Do monsters in hell mode drop good items better if the game is full?

Do monsters in hell mode drop good items better if the game is full?

So I was wondering if the monsters in hell mode drop items like shako, Um rune, windforce, etc better if the room has more people? Or is it the same if i'm in the room MFing by myself?
I was thinking to go into full games and MF the sewers and everything.

More players in the game reduces the chance of a "no drop." So yes, you'll have a better chance of getting items, but only because more drops are happening (i.e. it doesn't lean in favor of any specific drop more than usual). However, you also have to worry about keeping up your kill speed in multiplayer games, and if somebody else is going to snatch up all the items before you can.

One side note: For the countess, it's best to run her in 1 player games. Due to how her special rune drop works, it actually goes down as the players go up.

Thanks for the information!
And I never knew about the countess MF rune thing :p

Not sure if you know this, but MF doesn't do anything to rune drops.

Few exceptions:
Countess will drop el through ist more with less players (mf has no impact) but Gul through Lo more with more players. (Chances of Gul-Lo are only a very small fraction of ist, however, so not worth it).

Superuniques except those baal summons (which drop like if they're champions) always drop 2 items and 4 potions, more or less players have no impact, only MF and monster level.

Random uniques always drop one item and 4 potions, more or less players have no impact, only MF and monster level.

Griswold and The Smith drop base items in NM as if they were in hell, but have too low monster level to drop the higher level uniques. Sets, however, are a different story. These two bosses are the only ones I know of that can drop white items; you may even get your eth superior Colossos Voulge from one of them (!). Griswold IIRC is incorrectly robbed of his +3 monster level in ATMA, so he's mlvl 87 in hell, and thus can drop Arachnid's Mesh. Bosses like these, the smith, summoner, etc, DO have a nodrop possibility, so the more players, the more they drop.

Champions always drop two potions, and one item/gold pile. Only monster level and MF/GF count.

Act bosses also have a nodrop, but due to the 6 items per drop hard cap, they max out their drop at 5 or even 3 players (unpartied).

In 1.09 (and possibly later/earlier patches) act bosses seemed to be able to drop more than 6 items, but it was discovered that for some reason their gold drop created several piles. I don't know if the reason was ever uncovered.

Probably too much info, but you only need to bother about the parts that you find interesting and/or useful ;)

EDIT: Oh, and sometimes the game tries to drop items on unpassable terrain (like space in arcane sanctuary). In that case, the items are lost. I do not know if a unique is flagged as "dropped" in that game if it is attempted to drop over unpassable terrain, but someone with modding skills could easily test this.

Fangskin in hell drops nothing, due to a bug introduced in 1.11. My little conspiracy theory is that someone wanted to nerf pindleskin runs, but got the names mixed up.

Thanks for all the info! It helped :p once again.
So, if what I am reading correctly it is better to MF alone because its the same with a room with 8 people and plus the monsters will be weaker. (But more 'items' drop when there are more people in room. Quantity AND quality with 8 ppl, but just quality when alone would be the way to say it)

It's always a good thing to have a few threads where everything about an issue is in one posting, even if it's more info than asked for ;)

Fangskin has no treasure class at all which is why he can't drop.

He has one, but it's empty.

To be precise, Fangskin's record contains a link to a nonexisting TC with the name "Fangskin (H)", see the error message from ATMA's drop calculator. Whatever, the result is that Fangskin doesn't drop anything in hell mode since 1.11.

I can confirm this still happens.

In recent weeks I've noticed a few Baal drops with 7 items, and although I noticed that he always seemed to drop some gold when it happened, I never understood what caused it. Now I do; thanks.

Re: Do monsters in hell mode drop good items better if the game is full?

Baal has an additional drop when being killed for the quest and if the regular drop consists of 6 items, it will be 7 in total. It's always a pile of gold. I'm also rather sure that Andy's quest drop can have more than 6 items as well. A couple of gems are added in that case. Another example is the cow king who drops a bunch of stamina bottles (milk bottles, a gift from his favourite concubines, I guess... I don't want to hear anything else) when you killed him for the quest, a sign that you just lost the ability to open cow portals :whistling:

Quest drops are not to be confused with the first kill drop of act bosses, although both can occur at the same time.

I've already killed Baal a few hundred times with this sorc, so I don't think it was a quest drop. ;)

Well, I killed Baal a couple of hundreds of times with zealots and I cannot remember that he ever dropped 7 items, except when doing the quest. But perhaps he likes girls :smug:

Time for a few Baal runs then, I guess :D

Re: Do monsters in hell mode drop good items better if the game is full?

i'm not sure if in LOD anything is same or different, but in classic:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
more players in game means more drops from monsters (or less chance of no drop. which ever it is, u get more drops), more exp from monsters, tougher monsters, and possibly more monsters and more special monsters (non-white named monsters; champions and uniques monsters) though can't confirm this last bit to be true or not.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
the diffuculty level definately effects the number of special mosnters (champs and uniques monsters). in norm there mihgt be only 1 special cow besides king in cow area. in hell there might be like 5 special cows beside king in cow area. or take blood moor or whatever area. hell difficulty spawns more special monsters than norm difficulty.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
1-2 players have the same number of drops (u'd get more exp from mosnters with 2 players, but u won't get more drops than if u only had 1 player). 3-4 players give more drops than 1-2 players but 3 and 4 players give same number of drops. 5-6 again..same thing... 7-8 yet again same thing.

So if u just want drops (mf'ing) than do a 7 player game. if u want exp (experience) do an 8 player game. if u want to just rush do a 1 player (solo) game or 2 player (some one is helping u rush) game.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
in classic, hell diablo has a bug with having an 8 player party and the exp he gives. when u have a party of 8 he won't give the amount of exp that he should give. so one person must unparty (before diablo dies) when u have a full 8 player game and are killing diablo.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
the item type and its mods are determined by the area level and/or monster level (mlvl). (for classic, the closer u are to the last area of the game (hell cs) the higher the item types and the higher the mods on them u can get).

for example, in classic, only hell diablo can drop amulets with the +2 skills mod on them.

for another example, in classic, only hell council (both trav and doh3-meph area), act 4, and probably hell cows (since they have same mlvl as hell cs) can spawn the kings mod on dropped items for a chance at classic's godly 162-200% EDam modded rare weapons.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
item quality is determined by your mf (magic find) amount (in LOD, i beleive, if u kill only your char mf is used, but if your merc kills its the sum of the merc's mf and your char mf). also act bosses (and other superuniques), champs, and uniques have higher chance of dropping better quality items, item types, and mods due to their higher mlvls (not always higher mlvl for act bosses, in classic anyways).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
also take note that there's two types of drops. a normal drop and a quest drop. the quest drop gives better drops. (see glitching on how to be able to repeatedly get quest drops over and over).
------------------------------------------------------------------------
in classic, for gambling, both the item types and mods are based ONLY on your clvl.

for example (in classic) at clvl 86 and up u can gamble amulets that have the +2 skills mods. as u get closer to clvl 99 u have a better chance of getting the +2 skills mods on gambled amulets. but clvl 85 and below u can NOT get +2 skills mods on gambled amulets.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
in classic, for shops, the difficulty and the act town makes a difference in what item types they have, but the mods on them are determined by your clvl only (i think). look at shops in norm act 1 when you are clvl 1 and than when you are clvl 80 and see for yourself the difference in the mods on the items in the shops of norm act 1. (i think...this is correct..too lazy to confirm...if not my bad and apologies)
