I've heard time and again that the fire golem helps to draw aggro, but that seems like it means two things:
    - Aggros monsters from far away to come to you (good for herding mobs)
    - Holds priority over you, your merc, or summons

I'm curious about the second part - is it actually true? I'm not good at testing this kind of thing.

I've never heard of this. It might attract monsters because it wanders on a leash a certain distance from you.

Looks like the Fire Golem has the Holy Fire aura. So it hits monsters in an area around the golem thus drawing them towards it. Never tried it myself though.

It's been a while since I read up on this, but from what I remember, no, that wouldn't be true. But in some cases, you could make it work out that way. The golem's aura will draw aggro from monsters. If the golem is between you and the monsters, most of them will continue to attack it.
