Do I suck?

I'm not really a newcomer, I just suck. By suck I don't mean low level characters, I just mean that I never get any really good items, the best item i've ever had was a Grandfather and that was GIVEN to me. I've been playing for a really long time, and have restarted multiple times. I'm just wondering what I should do first this time. Shall I create an MFer first? Thats what I should think. Help is welcome.

If your enjoyment of the game will be increased by finding items, then by all means build an MF character. Skellimancers and Sorcs can handle themselves without a lot of expensive equipment, so I would start there. I like Paladins best, but I never have made one that could hold much MF.

Don't expect great items to drop from the sky because you've got 60% MF on your character - it'll take time, patience, and more MF than that. I've got an MF sorc on USEast ladder that is the 8th character I've built - the others, to one extent or another, have served to provide what I needed to build a Sorc with high MF. Now she is a decent MFer, and provides items to help all the others.

I don´t do any kind of "runs", or mule between characters. I have seen very few elite uniques (in the game, not in RL! ), no character of mine has owned more than one piece at a time of the class-specific sets, the most "advanced" runeword I´ve ever made is 'Passion', etc...But I don´t think I "suck" because of that.

What exactly is "a really good item"? I think the Full Rejuvenation Potion is the best item in the game, nothing comes even close to that. TP scrolls are second. If a fledgling character of mine finds some high-end Coral gloves of Fortune for sale in act 2 normal, I´ll do the happy dance of joy. At that stage, it´s a great item.

Most decent character builds can make good progress in Hell with a bunch of so-so items, as long as they are properly matched and you have a good game plan.


I don´t know what you mean with "restarting". Care to explain?

Sigs are only for people that have donated (or had others do it for you, ).

If it makes you feel an better, i've never had a grandfather or any good rune word. I just enjoyed the game and did the best with what i had.

Anyway, as Nolomite has pointed out, you need a lot of patience and perserverance if you want to find the rare and valuable items of this game. I personally get most of my good stuff through trading for gems or runes.

i managed to get a good start when i just started to go into my first trade game so i could try to get some better equipment.
I managed to get an aldur armor for 9 chip gems which ended up getting traded for other stuff, then this kept going on...
now i'm holding stuff that i dont even know why i trade for them

I wouldn't sweat it too much. The single most important thing about D2; have fun playing. As bad as you might think you are at D2, I am probably worse at Starcraft or Warcraft, but I still enjoy playing those games.

If you are having trouble finding the items you are looking for, then try collecting gems/low end runes and upgrading them in the cube. It is not hard to obtain all but the most valuable items in this game with a few perf gems or ral runes.
