Diablo 3 Modability

Re: Diablo 3 Modability

I doubt it, especially without LAN mode, many mods wont see the light of the day if they are presented as MP mods (like Hell unleashed mod for D2) but I am quite sure someone will figure out how to properly mod the game but dont expect MP mods.

Is D3 going to be mod friendly? Modability makes any game better in my opinion.
Depends on what you mean by modability.

if you mean UI mods then I think it is possible as that was huge in WoW.

If you mean user recreations of the game, then I think it would be less likely because of the the way the game is likely to be set up and the restrictions of battle.net and a focus of balance / fairness.

A campaign editor / map editor would be kind of cool if there is something like Open Bnet but in general I doubt it would be implemented.

I wasn't thinking about multiplayer mods. I wouldn't expect battle.net to support anything third party.

I just think it would be nice for blizzard to include a folder where you can put overide files inside, kind of how ES:IV Oblivion does. A clear structure to alter the way the game works for offline/LAN/TCP-IP use with others sporting an identical set of modifications.

No Kiroptus, he means that the folder structure should be divided with single player only in mind so you don't alter the b-net files. Hate to sound like a goat here but ney, can't see this happening, I'm a fan of it myself as I too spent ages modding my own doom3/quake4 .pak files to make weapons behave the way I wanted. However that said someone will find a way, they always do except it'll probably still be very messy. I hate the way diablo2 is modded, wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole-got better things to do.

edit: although they did say that there would be scripted parts in the game. Maybe this could be indicative of .script like files? This could work.

They said no mods. I believe they were thinking of ui mods and the like. Hopefully a mod like median might work since it'll be played only on sp and open. But I don't think they'll let anything be used on closed.

Mods are kinda useless in a game where multiplaying will be great and where the mods don't work then :)

You know this game from a couple of years back? I think it was Diablo II. It had a great multiplayer, yet there's plenty mods.

And how many of these mods have you played online? Blizzard can keep all the control they want, but they should allow through an approval process some addon functionality. If they would have allowed user created maps and Acts to D2, think about how much more interesting D2 would be? How many more players would not have gotten as bored and simply quit? Frankly it is in our interest for Blizzard to support some level of modification or addon functions, why people don't *#&@ at Blizzard for this is beyond me. Near as I can figure many just do not realise how doing so can greatly increase the life of a game.

Well, they might be somewhat useful for like 1% of player base, I don't think that bilizzard counts that useful addition for the game when counting the costs to develop the tools for it.

After playing D2 (and in the future D3) multiplayer for some time It is really hard to get out of there and try playing some single player.. even if it is a mod, I'd just rather play some other game than mess with a mod that raped the good original game.
