    Diablo 3 technically finished?

I saw a thread at the bnet forums, found here, that links this article. It's in French, so I can't translate it, but the gist of what theyre saying at the forums is that Bliz is done with the game and is in internal testing. Here's a translated quote that the_architect translated

    Pretty big news eh?

This seems legit but it's difficult to discern what it means in a practical way. Their iteration and polishing phase might take a year or more. There's no way to know until they tell us for certain.

Great news, indeed. But, as oldMan pointed out, polishing can be time consuming especially for Blizzard. It's nice to hear them (Mike Morhaime or Frank Pearce - not sure which one they're quoting) say it has a "good chance" to release before the end of 2011.

If June or July passes and we don't see beta, kiss a 2011 release goodbye

good news is good, conference call in may hopefully announce the beta, and everything will be okay this year!

This makes sense, based on Bashiok's deleted statement following the poem. From what I recall, March was to be the beginning of the friends/family beta. This bit of info seems right on the dot.

My biggest fear now is Battle.net 2.0 integration. This was the big hitch that stalled SC2 - let's hope we bypass it this time with Diablo 3.

T-this may be it then.. any screenshot released from that statement onwards is the finished product, meaning no more "it's still alpha, they will change graphics". h-he he HE HE

    Re: Diablo 3 technically finished?

Bashiok made a post about it in the official forums and deleted it seconds after. I don't have the screenshot - the post was mentioned elsewhere in the forums. I'd have to dig around for it in the other Male Demon Hunter reveal threads...

I don't know why I'm replying to you or why you're not banned yet, but even now any screenshots they release publicly could be from an earlier stage of development. So no.

    Re: Diablo 3 technically finished?

Huh. The only thing I recall him deleting was a post saying "am disappoint" or something like that.

And to that other guy, ever heard of polishing? Release screenshots will reflect the final product.

Which is why they don't just release every screenshot they have. Doesn't change the fact that a screenshot could have been taken in an earlier stage of development.

...right. Which is why I said release screenshots. Screenshots taken of the released product.

    Re: Diablo 3 technically finished?

Nice and all, but his original statement was about the assertion that all screenshots from right now on forwards are all "released screenshots", as you are describing them.

It's entirely possible they aren't, and nothing in the quote gives indication that they will be. Moreover, there's no reason to believe that "development is technically finished" means the game is releasable right now. It means they have their direction, the programmers have their scripts and parameters, the artists have their designs, and the simulators can crunch the skill numbers. It sounds daunting, but this is a simultaneous production.

I never said nor alluded to any of this, even remotely, but sure.
Then again, I'm not quite sure just who or what you are replying to.

    Re: Diablo 3 technically finished?

Your "other guy" seemed ambiguous, and I assume Septar thought you meant him.

A majority of my post was at the OP (who used the "developing done") part I specified. He was the one making the assertion I mentioned, and was my target.

    Re: Diablo 3 technically finished?

oh **** I read your post wrong, it was worded strangely so I couldn't figure out what you were saying, I thought you just made a typo and typed release instead of released.

    Re: Diablo 3 technically finished?

I was talking about DetarrevoSiDrazilb (Re: ObviousTroll, or LlortSuoivbo), which I should have mentioned. I'm trying to keep these brief because I'm also finishing a project.

I didn't think it was worded very strangely. :(
Release screenshots. I've read that phrase quite a few times.

    Re: Diablo 3 technically finished?

Well, perhaps if "release screenshots" was hyphenated.

Ditto on project. Well, accounting homework in my case. >> Almost done.

    Re: Diablo 3 technically finished?

With SC2 it was a bit more difficult because they specificaly developed Bnet 2 for SC2, and both were in beta. So taking in account their experiences with that, I'd say it will be a tad bit easier now, although I reserve my right to be wrong.
