IAS/MF.

+x % Enhanced Damage jewels in weapons enhances the weapon damage directly, but if you place the jewels in armor/shield/helm, the bonus will be added along with stats-bonus and skills.

If a jewel adds both ed% and min dmg, the ed% will only affect the max dmg.
If a jewel has both ed% and max dmg, the ed% only affects the min dmg.

note: the bug occurs on every - armor/shield/helm/boots/.. that have both +EDam% and +min (or max) damage modificators. (The bug is not caused by jewel itself)

I might be reading this wrong, but it would appear by this statement that ED jools would do more in armor/shield/helm than in weapon because it takes into account the other things (stats-bonus and skills).

    Wrong.
Weapon damage = base weapon damage enhanced by ED% on the weapon + all +min/max damage (from both weapon and non-weapon sources)
Final physical damage= Weapon damage enhanced by (ED% from skills + ED% from non-wepon sources + STR(DEX) bonus + ED% from Aura skills)

I might forget something, but this is the main idea...
So if you place +ED% jewels in weapon, generally the final damage will be much higher.

Ok I am not 100% sure but i think this is how it works: Not all the bonuses are multiplicative. The bonuses from skills (like frenzy/ww/zerk and the appropriate weapon mastery for a barb) get added up and not multiplied with each other, and than the sum of them is multiplied with the weapon's ed%. so 2 skills giving 200% each, and a 100% ed weapon would be a (200/100+200/100+1)*(100/100+1) = 10 multiplier to the weapon's base damage.
Now if you have a 10ED jewel and socket it into your weapon, your weapons ed will be 110, so the total bonus is now 5*2.1 = 10.5
If you socket it into the armor it adds to the skill bonus which is typically larger, in our example it would result in a multiplier of 5.1*2 = 10.2 (so you would lose 0.3 times the weapon's base damage as compared to socketing it to the weapon).
Of course if your weapon's ED would happen to be larger than your total skill (+synergy + etc.) +damage%, than it would be better to socket the jewel into the armor, but that almost never occures in the case of a melee built.
(and non-melee builds dont use such jewels)
sure hope i am not mistaken.

edit: sorry didnt see Hrus post, it appeared while i was typing.
