{E-SC-L} Crawlingdeadman's Level 30 Tournament. With prizes!

howdy. once again i've taken on the task of organizing a lld tourney. it has challenged me a lot trying to figure out a system that is both fair and fun. the only experience i've had doing a tourney of this type was the last one i posted here. to that end please bear with me. ask any and all questions you have. i tried to think of this from several different angles but i know i didnt think of everything. due to the round robin structure and the complications that would arise from allowing multiple entries per person i've decided to nix that idea for this tourney. there will, however be two categories this time melee and ranged/caster so feel free to enter one character into each.

Structure
- 15 life sc buy in will be paid to me before any dueling starts.
- level 30 max
- there will be two categories meleé and ranged/caster
- only one entry per category this time around
- each person entered will duel every other person once (round robin)
- 1v1 duels first to win 3 duels wins the match. final round will be first to 5 wins.
- the four people with the best record will go on to a final round
- if there are several people with the same record a round of tiebreakers may be necessary, though i'm looking into methods of determining results without another round. if anyone has suggestions, please lmk.
- the two groups of two will duel in a single elimination bracket based on their records in the first round of the tourney (ie the top two will duel each other and the next two will duel each other).
- the winners of that round will duel to determine 1st and 2nd place
- the losers of those matches will then duel each other to determine 3rd and 4th place.

Prizes!
- first place will receive a 6 month bronze membership supplied by me (if someone who's already a pal wins i will renew their membership when the current one expires. in the event that a higher level than bronze pal wins, i will renew it at the same approximate dollar value).
- small charm prizes will be awarded to the top four participants.
- the actual amount of each prize will be decided when the total number of entries is known. i will post them the day the first round starts.

Banned Skills (ranged/caster category)
- holy freeze
- all curses except lower resist and amp (including ctc)
- bone prison (wall is fine)
- clay golem
- slow missiles
- bone armor may not be recast

Banned Skills (meleé category)
- same as above
- all traps
- thorns
- all summons aside from oak sage and heart of wolverine

Banned Items
- no item with slow by % (cleg gloves for example)
- no potions of any kind (life, mana, cold, stamina, antidote)
- no hacked, duped, bugged items (bmana for instance)
- no item with %maxed res may be used (no resistance stack limit)
- peace rune word may not be used vs an opponent using a ranged missile attack

Other rules
- no nk (i wasnt even going to mention it but i thought i'd better)
- all duels take place in blood moor in act 1 normal
- blood moor must be cleared of all monsters before a match starts
- both participants say "ready" when they are ready and then "go" before duel commences
- no stash prebuffing (you may only buff from items on switch or that you have in your inventory).
- no mercs at any time
- no excessive running to regenerate life
- no shrines or wells may be used
- you may not leave the game once a duel starts, doing so is automatic duel loss. if you fail to return within 10 minutes you lose the match
- you may leave and rejoin game for charge bug or anya bug but only between duels
- take screenshots in case of disagreement
- if asked to show gear (including charms) you must comply without going back to stash. failure to do so means being dropped from the tournament.
- either the winner or loser of the match will post the result within one day of the match taking place
- when the matchings are posted each participant will have 3 days to get in contact with their opponent and agree on a time to duel within 5 days

i consider meleé to be an attack that requires AR to hit and the duel takes place while standing still (except for stepping away to reposition). there can be a case made for smite and charged strike, but whirlwind and charge are not meleé, they are ranged. at this time i'd like to open discussion on smite and charge strike and any other auto hit attacks i may have missed as to whether or not they should be allowed. i personally think that charged strike has always been more of a part of a caster type build. despite its auto hitting nature i run up against smiters on a regular basis so have less of a problem with them, however these two skills are similar enough that i feel they should be put together. give me a good reason to allow one but not the other. as of now i'm leaning toward neither being allowed for simplicity's sake.

