Druid build idea

Hi all...

I have an idea for a party friendly druid... the point being that he can't kill anything on his own but he makes it much easier for his buddies to kill.

I'm thinking:

20 Oak Sage
20 Spirit Wolves (5 tanks, yay!)
20 Dire Wolves (life bonus for the spirit wolves)
5-20 Raven (for the blind effect)
1 Poison Creeper (to stop monsters healing rather than for the damage it causes)
5 Hurricane + prereqs (for slow effect)

I don't expect him to be able to actually kill anything, but he should make life much easier for his teammates...

Would this build work? Does putting additional points in Raven increase either the chance to blind or the blind duration? Any more advice?

Frankly you could put 20 points in Oak Sage and waste the rest of the points on low-level elemental attacks and you'd be a welcome addition to any party. :D

The problem will probably be leveling up when you aren't in a party that can help you kill and gain experience. If you're going to be in a party the whole way through the game it'll work fine, but otherwise you might want to give up on the Ravens and get some points in a shapeshifting skill and an attack skill of some kind . . .

I agree with Durf on the lower level elemental skill. Fissue might be a very welcome addition. I've read that spirit wolves don't hold up really well as tanks, but this may not be completely accurate - I've never tried it myself.

if you want a party friendly character that can actually kill stuff, build an avenger :) the max conviction is loved and praised by almost all character classes, and vengeance ends up doing tons of elemental damage

Fissure+Firestorm is a good combination, if a little weak. However, playing him as a pure party druid, you ought to be all right.

The SWs are kinda flimsy, though...and put some into bear for boss battles...Grizzly tanks bosses a lot better than any of the wolves.

I would use Dire Wolves, unless you are partying with a necro who needs the corpses. I also agree with use of Fissure, as it is a great spell.

5 Spirit Wolves won't last ten seconds in Hell, believe me. Even Dire Wolves don't last long against boss packs there, although they DO do some decent damage so you might actually kill things after all! You could also use that skill distribution and add Angelic Ring + Ammy (AR) and carry a decent bow around--sort of a party-friendly Hunter druid.

Yup, spirit wolves wouldn't cut it.

If you want, just go with a typical hunter type build.

20 OS
20 Dire
20 Grizzly

That will give you a good tank for bosses as well as 3 medium ones for normal play though your party should have enough anyway.

Going with being party-friendly, shockwave is always welcome since it keeps the monsters in place. You'll need about lvl 10-16 for a decent duration.

Have you ever tried hurricane? IMHO it doesn't work as well as holyfreeze. I wouldn't waste any points getting it, on a pelt is another thing...

Since druid animal summons have the rare ability of getting the synergy bonuses from +skills, I highly recommend putting a point in grizzly.

With many +skills, I would imagine your build could kill with direwolves, but I would be much more inclined towards sunbearie's suggestion since then your summons would do good damage. With a might merc, awesome damage. With good gear and many trainers charms, godly damage. :D

Just my 2 cents.
