Druid Werebear - maximizing potential

Hello fellow posters!

Haha it has been sometime since I have posted on these forums. I do apologize! Unfortunately, I got very sick and took a break from pc gaming. Anyways fired up the Diablo 2 this last week. I had just made my first Pat before my life went on "pause" haha. I decided to go and start fresh a Druid, for several reasons, but main would have to be wanting to maximize the sheer power of the wearbear. RobbyD, when we were discussing different builds and such, directed me to a werewolf guide website.

The website is amazing though it had left me wondering, which is the best patch to play the Druid on? My understanding is 1.07 is the best patch for the Druid? 1.09 really stinks with the level 20 cap on HoW. I was wondering if the newer patches 1.10 and above, have helped or hindered the druid?

I had made a 1.07 druid a week ago but after getting him to level 15, I went to backup the save file and found out it didnt exist. I wasn't playing the game in "Run As Admin" and anyways, I lost my 1.07 character lol. I put some hours into it, so was lame, 1.07 is SLOW for leveling without the PlayersX command no doubt. Out of frustration, I ended up loading up 1.09d instead because my stash has tons of sets/items to make life easy. But my heart kinda wants to go back to 1.07, though 1.07 doesnt have much to offer in the long run I know but if I was going to make a 1.07 farmer, I would be happy to have it be the druid. Its been a tough cookie! Some ideas would be welcomed for sure.

I am planning on making a small write up for my druid when I do pat him. Just not 100% committed to 1.09d for the Pat if there could be a stronger patch for summoning/shockwave/fireclaw werebears. Anyways, its been a pleasure being back. I am into herpetology now days (^_-) and find Diablo 2 refreshing from the new pretty.... pretty.. empty games. I own the Ps3 and bought Gran Turismo 6 recently... well if I ever felt ripped off with Diablo 3 and the content they left out.. then I must really feel ripped off with Gran Turismo 6 because its %25 the game they promised and charged me $60 bucks for it. Then they announced they making the next game for the PS4..We know what that means.. anyways.. (X_X) So I am all into retro gaming now (ps1/ps2), when games were actually good, complete.. lets see.. fun? had a plot? mentally engaging? haha man its so bad these days. I am positive the golden age of gaming is gone. Well whatever, I am sorry, straying from my topic! Have a nice day! (^_^)

Zero! OMG! You are back! *big hugs

Hope you are feeling all better now!
Hey there Goldtru! Thanks for the warm welcome back on to the forum. What have you been up to? Got any sweet badass characters made since I last saw you? I think you were doing a Paladin or Druid, I am not sure. Memory is incredibly foggy since I have been off all the pain killers! But yea, I am doing pretty good. Can't complain, lost alot of weight and have been pretty busy working and doing stuff around the house. I still find time for D2 late at night however and am having a lot of fun once again building up my Druid!

I was hoping more would help me decide which patch to play on but w/e I just decided to stick with 1.09d because I have some good swords that my Barbarian is willing to lend. So yea. I may retry a 1.07 druid, but I am really curious to know how the druids do in 1.12 and 1.13 also. Looks like I am the only one who cares Haha so will prolly have to find all this out on my own. Oh well. Gives me something to look forward to over the years... :D

Anyways, thanks again for the nice reply Goldtru. May your sword always be sharp and strike tru!

Druids fair fine in patch 1.10+ (but then mosty characters do with decent gear and some patience).

You will find levelling a lot faster though builds become more about maximising one main attack skill and a back up plus their synergies and some utility skills unlike in the earlier patches where you can max quite a few different options if you wanted making more diverse characters.

I find recent patches much easier than 1.07 in terms of levelling and item finding though can't comment on 1.09 as I haven't played that in many years.

Really it comes down to what patch you want to play and your motivation to find gear in 1.10+ if you haven't played them before.
