Diablo 3 Legendary "Clang of Disappointment"

[caption id="attachment_380650" align="alignright" width="251"][IMG] Trial Key clang, but no beam.[/caption]A couple of weeks ago Travis Day barnstormed a forum thread to agree that the full legendary beam showing for every Realm of Trials key drop was excessive, and said he would remove the "Beam of Disappointment" from Rift Key drops in a future patch. The patch hit earlier this week which means the future is now, and indeed, the beam is gone from Keys when dropped by Rift Guardians.

Unfortunately, the sound effect remains, which everyone in our clan chat immediately began referring to as the, "clang of disappointment." The star still shows on the map also, but I don't think anyone minds that. The clang though... removing the beam and not the clang sound is almost worse, since I'd learned to ignore the sight, but the sound still makes me twitch like one of Pavlov's dogs.

Does everyone agree that the Diablo 3 Legendary "Clang of Disappointment" needs to be removed from Trial Keys? Or would you like the beam to come back as well, just so you'd see something shining and clanging even when no legendary or set items came up on that spin of the slot machine wheel?

If trial keys dropped from random mobs and chests I could see being annoyed by this, but I kinda expect it to come out with a rift boss so it's never bothered me.

I agree. I always expect it to be there anyway, so unless I hear the clang twice, I don't get my hopes up anyway.

heh, if anything it's actually the star that bothers me. it always appears first, before the legendary even hits the ground so i always look at the map after killing elite/RG.

It should be sightless (beam or map beacon), and soundless. Like a forgotten soul. This kinda reeks of passive aggression on the devs' part.

While I am not playing actively anymore, I have to say "beam of disappointment" and "clang of disappointment" sound just too funny to remove from the game, in my opinion anyway. I have to agree with crazyziggy tho, I was always annoyed by the icon on the map more than anything. The beam at least looked cool, when you got 2 other legs and had beams all around - it added to that.

Same with me, I always see the star before I see a legendary... Kills the excitement imo..

    This is the ultimate first-world-Diablo-problem.

A clang is a clang. A keystone turns into a riftstone which guarantees you at least one legendary and maybe more, depending on how far you push the Grift.

    qq'ers gon' qq.

No beam is a step in the right direction, but I agree with Greg, it should be like a key, no beam, no star, no sound.

Yep, same here. I think I've seen one legendary item from Rift bosses since the patch. It most definitely got nerfed.

I don't know what level your pushing, but I've had numerous up to GR 30 that haven't dropped any unique.

RT: @fallsviewafro: This is the ultimate first-world-Diablo-problem. ... qq'ers gon' qq.

Total truth! Just a matter of QQ for QQ's sake. Is this really an issue? A more valid complaint would be rifts or realm of trials still being janky. Or the class balance being way out of proportion, especially for melee characters at dead last. But no, we have "lasers and clang is teh much strife, QQ"

frankly, most legendary items are disappointing after a while.

too much of a "first world problem" post if you ask me. not playing with sound on after 2 years anyway. the real annoyance (beam) is gone. rest would be just icing on the cake.

Go BIG or go home! Me like pretty lights! Every item should have one. Like Quake 3 with cg_railTrailTime cranked up; that's how I roll!

But seriously, folks....let's not half-ass it.

Off the subject, I'm still highly annoyed by the laziness of the green asterisk.
