Dodge, Avoid & Evade Math

Hey guys,

Everyone always told me that 12 base points are the best in Dodge, Avoid, and Evade (DAE) and I was out to see why.

I busted out Excel and did some simple calc to figure out the most efficient marginal point. Although close to 12, it wasn't right on. My analysis shows that level 11 is in fact the best and I wanted a few others to peek over my math.

Sorry, not much is labled and it's a bit confusing if you don't know what the eff I did.

According to your graph it looks like you're right. But I think we all would want to see your math before we make final judgements. Unless someone else has already done this.

So, just like in school... "show me your work!" :D

12 Base pts means putting 12 hard points? Correct?

Yes.

The work is all in the table above the graph... simple math! (i could use calc, but this is simpler... it's hard to come up with an equation for those two curves)

Dodge & Evade Work.
Distance between 60 (max effective points) and skill level in question (in this case, 11) is 60-11=49. the 49 is listed directly above the bolded 11. then, this value is multiplied by the actual effectivness of the skill. (49% chance.) We all know that a square is bigger than any of its total sides in any other combo, ie 8x8 > 7x9 eventhough 8+8 = 7+9. Thus, our 49*49 value is the highest.

Avoid Work. (he he he)
We do the same equation, but for different reasons, the same point is true for the second curve. (math is the same.)

Conclusion.
IMO, assuming that my math is correct, 11 base points (hard points of actual leveling and clicking) plus whatever bonuses tag on to this from items, charms, bo, etc..., is IDEAL. Of course, many (including myself) will go beyond the 11 once all other skills have been placed.

how can you say a point is better spent in a skill than another when you dont know how many points are available or how many +skills?

i don't see how you can figure out all three at the same time, as d/a/e are for 3 completely different situations: standing vs melee, running vs missile/melee, and standing vs missile.

while it is possible to be standing vs melee and missile, you can't stand and run at the same time.

also, points in decoy and valk give 100% defense from missile and melee, standing or running, making this rather moot (although i do like avoid.)

i didn't see the spreadsheet (i need to reinstall office) but i assume all you did was stack them, which won't work.

Valid points. All of them. but i'm not looking at in-game effectivness. (I usually don't bother with points into "standing vs missile" since slow missiles is so effective if used properly... 1 point in slow missle >>>> 11 pts into e if you ask me, but that's not what I analyzed.

In several occasions, i've been recommended to place 12 points into the 3 skills for their maximum effectiveness in their own unique circumstances. It was this number that I challenged. I in no way intended to challenge anyone's playing style and tell them that my way is better, since even I don't use all 3 of them, and they're never the same slvl anyways! I was just looking at the math behind the scenes, that's all!
