Drop trading

Hi.

I just need some info on how long i need to stay in my private room so that it wont dissapear when i switch characters. Iv'e seen 5 minutes somewhere but wanted to be sure, also how long will the room stay up once its been permed?

Ive done this before with some crap items and lost some for switching too fast i guess but ive got a mule trade set up and obviously dont want to lose the item!

Thanks

Edit - If i was to buy a 2nd cd key would it be possible to log both accounts in at the same time to do a proper trade?

Room ? Maybe you mean bnet game ?

Yes, a game won't disappear for up to 5 minutes while nobody is in if it's at least 5 minutes old, but before starting to mule, you should leave and re-enter it to check that is persists when it's empty.

Once I lost 1-2 Ists worth of items because I mistyped the password upon game creation without noticing it (I always use the same password), so I couldn't re-enter it later.

Your game is permed once you have been in it for five minutes and will stay up with no one in the game for the same five minutes.

If you don't like to sit around perming games (and who does), a game will remain up for one minute even with no one in it once it is made. This facilitates making very fast swaps among characters ... but if your computer goes down, then you'll have lost your items since it generally takes longer than a minute to reboot.

A second CD key will permit you to have two characters (from different accounts) logged on at the same time, but you'll need two computers to do this. Naturally, this is the safest way to go since if one comp goes down, the other can pick up the items. Moreover, you can keep one character in a permanent "mule game" to transfer items whenever you feel like.

It is necessary to perm games. They generally will not stay open if you leave right after making the game.

With two keys, you can have any two characters logged on at the same time; they do not have to be on different accounts. But you can't have the same account sitting in the main area with the chat room and game list twice. Also, you do not need two computers to have two installations logged onto bnet (search the forums for fast user switching and you should find a guide)*.

I think the biggest problems with self muling are realm-down and temp bans. Having two computers helps with neither. I've never had my computer crash or lockup while muling, but I guess that may be a big problem for some.

*This is only necessary for windows. It is easier with OSX.

Also don't forget even after you wait 5 minutes to perm the game try not to switch chars too fast, wait 30 seconds if not a good minute before switching again, you can get temp banned for being to impatient, this screwed me over several times before I finally learned...:)