we all have lives outside of d2 so while i'd love for this tournament to take place in one day i realize this will be impossible. we will begin duels Saturday, June 16th. we will finish one round before starting the next. people may enter up until Friday, June 15th.

when you sign up pm me the name and pass of a mule account with a 15 life sc on it or get in touch with me in game. i dont want to have to chase you down. this is your entry fee and if i dont receive it before Saturday, then you're dropped from the tournament. i'd thought about (based on fed's suggestion) allowing a hr entry fee, but i would rather you use that hr to get a useful item so the winners dont have to worry about perming.

this tournament will be 90% on your honor, if there is a problem with a duel/match pm me and you will reduel with a judge (me). save all your pm's back and forth to one another just in case of a disagreement. if you dont have proof of a claim then there's nothing i can do. screen shots are also recommended.

if anyone thinks of something else please post here now. get the word out i know a lot of people who dont regularly check the pvp forum but duel daily, if you see this let them know.

You should probably mention the levels this is taking place at. I happen to know those are your level 30 chars so...

Just a small nitpick, but the accent in mêlée is on the wrong "e".

Good luck with your tournament.

This is all in my opinion and subject to Crawl's judgement. If you want to stack it you're welcome to. Every sol is a socket not filled with a pskull or a shael, which is usualy a better choice.

No rules on Sols, DR, %dr?
are you going to suggest any? maybe you could tell me why i should have them? your little post there helps me not one damn bit. i've read rules for tourneys and events but since most of them were made years before i knew what lld meant i dont know the reason they were made. i understand that a crap ton of DR will killl a smiter (and possibly any build that relys more on crushing blow than straight up damage), but there arent any smiters on here now are there? what's the reason popular sites dont allow rockfleece and soe at the same time? I DONT KNOW.

there are a bunch of rules i could add, but until i see the need, why bother? i was trying to get my "friendly tourney with prizes" idea across. if someone wants to be an a-hole and ruin the fun aspect by exploiting my brief rules then i should just give up eh?

please, everyone from now on if you're going to point out a deficiency, post a bit more info such as why it's bad and a solution to the problem.

Just a small nitpick, but the accent in mêlée is on the wrong "e".
hrm yes. well i've posted a response to you twice and thought better of it both times and deleted it. what they boiled down to was you should follow me around and spell check all of my threads. it'll give you something to do all day every day. grammer check too please
Good luck with your tournament.

I think the reason Rockfleece is usually considered BM when worn with SoEs is because it negates a lot of damage. However, I see it no different than using sorb vs. casters. You have to sacrifice SOMETHING in order to get that reduction of damage. Also, the defense isn't exactly high on the armor. Sure, you may take less damage, but there's a good chance you'll take more hits.

Personally, I see no reason to limit it, but that's just me. As for Sols, like Fed said, go right ahead. Personally, I'd rather you either up your damage by nine or reduce it by 7, instead of doing something that may actually make it harder to beat you.

In regards to smite/cs, they are auto-hit skills. That right there makes them more closely related to caster skills than melee (oh ****, no accent mark) skills. Don't get me wrong, I love my hld smiter, but I'd never try to pass him off as melee. I don't think it's really ranged either, but it's totally not melee. As for CS, it fires lightning bolts... that sure seems like a ranged attack to me.

Given an average physical damage of 1000 before pvp penalties and the defender is using a 15% dr string, adding a sol'd rockfleece lowers total damage taken by ~40.

Dependant on timing, I may be up for some melee action. I am overdue for a rebuild, and am waiting on a certain elusive range 5 weapon, but wth. If I'm rebuilt in time, slap me down.

Well, a caster loses out on viper and a melee char loses out on a whole lot of sockets and therefore damage. Seems like a fair trade to me.

i play on scl west and since there seems to be no interest in lld, i might just have to catch some action on east, but i don't think i'll make this one on time.

i've never played on east before, so i'll have to start from scratch to build a large fund for trading to get my character ready for the next tourney.

sounds like fun though
