Dual Spirit for a Hammerdin?

Ok, after 12 levels on my new Hammerdin I stopped and realized how dumb it was to build this on NL. :doh:

So after a quick rebuild on Ladder (first char on the new ladder btw) and doing a load of Baal runs, he's at 42 and ready to try nightmare.

I was thinking about making a Spirit shield when the time comes to hunt around in Hell for a good base resists pally shield, but I was wondering why not get a 4os Sword to make a second Spirit in? I'm sure there are better hammerdin weapons, but with the lower runes, I know getting a Spirit together is achievable for a 'first ladder char'.

Any reasons NOT to do this? I'm only seeing good benefits so far, +4 skills (more hammer damage), FCR, FHR, Resists, Missile Defense, +mana.... anything I'm not seeing here?

Keep in mind, this is for a first ladder char, so he only has what he has found for gear. I'm more looking at items that I can make/find myself until such time as better gear can be traded/found.

Dual Spirits is an awesome way to go. I know more then enough people who have done so until the likes of Wizzy, or Hoto came there way.

I would however just make a Spirit in the first shield you can, and then use it till you can get a better, more ideal base (Scared Targe with 40+).

scratchdtwo, I am currently running dual Spirits for a hammy. Not sure why I didn't think of it sooner :thumbup:, with such a low rune cost. But I love it, although you do give up some on the res.

Dual spirits are a great and cheap way to go for a hammerdin. only reason not to use them is if you plan to get better resistance, so you use a wizardspike which has better fcr as well or a hoto which is a way better caster weapon but a tad expensive on ladder. and if you are not worried about max fcr and rather have more damage you can get a hoz in future.
