Do a LightningTrapper really need Shadow Disciplines?

Just like the topic says: Do a LightningTrapper really need Shadow Disciplines?
Since the traps alone deal so much damage, I see no reason for a Shadow Clone if I have a good merc, and no need for a attack/movementspeed aura, since I'm a caster. The only thing I can see a good use for is Fade, since it raises resistances.
What do you think?
Also, should I use 2 Bartoc, or one and use a shield (for the blockrate and resistances) ?

Yes. Yes they do.

Shadow is a tank. Shadow is a minion stack. Shadow is a Mind Blaster. Without Shadow you lose a lot of ability. Burst of Speed is semi-useful, since when you don't need DR or resists (hdins/bone necs) you can Burst for mobility. Fade is an incredible move, one of the best in the game. Mind Blast is like... the reason people make Assassins, and Weapon Block gives you a way to defend yourself without a shield.

.... K?

They are all 1 point wonders, accept for maybe shadow master.

I do believe the game could be completed without these skills quite easily, however, for the small cost that they are, the benefits are huge.

Key skills for crowd control (especially for stair traps): Mind Blast, and Cloak of Shadows. Both 1 point wonders.

Since Trappers are basically focused on +skills as their #1 most sought-after mod, those one-point wonders really mean a lot. With a one point investment in SM or MB, all of a sudden you've got 8+ in them. It really means a lot. If you're not utilizing your CoS, Fade (or) BoS, and MB while slaying - you're not getting the most from your Trapper.

I never used them on my Trapper, except for Cloak of Shadows when facing Gloams. I got Fade from my switch setup, so the only points I put in there was 1 in each of Claw Mastery, Phsycic Hammer, Cloak of Shadows and Weapon Block. That's all you need IMO.

Bartuc's aren't really all that great for a light trapper as most of the mods aren't needed for the build. Light trappers shouldn't be in melee, so the ED, Dmg, FHR (although more FHR can never hurt), AR, and LL are all unnecessary. And you probably don't have any points invested into the MA tree, so that +skill is also wasted. So basically, they're +20 str/dex and +2 skills. That's not awful (especially if you use the +40 dual stats to pump vit), but you'd be much better off with a pair of +3trap (ideally with +3LS/+3DS) claws and a pair of +3 shadow disp. claws on switch.
