    Dude, I can flush now!

New septic tank pump installed this morning finally. We've been living like cave people for nearly two weeks. Boys going to the bathroom outside, not flushing the toilet until it was really bad news, 3-minute showers (or none at all at home, I took mine at work), washing dishes in a basin and dumping the washwater outside, laundromat for clothes...what a blast! Just like camping out!

Do yourselves a favor when you go looking for a house. Get one with town sewage instead of a septic. Or rent instead.

Yeah my aunt had that problem once. We had a saying about the house. If it's yellow let it mellow, if it's brown flush it down. Needless to say, I thought it was gross.

I remember a pipe burst in our house a couple of weeks ago, that sucked because we couldn't use our water for like 3 days for a plumber to come out. My Dad was gone 2 of those 3 days so it was just me.

In a manner of speaking. It's a ridiculous setup, really, but the only viable one. I have to pump from my tank, right outside the back of the house (underground of course) up the steep hill of my back yard, a rise of about 35 vertical feet, 200 feet up into our upper field. Which also is where the septic fields are.
So, yeah, the mound is actually a one-acre hill, if you look at it that way.

I'm quite confused here. I would have sworn the question was directed to me, but hey, whatever makes it work for you.
This isn't like that movie with Ahnuld in it, where I go home tonight and you've taken over my life, is it?

Yes, NB, I have town water, as does anyone within a good distance of my house.

A lot of industrial/ chemical facilities have showers--in the event you get something nasty on you you can quickly wash it off.

Septic tanks do indeed suck. I would not recommend anyone having to deal with them, unless there's some other good reason to get the house.

95% of the homes we build have septic tanks. And 95% of them never have any problems. Theres noone to blame but the health department, they have final say. Most of our homeowners that "do" have probmes were to stubborn to listen to the backhoe operator who dug it, and didnt go above and beyond with drainage ditches, and extra tanks, etc..they just complain when something goes wrong.
But like in Mixed case..he probably bought this home...and inherited the problem. If thats true...it truly sucks. Perhaps call the health department and ask questions in what you can do to go above what needs to be done..and weigh out what might be some possibilites.

    Hi,

This posting reminded me of a program I channel surfed passed on the Discovery Channel last night. It was about a sewage farm where the exit pipe from the effuelent pond was broke and some poor bloke in scuba gear had to dive into pond and fix it.

Not a job for the faint hearted.

    Regards
    Syxx
