Duriel by-pass for weak chars

I didn't think it would work, but I figured why not try it. My weak necro (saving all skill points for fun hehe) had no chance against Duriel, so after activating the quest and clearing out the right tomb I left the game, brought in my lvl 40 Barb and killed Duriel. Left immediately, brought back the necro. The quest window shows the usual "unable to complete this quest in this game because another player completed it" *BUT* just go back to Duriels chamber and talk to Tyrael. This gets you Talk to Jaerhyn inthe Quest box. Do that, and you get Talk to Meshif. Do that - and you get Quest completed. Feels great never to have to sweat against Duriel, just bring in your favourite later-level henchman to do the job :)

Indeed, it's a nice strat. I used to do it all the time when I was rushing multiple characters, since it allowed me to get quite a few characters past act 2 without even needing to actually have a high level character in.

Also interesting is that going from memory the same applies to everyone in town who needs the quest (as long as they're all in the same party). Only 1 person who needs the quest needs to talk to Tyrael, even if everyone in town has the "unable to complete quest", since they'll all just get the "talk to ..." quest update afterwards.

The "talk to Tyrael but don't kill Duriel yourself" method of finishing A2 is commonly used in single-player hellforge rushing, to get 8 characters at a time forward instead of the usual 7.

You also don't need the Arcane Sanctuary/Summoner quests, just get yourself to the tomb.

I'll look at the link above as it may speed my forge running, but I have a question about the second thing.

Don't you need a rusher for every other part of the game and also for getting to the tomb in the first place? How does the fact that you don't need the rusher present in the game at the time that the rushees advance to act 3 help you rush for forges faster? Characters cannot enter the Durance of Hate 3 via a tp unless they were present when the council died, so how can you advance 8 characters at that point?

I don't have a rusher that can handle everything without any difficulty at all, so I usually use my Meteorb for teleporting and my fury druid for killing the council, duriel and sometimes hephasto since my sorc has trouble with some of that in full games.

That is correct. If you are rushing a full game (7 players) only 1 will ever need to actually get the quests in act 2 to be able to move on to act 3. All of act 2 quests can be bugged (including the skill quest IIRC. Only 1 player that needs the quest must be there when he dies). This is very helpfull for HC chars since you never need to try and dodge Duriel while the rusher is killing him. Just wait outside the tomb until he is dead.

Nice guide. I was/am actually working on a guide to cover all acts (quest that can be bugged and how) as well as how to do it fast and efficient, but atm it's on hold since I play very little D2. Hopefully I can post it here sometime :nod:

You don't need them, but that means walking from the arcane wp since you can't enter canyone of the magi. A good rush will do those two quests faster than walking to the tomb ;)

Well, if someone else is getting rushed and you just happened to be in the game they usually won't care about you :(
