Double Upgraded Magefists (Crusader Gauntlets)

I just rolled a pair of +30%, and got 98 defense. Are these perfect?

Never mind, just checked the AS, and realized that I forgot about the +10 def on mages. 99 is a perfect defense roll, but I am happy with 98.

Arreat Summit Cube

1 Tal Rune + 1 Shael Rune + 1 Perfect Diamond + Normal Unique Armor = Exceptional Version of Armor
This formula changes the base item type from the normal to exceptional version. For example Quilted Armor is turned into Ghost Armor. This does NOT convert the item to the Exceptional Unique version of the Unique Item. So you cannot for example use this formula to transform Greyform into The Spirit Shroud. Unique item bonuses remain the same; only the item it's based on is upgraded. This can be used to upgrade Ethereal Items also. They will continue to be Ethereal after they are upgraded. Also if the item is socketed, then jewels or runes and their mods will also remain. Armor refers to any sort of armor, including helms, boots, belts, gloves and shields, not just body armor.
1 Ko Rune + 1 Lem Rune + 1 Perfect Diamond + Exceptional Unique Armor = Elite Version of Armor (Single Player, Ladder Only)
This formula changes the base item type from the exceptional to elite version. For example Ghost Armor is turned into a Dusk Shroud. This does NOT convert the item to the Elite Unique version of the Unique Item. Unique item bonuses remain the same; only the item it's based on is upgraded. This can be used to upgrade Ethereal Items also. They will continue to be Ethereal after they are upgraded. You cannot do this formula unless you are using a Ladder Character. Also if the item is socketed, then jewels or runes and their mods will also remain. Armor refers to any sort of armor, including helms, boots, belts, gloves and shields, not just body armor
Two upgrades from Light Gauntlets to Battle Gauntlets, and from Battle Gauntlets to Crusader Gauntlets. Armor has a variable defense, based on the item, and the game "rolls" [the dice] and chooses a random defense for the item.

Upgrading from the Battle Gauntlets to Crusader Gauntlets is an option only available to Ladder and Single Player characters, so with the reset upon us, those new gloves are fairly valuable.

In other news, I traded for a Lo rune to make Fort in my self-found 14% Sup. Archon and rolled 1.5 LPL and 29 res.:cloud9::cloud9::cloud9::cloud9:

To upgrade an armor (body/helm/belt/shield/boots/gloves) from normal base type to exceptional (nightmare equivalent) transmute the item + tal rune + shael rune + perfect diamond in the cube. Then to go from exceptional to elite (hell version of item) cube the exceptional version with ko rune + lem rune + perfect diamond. That's all there is to it.

Luckily you double posted within the minute to tell us that, and didn't edit your first post.

1 defence doesn't really matter to me, unless you're going for trading value or you're one of those hardcore duelers who're obsessed with perfection in their gear. I found an Arachnid's that was a couple % off from perfect, and it was 1 defence away from the 138 perfection.
At that point, I really don't think it matters all too much.

Does upgrading Magefist gauntlets twice add anything but more defense?

It also increases durability and Str and level requirements.

But since the item is a caster piece it's pretty pointless and a waste of runes to upgrade them. Purely for style points and bragging rights.

Well, with the high str requirments for the Spirit Monarch I might just aswell do it, I got the str and levels anyway and the runes for it are more or less junk.

Hmm...

Does this affect Item-level? If I upgrade a Kite Shield to a Monarch, and take it to Larzuk, how many sockets will it get?

You can only upgrade rare and unique items.

Although the point has been made, these are caster items. You shouldn't be getting beat on physically, much, because then you're not casting, and probably dying. I'm not here to dissuade you, but wouldn't you rather save the runes for trading, or upgrading another piece of gear? There are some weapons and armor that would be godly when upgraded, why magefists?

The only normal item I would consider upping is lenymo/nightsmoke and even then its outclassed by glooms trap for caster gear, and only then because it would be something cheap I could do on a starter character. I say upping anything that isn't exceptional, especially double upgrading, is a bit of a waste.

Well, it all depends on how wealthy you are. All you need to double upgrade Magefists is Tal, Shael, Ko, Lem and 2 PDiamonds. It's not that expensive in my mind.

But like said, it's all about bragging rights.:smug:

Hammerdins use magefists. Hammerdins like defense. Upping them is

Minor thread necro, but w/e. It was the end of Ladder season and if I didn't do it then, I would never be able to do it. I had the runes, and it was a perfect 30% ed (I had two pairs, both self-found; I would not have bothered with non-perfect ones) and I got lucky. Also, I generally do upgrade mages to exceptional just for the added bit of defense because I have enough strength on my sorcs using Spirit monarchs. And even though it is for casters, my PVM chars somehow always tele into the middle of crowds and get hit.

Another popular normal->exceptional upgrade is Goldwrap for the fourth row of pots.
