Dumb Newbie Questions

i bought diablo II and the expansion in thailand and so the manual is in thai which i cannot read...blizzard will not send me one in english so i am kind of at a loss...i dont know how to combine runes into words for instance and i sure dont know how all the people on these forums get to such high levels...i took a barbarian to level 39 and for each level after that i have to kill everthing in the fourth scene more than ten times...what i am i missing with these two things? is there any way for me to get a english manual by email?

Are you playing single player or are you online? I am guessing single player. Are you lvl 39 and stuck in normal act 4? If you have defeated diablo, talk to Tyreal (the angel) and he will let you go to Act 5. If you have tried this, are you sure the xpac cd loaded correctly becuase you should be act5 or in nightmare at that level?

You say you are playing a barbarian. If you check out that forum there is some good info.

yup, playing single since the connections in thailand suck and are too expensive anyway...i havent killed diablo yet...i am trying to get my lvl up so i have a chance...i also started an druid character since i forgot to try the cow realm and want to do that...

how do you guys get your levels, str, dex, etc up so high?

are there rune words in the single game? how do i find them?

Yup, make sure you d/l the latest patch too, otherwise you'll be looking at some of the previously mentioned sites thinking "wtf are synergies" ;)

Just to give a quick simple synopsis on runewords, i'll say this.
Runewords are formed by putting a certain number of runes into a socketed item in a specific order. Take the runeword "Black" for example. This runeword consists of the runes "Thul" "Io" "Nef". They require that they be put into 3 socket Hammers/Clubs/Maces and in that specific order (Thul, Io, Nef) for it to work.

The ones below "Stone" only work online, sorry :(

As far as the higher levels go, once you beat Act 5 you'll be able to go into Nightmare (The next difficulty level of the game) and play the game all over again with the same character. Except this time around it'll be harder.

In Version 1.10, if you can get your character through Nightmare in single player, then that'll be an accomplishment. Blizzard has made the next difficulty leve, Hell, much harder than it was in 09 and almost impossible to beat by yourself, especially when you're in Single Player and have only the items which you find yourself.

Most of the people on these forums play online and have access to very powerful items through the use of trading. The trading system is totally screwed up in my oppinion, but some people really enjoy spending hours on end trying to trade their stuffs.

If you're currently level 39 and have yet to actually try fighting Diablo, then i think you should give it a shot. You should have a decent chance at beating him at that level. Just remember that when you get to him to take your time. You're not on a time limit, so even if it takes like 10 or 15 minutes of chipping away at him, then just take that time and do it. That's how I had to do it when I first took on Diablo in single player :)

I hope I was able to clear a few things up, and I also hope that you enjoy playing D2 :)

EDIT: When it comes to newbie questions, we enjoy them once in a while. They give us a break from having to use extensive equations to explain the physics of how an amulet may affect the overall fury damage of a wolf with base dex.

Arreat Summit is good for numbers and statistics but ignore all the skill descriptions outside of getting a basic idea of what a skill is supposed to do. Some of those are 4-5 versions out of date. Most of the rune words are going to be too hard to get in single player unless you get lucky on your Hell Forge runs.
