lol, nice topic too, but hey it's good enough for me to make a post...maybe that's not saying much about me...
my urine usually smells really bad....so i always flush.... and it makes the females mad anyways (along with not putting down the toilet seat since they have to sit always), and when females are mad...less chance they let u in bed with them
as to my "# 2's" that's far to gross to discuss publicly. let's jsut say, i got a full heavy duty yelow radiation-biologic agent suit for when i have to do a "# 2".

btw (by the way),
phosphurous was discovered from within urine. without urine, we might not have known about the element phosphorous for a longer bit of time.

i'm not a urine expert (thank goodness), but when water is a dark yelow or even brown, it's usually because of "hard" minerals or ...fertilizer chemicals....
(i went to a high school surrounded by farms....thank goodness i never drank out of the facets, because one day some otehr person went to take a drink outa the facet-sink and it was DARK BROWN, luckily his mouth wasn't near the facet-water and saw the DARK BROWN "water" coming out, well in time to not drink it)
not sure if this is what determines the color of urine though.

I flush it all down. Wish my toilet had half flush and full flush options like some European and Asian ones do, though.

i'm glad i'm american....i don't like the idea of something (even if it is just water..) shooting up my "rear end".
if i had such a toilet...i'd go outside and go to the "bathroom" the old fashion way.

It's an interesting question...Ideally, we should all be drinknig enough water such that our urine is pale or clear. If it is dark or yellow, your kidneys are overworked and are not getting enough water.
I'm still not sure if even clear urine all the time would merit just leaving it sit there.
But don't worry, restaurants' dishwashers are wasting more water in one day that your toilet uses in 3 months, probably.

we are trying to save costs
giving up the clean water we have to pollution or conversion into salt water just raises the cost of using them again through cleaning...
and our natural cleaning system, the water-cloud-rain system regenerates clean water at a rate that is lower than our waste-rate in many places... (heck, i live in one, china!, more prominently beijing, where the drinkable lakes are running dry and the canals are starting to stink)
we are trying to save costs

As for fresh water we can just purify sea water and use that. Many countries do that.
I'm paying for the cost myself and what I get in return is the right to turn on the water faucet in my kitchen in the morning then go to the bathroom and return to my kitchen for some ice cold water

that's what i meant:

fine, maybe that applies to Wien or New Orleans or whichever developed country (i know new orleans is a state, insert "US" and "austria" if you must)
i myself am well aware of the global water problems that industrialization and wasteful behaviour creates in other countries (parts of Asia (very near to me, i might add), parts of africa...)
