E3 2005

I don't see an E3 thread, surprised we don't have one

anybody there?

I've only very general news to share

PS3, Xbox 360, and Nintento Revolution have all been confirmed to feature backwards compatibility meaning

PS3 will play PS1 & PS2 games
Xbox 360 will play Xbox games
Revolution will play Gamecube games

there've been plenty other announcements but this is what has my attention, what exciting things have you heard?

Fallen said that he was going to be there and give a report when he returned.

I saw today on Tech TV there was no official mention of backwards compatibility for XBOX 360. I'm going to buy a midnight XBOX 360 but I'm going to bet PS3 will be better.

The PS3 looks amazing, so much raw power. I wonder how they plan to make it affordable.
the PS3 is really winning me over, and backwards compatibility for Xbox360 has my interest as I'd like to go back and play all the Xbox games I missed, I'm thinking I'd get Xbox360 at launch and wait 'til mid-late 2006 on PS3 until Sony is tired of shipping defective units and pick up a PS3 then

gamespot has an article on FF XI coming to Xbox360 and news about backwards compatibility and the current development of 160 games of which 40 may be ready by launch, don't know if it's a competing website, but it's on the front page in the news column

I think the release games for XBOX 360 are being rushed a little much and I hope the there are little to no load times and lots of seamless levels. I don't think there will be a major hike in graphics.

Initial expectations are XBOX 360 (to me) will be a DreamCast.

Where did you read/hear about backwards compatibility?

*Edit - I see.

I don't own an X-Box now, but I'd be interested in picking up a new X-Box system with all of this. I missed some of the games that I could otherwise playing.

hold up... Gamespot reported something quite different than IGN

IGN said:
Xbox 360 officially will be backward compatible with the prior system's top-selling games, said Microsoft's Vice President Peter Moore. Microsoft will pick and choose only the most popular Xbox titles from its huge backlist of games and will most likely use emulator software for those limited titles.
that's pretty lame...

I'm really looking forward to the E3 reports this year. I can't wait to see what kind of games will be coming out for the new systems (hopefully they have some previews lined up). I'm mainly interested in any new RPGs and MMORPGs coming out for whichever system, new or old.

As for which new system I'd like to get...it'd probably have to be the PS3, but it really depends on which system has the titles I'd want to play. But, then again it doesnt really matter anyway since I most likely wont have the money to buy a new console right when it comes out, and I can probably find PC titles I'd want to play instead. I'm just hoping that PS2 game prices will go down so I can go back and buy some of the games that I wasnt able to buy previously.

I'm not sure what I would buy. I like the idea of the X360, but I don't know about the idea of only limited support for old games. PS3, not sure. I will probably avoid the nintendo system, as the Gamecube has limited support.

Can someone please explain to me all these technical specs on these new systems?

It depends on which titles are on the systems, but I must say I have been a playstation junkie so far. I have had a Playstation 1, have a Playstation 2 and will probably end up buying Playstation 3 as well. So far there has been great RPG titles for Playstation which has been a main selling point to me.

Yep, FFXI is coming to Xbox, and I'm not quite sure on the backward compatability. I watched the press conference feed last night, but it was pretty jumpy, and it was really bad in the part where they were talking about backward compatability. :(

I'm gonna buy a 360 for sure, the question will just be when. The Xbox is imcomparable in terms of networking. I like that I'll be able to get video messages from my friends while I'm watching a DVD.

Oh, and I'm 99% sure they said the Xbox will work as a DVR as well. Although it may only work if you're actually watching the show, so you can't watch one and record another, but you definitely can record TV on there somehow.

E3 does have a PC/Mac area, but consoles grab all the media.
Actually i kinda disagree with that. Whenever i think E3 i think of all the new PC hardware/software that are shown off there. New games unveiled, really really loud music, kick ass hardware. Good times. Either way PC's will always dominate consoles and spank them in the ass on their way out.
