{E-SC-L} Crawlingdeadman's Level 30 Tournament. With prizes!
howdy. once again i've taken on the task of organizing a lld tourney. it has challenged me a lot trying to figure out a system that is both fair and fun. the only experience i've had doing a tourney of this type was the last one i posted here. to that end please bear with me. ask any and all questions you have. i tried to think of this from several different angles but i know i didnt think of everything. due to the round robin structure and the complications that would arise from allowing multiple entries per person i've decided to nix that idea for this tourney. there will, however be two categories this time melee and ranged/caster so feel free to enter one character into each.
Structure
- 15 life sc buy in will be paid to me before any dueling starts.
- level 30 max
- there will be two categories meleé and ranged/caster
- only one entry per category this time around
- each person entered will duel every other person once (round robin)
- 1v1 duels first to win 3 duels wins the match. final round will be first to 5 wins.
- the four people with the best record will go on to a final round
- if there are several people with the same record a round of tiebreakers may be necessary, though i'm looking into methods of determining results without another round. if anyone has suggestions, please lmk.
- the two groups of two will duel in a single elimination bracket based on their records in the first round of the tourney (ie the top two will duel each other and the next two will duel each other).
- the winners of that round will duel to determine 1st and 2nd place
- the losers of those matches will then duel each other to determine 3rd and 4th place.
Prizes!
- first place will receive a 6 month bronze membership supplied by me (if someone who's already a pal wins i will renew their membership when the current one expires. in the event that a higher level than bronze pal wins, i will renew it at the same approximate dollar value).
- small charm prizes will be awarded to the top four participants.
- the actual amount of each prize will be decided when the total number of entries is known. i will post them the day the first round starts.
Banned Skills (ranged/caster category)
- holy freeze
- all curses except lower resist and amp (including ctc)
- bone prison (wall is fine)
- clay golem
- slow missiles
- bone armor may not be recast
Banned Skills (meleé category)
- same as above
- all traps
- thorns
- all summons aside from oak sage and heart of wolverine
Banned Items
- no item with slow by % (cleg gloves for example)
- no potions of any kind (life, mana, cold, stamina, antidote)
- no hacked, duped, bugged items (bmana for instance)
- no item with %maxed res may be used (no resistance stack limit)
- peace rune word may not be used vs an opponent using a ranged missile attack
Other rules
- no nk (i wasnt even going to mention it but i thought i'd better)
- all duels take place in blood moor in act 1 normal
- blood moor must be cleared of all monsters before a match starts
- both participants say "ready" when they are ready and then "go" before duel commences
- no stash prebuffing (you may only buff from items on switch or that you have in your inventory).
- no mercs at any time
- no excessive running to regenerate life
- no shrines or wells may be used
- you may not leave the game once a duel starts, doing so is automatic duel loss. if you fail to return within 10 minutes you lose the match
- you may leave and rejoin game for charge bug or anya bug but only between duels
- take screenshots in case of disagreement
- if asked to show gear (including charms) you must comply without going back to stash. failure to do so means being dropped from the tournament.
- either the winner or loser of the match will post the result within one day of the match taking place
- when the matchings are posted each participant will have 3 days to get in contact with their opponent and agree on a time to duel within 5 days
i consider meleé to be an attack that requires AR to hit and the duel takes place while standing still (except for stepping away to reposition). there can be a case made for smite and charged strike, but whirlwind and charge are not meleé, they are ranged. at this time i'd like to open discussion on smite and charge strike and any other auto hit attacks i may have missed as to whether or not they should be allowed. i personally think that charged strike has always been more of a part of a caster type build. despite its auto hitting nature i run up against smiters on a regular basis so have less of a problem with them, however these two skills are similar enough that i feel they should be put together. give me a good reason to allow one but not the other. as of now i'm leaning toward neither being allowed for simplicity's sake.
we all have lives outside of d2 so while i'd love for this tournament to take place in one day i realize this will be impossible. we will begin duels Saturday, June 16th. we will finish one round before starting the next. people may enter up until Friday, June 15th.
when you sign up pm me the name and pass of a mule account with a 15 life sc on it or get in touch with me in game. i dont want to have to chase you down. this is your entry fee and if i dont receive it before Saturday, then you're dropped from the tournament. i'd thought about (based on fed's suggestion) allowing a hr entry fee, but i would rather you use that hr to get a useful item so the winners dont have to worry about perming.
this tournament will be 90% on your honor, if there is a problem with a duel/match pm me and you will reduel with a judge (me). save all your pm's back and forth to one another just in case of a disagreement. if you dont have proof of a claim then there's nothing i can do. screen shots are also recommended.
if anyone thinks of something else please post here now. get the word out i know a lot of people who dont regularly check the pvp forum but duel daily, if you see this let them know.
